I keep my social media as locked as possible, private, no followers I do not know on real life and I don't fill in the about information on my Facebook. I have personal reasons for this though so have always been a bit more aware. It's actually crazy how much you can find out about people through social media.

I'm exactly the same. My Bluetooth and phone location trackers are always off, I have fake identity on my local Facebook community group and you can't friend request my personal Facebook profile. I've also never shared images of my kids online.

My worry about turning all location off though is that if I went missing, nobody would know where I was

The point at which laughing emojis are being used for any reason on a thread about a missing woman is the point at which to stop reading it.

Id go as far as to say its the point at which the thread needs to end. Well that and the abuse from another poster.

DesertRose64 · 08/02/2023 23:57

People are being respectful

Not everyone is.

madeyemoody · 09/02/2023 00:07

@Activelyannoyed the phone was found on the floor and placed on the bench. So in your own aggressive words "FFS"

I just don’t understand where she is! Every day after work I type her name into Google hoping articles will come up saying that she’s been found.

At this point I genuinely do hope that she’s willingly disappeared. Or she’s just wanted to take a break from life or something because that’s the only thing that makes sense to me.

I can’t even imagine how her family must feel. How do you just vanish without a trace?! This is crazy

Not read all the threads. But has No one considered that her dog, a Springer Spaniel I believe, one of the most intelligent of dogs in UK and a water loving dog would have leapt into the river after her had she gone in? He wasn't tied up at the time she disappeared. Just a thought.

Our springers wouldn't jump in after us without a LOT of encouragement. They tend to only jump in after sticks or tennis balls. They would just wait on the bank indefinitely.

JaneJeffer · 09/02/2023 00:21

@DesertRose64 the laughing emoji was from someone local to the area who is tired of the whole situation 🤷

lemmein · 09/02/2023 00:29

I was watching the Libby Squires doc on NowTv earlier and was really struck by how much work was going on behind the scenes, yet to the public it looked like nothing was happening. The police were getting royally roasted on social media at the time, yet they got their man by painstakingly piecing together a shit load of grainy cctv film, all out of the public glare.

Same with the 4 students murdered in Idaho.

I do think the police seemed too quick to suggest there was no third party involved with NB and if she was a family member of mine I think I'd be massively frustrated by their 'hypothesis' - but then, sometimes you've just got to trust the process and have faith that they know what they're doing...hopefully!

I find it hard to believe she decided to disappear willingly in the face of all the media attention and police and volunteers spending hours looking for her!

She could have easily called the police, said she was ok but didn't want to be found, and to stop searching. Police would have honoured that.

I think it’s more likely that the poster is over invested in the thread and they’d cope better with being local to the area if they had more balance in their current day to day life.

oakleaffy · 09/02/2023 01:19

Re police NOT being on the ball, There were Three young men who were found dead in the same London graveyard a few years back.
Supposedly drug overdosed.
Another found very close outside the murderer’s flat.

One of the victim’s friends did some sleuthing and thought Strange that so many young men died in same area- Raised concerns.

He though that the Met didn’t care, as it was just young “Druggy” lads dying.

When in fact they had been killed.

Met failings probably a factor in death of Stephen Port victims, says inquest
Jury found that serial killer could have been caught earlier if met had not missed opportunities

These young men were murdered by Port using a GHB.

I've been swearing since the start mate. It's fucking exasperating. You can clearly see that this is thread 5 when you click on and instead of thinking 🤔 that's 4000 comments previous, posters actually type, "a springer would follow though, I wonder, has anyone thought of that?"

Fucking ridiculous 🤣 I'm local, it's obviously getting to me by now. Sorry for hurting any sensitive souls with a few fucks.

Being ‘local’ doesn’t give you a pass to be a twat to everyone. There are mods to monitor threads etc.

@cilary where are these mods? They have let this circus carry on for 5 threads. Speculation, spreading rumours and slating family members. Not to mention the most brain dead "what ifs". It's disgusting. Turned a families pain into a Mumsnet soap opera for entertainment. "Decoy Nicola entered house through back door so she wouldn't be caught in CCTV, escaping to Tenerife with all her insurance money" I mean WTF???

clairelip · 09/02/2023 02:55

Without proof she went into the water how can her family ever come to terms with this. Local to me we had a small boy fall into a tidal river some years ago. He was never found but at least they knew he went in( brother saw him fall) huge search but he was never found. For years when I walked on our lovely local beaches I'd say a prayer for him to be found so the family could have closure. his name was Cameron and he fell in the river in Carmarthen. I've never forgotten him

DesertRose64 · 09/02/2023 03:01

@clairelip I remember that.

its about 8 years ago I think.

What a heartache for the family.

Crumpetdisappointment · 09/02/2023 03:22

in the local paper linked a couple said their son fell in the same water 45 years ago, found 2 months later, in the sea.

That was before the weir was built.

Sorry to go back over the facts but please can I ask:

Was the phone found on the floor or the bench?

Would we truly expect there to be visible indications at the point of entry to the water?

Do we think there is any connection to the other missing people previously mentioned within a 40 mile radius? (Particularly the man who left his hat headphones and mobile phone near a canal)

Can anyone explain in very basic terms, if NB ended up in the water, what route / how far she would or could have travelled along the river?

Holding the family and NB in my thoughts for some answers soon. Hoping for the best outcome.

my friend who works with rivers, marine life etc. says they have to and can work out the tide that day, current speed, river, weather blah blah and see usually where something would travel and where it would end up within any given time limit .they are watching a particular bit of land or water they often have to do this. when they watch wildlife.is someone falls in.if matter gets into the water they need to no where it mighthave traveled or spread to ( poisons, kegs, toxins etc) they also need to no where certain animals might end up. also where dead animals.or marine life like dolphins, seals for example that get stuck in shallow waters or city rivers

these were my thoughts. why havent we (or have i missed it) not talked more of the campsite.could someone not staying there regualy see her walking her dog on the dot by routine and then know her timing and walk down to a t. take her. wait a bit with her in the caravan then just drive away from staying at the site?

And that is probably why they have been at Shard bridge.

Suzi888 · 09/02/2023 06:03

Do the police have Nicola’s Fitbit data?
Has that indicated she entered water?

The police have analysed the river the day NB supposedly entered the water. Was it flowing fast enough to send her body out to sea or not?

Police are determined she went in the river? family say no? (but have also said they don’t believe a third party is involved?)

What’s the other hypothesis? Are they not disclosing…. I don’t understand.

Museya15 · 09/02/2023 06:06

I haven't read much about this case, only on here. If somebody abducted her, would the dog not of went after her? The only reason you'd jump in the river would be suicide, you wouldn't go after a ball in freezing cold weather, not even in hot weather. She's either gone on her own accord or been taken but an abductor isn't going to march someone across fields through pathways and risk being seen.

Monzeitia · 09/02/2023 06:17

Thank you for posting the video, what a stunning place, I hope too she is found
