Its the period from 9:33 until 10:50 which is concerning - a long time (added on to 9:10 last sighting).

Do we think that the woman who tied the dog up went back to the bench to see if it was still there at 10:50 and then called her DIL / School / PA / Police?

Yes that's my concern from my first post, the huge gap in the timeline is very worrying. Personally, I wouldn't tie a dog up that I didn't know. I would report it though.

www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/police-rule-out-nicola-bulley-8123622

latest position from police force.

Please note the very first sentence.

It does not say we are keeping an open mind at this stage or until further evidence we would like to consider all options.
It starts with ‘we would like to reassure the community’

This is staggering to me, they seem more interested in appeasing the concerns of the community. Where is the evidence Nicola is in the river? Surely question number one. How can anyone anywhere be sure?

If the family are losing confidence it’s not hard to see why. Jesus wept.

placemats · 08/02/2023 12:31

To add I wouldn't tie up my friend's or sister's dog as I don't live with them but have walked with them.

To be fair, this is from last night's presser but they have literally said at the presser that they "do no expect to find any criminal elements in this case". How they can be so confident about that is beyond me, it really is.

BethFromThisIsUs · 08/02/2023 12:33

Because they clearly aren’t telling us everything oh my goddd 🤦🏻‍♀️

ListenLinda · 08/02/2023 12:35

Is it not possible she may have entered the river at a completely different point, to the one the police think she did?

And they clearly aren't telling the family either. Why not?

Yes it’s too defensive. The police above all else should remain entirely open and neutral to any possibility at this stage.

SnakeOiler · 08/02/2023 12:36

I haven’t followed this story from early on because I don’t watch the news, I saw a post on here. But I read something on the media that suggested mental health issues on her side?

I haven’t read everything out there but I feel like she chose to leave. I don’t know why, I just do.

Saucery · 08/02/2023 12:36

If you're sick of offlead dogs where they are supposed to be on lead (maybe because you have livestock) you might tie one to a bench if it was running about without an owner?

True

If Nicola Bulley's favorite shoes are still in her wardrobe, she didnt run away from home.

The police are telling us a lot of baseless guesses and sharing lots of assumptions. I wouldn’t expect them to say very much at all - but they have certainly nailed their colours to the mast with their own speculation very very publicly.

I wonder how reassuring it is to the community?? I would be very far from reassured.

DatasCat · 08/02/2023 12:38

Am I the only person to think the police may not be entirely transparent about their strategy in handling this case…?

This isn’t the latest position from the police - it is a write up a day later from a press conference from a day before spun by a local newspaper.

Go to the Lancashire Police website if you want their position.

CitizenofMoronia · 08/02/2023 12:38

Spring spaniels are water dogs, if she had gone in the river it would have gone in after her, it had been running between the bench and the gate, NOT the river, the dog thinks she has gone out the gate.

I'd immediately report it. No way am I going to tie up a dog I don't know.

pigsinoodies · 08/02/2023 12:39

They're actively looking for any signs of criminal activity, using a team of 40 detectives and with the oversight of the National Crime Agency.

They're very obviously going into every detail but quite rightly aren't sharing every minute detail of an ongoing investigation for the enjoyment and curiosity of the public.

But why didn’t the dog follow her? If she left or was abducted, would the dog stay at the river?!

Yes that is exactly what I was saying. That’s oddly why I am really convinced she isn’t there.

Suzi888 · 08/02/2023 12:40

Hope she is found to give family closure.

I think this could potentially end up as one of those unsolved cases, it’s been so long now. Just think of those poor children.

The dog can't get out that gate.
It's a kissing gate with chicken wire.

Enjoyment?? That’s an horrendous thing to say. Most people are very upset about this. It’s a mothers forum, we are extremely concerned for her.

And yes many of us, have lost some or all confidence in the police which isn’t surprising.

BethFromThisIsUs · 08/02/2023 12:42

Oh please. It’s like a reality tv show for some.
