Have they stopped now searching the river?

Only private company. The police are still searching towards the sea

Is it a coincidence that the CCTV that could offer crucial evidence is broken just two days before?

It could be a coincidence.

It could also be something looked back on with hindsight as excatly something a serial killer/stalker who had chosen a target and planned their route/abduction would do.

Blessedwithsunshine · 08/02/2023 15:50

At this point it’s absolutely disgusting that they haven’t launched a criminal investigation. Nicola is not in the water.
What are they waiting for?
It should have happened immediately but now so weeks later they are still resisting despite the suspicious circumstances around her disappearance.
Its looking more and more like police negligence and incompetence!

We need an update from the police, and what they plan to do about this now.

Her poor family!

ThighMistress · 08/02/2023 15:50

That’s a good point by pp that she might have fallen in but managed to get out the other side of the river and collapsed somewhere. I presume that area has been searched.

Why would you ask for a search warrant if you had nothing to hide? If the police were looking for someone round here I’d be more than happy for them to take a look in my house/garage.

RoseAndRose · 08/02/2023 15:50

Blessedwithsunshine · 08/02/2023 15:43

There is also the issue that she routinely walks the same route for years. I can’t think what would have startled her so much that she dropped her phone, left the harness and lead behind. Surely if there was a problem with the dog you would grab the lead and/or harness.

I thought she might have been sitting on the bench, listening to the Teams call, dog having a bit of an off-lead sniff around. Or perhaps just walking past with dog off lead.

Dog craps. She puts the stuff she's carrying on the bench whilst she reaches for poo bag and goes over to deal with it. Something happens before she returns to her belongings. But if some/all items were on the ground, that wouldn't make sense.

SoTedious · 08/02/2023 15:50

Doesn't the fact that the dog was by the bench suggest that whatever happened to Nicola happened there or west of the gate? If she had fallen in further upstream why would the phone and the dog be at the bench? And if she left the eastern field where the broken CCTV camera is, again why would the dog be hanging around the bench?

I can see why, if there is no way out to the north or west without appearing on CCTV, and the land nearby has been searched, they think she must have fallen in.

So clearly she isn’t there, when will they actually realise it’s a criminal investigation

Blessedwithsunshine · 08/02/2023 15:52

I would be incandescent at this stage in the family’s position, how can the police continue with the accident theory when in fact none of this stacks up.

Crazymumto1 · 08/02/2023 15:51

They won’t. They will close the case as a her body must of been washed out to sea.

Any other search will end up being private by family. Since there is no evidence of foul play. No blood/no screams/no cctv of her being Manhandled etc

Mirabai · 08/02/2023 15:55

confounded234 · 08/02/2023 15:06

If those timelines are correct it then this is a massive question mark over the whole investigation. So NOONE called the police or anyone till 10.50? At that point, someone called the school who called Paul who called the police. So the dog was unattended for 70-80 minutes at the bench? When did the police arrive, say another 10-15 minutes.

The 10 minute window is ONLY based on the police theory that Nicola left her phone and the dog at the bench at 9.20. If she didn't, then there's a huge window of opportunity

And I still go back to the question of why no CCTV of Nicola on her walk has been released?

The 10 mins window (in fact it’s 23 mins) is the window in which she went missing.

9.10 seen in field, 9.20 phone signal puts the phone the area of the bench, 9.33 dog, phone and lead/harness found and no NB.

In actual fact, if she didn’t fall in the river there’s a considerable window of time between 9.10 - 10.50 plus until the police came.

Again, unless I've misunderstood, there's no CCTV covering the path between the gate and the bridge on Blackpool Lane. She could have walked out the way she walked in. But without her dog and her phone..

Catstaps · 08/02/2023 15:56

The private diving company said the water next to the bench was only a foot deep and rocky beneath surface ..he could stand in it with no trouble. They’ve thoroughly searched it now twice and he’s confident she’s not in there especially as the river was in initiall searched on the same day. Surely their focus now has to be foul play.

Tidsleytiddy · 08/02/2023 15:56

ofwarren · 08/02/2023 12:00

I agree that it's significant too
It shows that the family are putting trust in what Peter Faulding is saying. They believe she isn't in the river.

I believe the whole “bench” thing could be a red herring by someone who has abducted poor Nicola

Mirabai · 08/02/2023 15:57

What they need now is a case review from different force - which is standard procedure. The family need to insist on it.

Tidsleytiddy · 08/02/2023 15:57

Absolutely they do

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/02/2023 15:58

I haven't seen a map that shows the weir in relation to the area where she disappeared. Could a person have abducted her and then later disposed of a body beyond the weir, thus making it easier to be taken out to sea? It might not have happened all in one short timescale, i.e abduction first, disposal of body later.

Goldpaw · 08/02/2023 15:58

The answers to those are that we don't know. And since we don't know I think it's daft of the police to assume a scenario and hold fast to it when there are a number of possibilities beyond she fell in by the bench and has been washed downstream. SGI don't believe she's in the water. The police will search to the sea, not find her (imo) and then say she's probably gone out to sea.

RubyPip · 08/02/2023 15:59

Did she take this route often?

I've been 100% convinced she drowned in the river but I admit it's looking less and less likely.

Though the police say they have more info so more reason to believe she was 'in the river at some point'

I may have missed this as I wasn't on the first thread. But where was she supposed to be when she'd finished her dog walk? If she was on a work call while on her walk, then presumably she was meant to be working. Did no one notice her absence before 10.50?

But she already wasn't there by 0933, unless she was hiding or dead and the dog wouldn't have left her alone in either of those cases.

After 0933 there clearly must have been other people there because 2 separate people had arrived to walk their dogs.

Absolutely.

Tidsleytiddy · 08/02/2023 16:01

And just because the dog, harness and phone were by the bench doesn’t mean Nicola ever was on that morning

madeyemoody · 08/02/2023 16:01

@Goldpaw

They have had a review from the NCA and found their process as satisfactory with no changes to be made.

ThighMistress · 08/02/2023 16:03

I’m confused: so between the woman finding the dog and phone and her dd going there at 10.50, no one passed that way? No one else thought why is there a random dog tied up and a phone next to it? Confused

madeyemoody · 08/02/2023 16:03

@OhmygodDont given how big this has become they probably will downscale the effort and put a skeleton team on it to continue searching. I highly doubt they will close it. There is too much public scrutiny.
