Islam is compatible with liberal democracy because as with any religion it's all down to interpretation.

Yes of course there are extremists in Islam, just as there in Christian far-right America.
I'm a Christian and while I understand though not condone the extremist elements of islamic fundametalism I am far more concerned with my own religion which has way more loonies in it, let he is without sin and all that....

The vast majority of people from both of these religions are peaceloving, kindly, nurturing individuals who contribute to their community in a positive way.

The Koran indorses none of this violence, it's just interpretation by our oh-so imperfect human men.

It says all sorts of things in the bible - most of which in the Old Testament - for example that it's ok to beat your wife - all of which is written out/covered with grace with the coming of Jesus in the New Testament.

It is ALL down to interpretation - my husband is a lay preacher, I am a liberal, divorced, lib-dem voting, had an abortion, committed nearly every sin going, feminist woman.

in which part of the quran does it say its ok to beat your wife exactly. The quran in your sad fantasy land?and sorry where does it say women are stupid? It actually says if you had bothered to read it that women will enter the paradise first because of their kindness and women should be celebrated because they can give birth and raise children. Oh and when you have a dispute with your wife you should always speak kindly and with respect. You see i have read the quran . You trolley should stick to giving plastic containers to people instead of debating things that you obviously have not got the mental capablity to understand

I have to admit to being sadly uninformed about the teachings of the Koran. I cannot add to the discussion here about that.

i grew up in saudi arabia, and i felt safer thaere than i do in london.
i have often been to islamabad, adn feeli it is safer than london. not as safe as many rural places in pakistan, but safer than london. and quite frankly it is a much safer place for a westerner, because no one would dare touch a western looking woman there for fear of the consequences. (racism, when it works for people tends to be ignored by them)
kindly go back to your rockf rom under which you hav ecrawled out. on mn we do reasoned intelligent debate. people with very different points of view manage to get on perfectly acceptably, without resorting to such vile obscenties.

oh, and even though you are not actually interested in any real facts, i still think i will point out that the prohephet mohammad was an employee of his first wife. and he stayed her employee for the duration of the marriage. ie, even though he married the boss, he didnt become the boss. he still worked under her.
