I'm not a bot.

Was just trying to find out a bit more about the situation, build-up of current events beyond the surface information.

Found a lot of information from late last year (leaked Pandora Papers) - of course like all news it's Hmm

but he isn't some naïve young actor with a cute architect wife who accidentally fell into politics whilst playing Paddington?

Got my flameproof suit on but I just think in terms of information (especially as some Mumsnetters are probably using this forum as a primary source of information) it's useful to try to have a complete picture if you're thinking about how to engage with a situation that you're learning about.

Everyone comes into a situation from a different angle - I'm personally fairly uneasy with backing policies that put myself and people on the breadline at risk, by a multi-millionaire with substantial assets abroad with links to a billionaire who is already sanctioned by the EU and the US (awaits flaming).

(am I the only one who is hunting down a source of "unbiased news" regularly?)

I'm sure the regular media is aware of this and when it suits the narrative/story arc they'll bring it up again.

@Amrapaali

It is mental isn't it? Grin

I am not asking anyone to do or think anything, but just providing (relatively recent, arguably a bit biased but seem essentially reputable) links that aren't available currently as they've been overwhelmed on search engines by current events.

After Iraq and Afghanistan (not sure if I'm meant to know about these as a bot) there should definitely a bit more motivation to "try to look behind the immediate headlines and events" when considering strong action. Ask Reg Keys or the people left in Afghanistan or Iraq.

In return I'm a:

Russian bot
Tory
Anti-religion poster
Conspiracy theorist
(various other things but I can't list them all)

Night all, I'll go to reading my "why COVID is a conspiracy theory" book now whilst drinking vodka and kissing my poster of Margaret Thatcher.

I'm just wondering when the straws are going to run out that the OP is clutching.

Bless.

Basically you can run the x files, but then people just think your spooky, for considering different perspectives

He may be worth millions but at least he is staying & fighting with & for his country & people. If the situation was reversed & it was us Boris & the Tory Government wouldn't be able to get away fast enough & would be hidden away in a bunker or have fled the country.

Viviennemary · 08/03/2022 23:24

Did your pal Putin put you up to this. If so you're not very convincing.

noblegiraffe · 08/03/2022 23:24

What's the different perspective?

What about Zelensky having money stashed offshore changes the invasion of Ukraine by Putin?

sst1234 · 08/03/2022 23:24

Agree OP, the solidarity will disappear as soon as the next bit of news comes along. It’s a hobby for people to show solidarity, it’s mostly virtue signalling. Anyone remember Afghanistan in the summer - what happened to the solidarity there. Rich politicians with vested interests are telling ordinary folk to make sacrifices and be poorer so that can engage in ideological warfare - on both sides. And people are falling for it.

JuliaSways · 08/03/2022 23:25

With that @RedToothBrush I'm off to snuggle up to OP and write rude messages on her Maggie poster 😉

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 08/03/2022 23:26

It must be getting late in The Russian Federation, so he/she's gone to bed, no doubt clutching a putin plushy 😄

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/03/2022 23:26

Once again, it's nothing to do with "anti-religion", it's that every time I have seen something on social media that starts with "I just wonder what the media aren't telling us", it has devolved into antisemitism very very quickly, so forgive me for assuming that this round of it will do the same.

I’m surprised you were able to type considering you’re so far up Putin’s arse.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/03/2022 23:28

"It’s a hobby for people to show solidarity, it’s mostly virtue signalling". Maybe for some, but don't assume that just because you don't know anyone who's had their life upended by this, the rest of us don't.

You've misread the thread. The consensus was that you're ill informed and having difficulty grasping quite simple concepts.

Noone called you a tory. Really, noone.

Noone called you anti- religious. Quite a few people pointed out that you were using arguments with antisemitic undertones. Its disturbing that you don't understand that.

cuno · 08/03/2022 23:28

If that's the worst you could dig up about him, he's a damn sight better than our politicians and I really don't understand the froth or the need to start a whole thread about this non-news.

ABitBesotted · 08/03/2022 23:29

It's easy to tell 99% of Mumsnet had never heard of the chap until a couple of weeks ago.

I do agree with your point about trying to find diifferent news. Good luck. I used to watch the slightly ridiculous Russia 24 and the actually really decent business news, RBK, on youtube, but as of this week they've been blocked in this amazing democratic country. I don't think they showed "the truth," but I know for a fact that the BBC doesn't, either, so where to look? Aljazeera is interesting, some of the Indian news sites try to be objective. I'd be interested to learn of any independent or perhaps African, Asian news sources people could recommend.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 08/03/2022 23:29

Can people please stop putting pictures of Johnson up 🤢

Nightmare fuel 😵‍💫

Amrapaali · 08/03/2022 23:31

I remember Afghanistan. However I don't remember British MPs packed like sardines in the commons wearing ribbons and masks in the Afghan flag colours.

They did that for Zelenskiy today. Quite bizarre

Who cares? All politicians are corrupt it's a requirement for the job. There is a high chance he won't make it out alive and he's fighting for his people when he could have been airlifted to safety which is more than most UK and US politicians would ever do. Can you seriously see Biden or Boris joining their forces to defend their countries?

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/03/2022 23:34

"It's easy to tell 99% of Mumsnet had never heard of the chap until a couple of weeks ago". Once again, don't assume just because you didn't know something, the rest of us didn't, because I very much did, and while I had no particular illusions about the guy he is certainly behaving heroically now.

How is it possible for the shirt-on photo to be even more horrifying than the shirt off one? It's too late at night to be subjected to that kind of psychological torture.[/quote]
Its impressive isn't it?

I will refrain from trying to find a "MN Woganesque" one though.

I don't want people to get PTSD.
