To support the no fly zone in Ukraine

I get why we haven't but when the Ukrainian president begs for it I think about how I'd feel, if it was my country.
We are surely just delaying the inevitable, we are consoling ourselves that trucks full of supplies is enough when in reality we are showing weakness.

@ThisIsGroundControl

itsnotover Zelenskyy begged today for a no fly zone.

So it's not happening to us so all A OK?

No. A no fly zone will directly lead to WW3 and all that that entails. Why can't you see that? It's not cowardly, it's not leaving Ukraine to it, it is biding our time. It is managing a war mongering maniac until such a time as there's a chink in his armour.
Itsnotover · 05/03/2022 00:11

Thank you @LondonWolf for your common sense.

ThisIsGroundControl · 05/03/2022 00:21

LondonWolf it is arrogance to think we can 'manage a war mongering maniac'

Where as your logic is…. reckless. To say the least.
RoseRedRoseBlue · 05/03/2022 00:23

So what do YOU suggest then?

Itsnotover · 05/03/2022 00:24

And yes we can manage it when he has no support from anyone, even traditional allies.

MaryAndHerNet · 05/03/2022 00:25

@RoseRedRoseBlue

So what do YOU suggest then?
Set up a no fly zone. Engage Russian planes. Start WW3

Putin launches on London, Washington, Moscow.
US, UK retaliate.

World ends.

That'll show em...

colouringindoors · 05/03/2022 00:26

If not here, now, then Where do we draw the line?

🙄
RoseRedRoseBlue · 05/03/2022 00:29

@colouringindoors right now it’s the most terrible waiting game, but it’s all we can realistically do. I am sure there is a Hell of a lot going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about.

Duchessfloofy · 05/03/2022 00:29

Nope OP, that's crazy talk.

NotMyFinestMoment · 05/03/2022 00:33

@TwentyTOoo

I have to say I think if he invaded a NATO country there’s every chance that article 5 would be quickly forgotten and it would be a case of letting him do it to avoid a nuclear war, and again and again just hoping he gave up sadly.

Look at the agreement Ukraine had if they gave up their nuclear weapons ……

This
Namechangedforgoodreason · 05/03/2022 00:34

Nope. It would be game over tic tak toe

No it isn't. It's sense. Of course it should have been done before this invasion but no we all just buried our heads in the sand at the behest of our leaders and made ourselves vulnerable and dependant on Russian energy.
TulipsGarden · 05/03/2022 00:39

It would be utterly pointless, because within a few hours there would be no Ukraine left. No UK either. Nothing.

adultingforever · 05/03/2022 00:51

ThisIsGroundControl. I am with you on this!! I think Putin would back down immediately if the democracies would all work together to enforce a NFZ and start putting boots on the ground. He would see he could not fight against all of us. But I have never understood why we all sat by and watched him even start this war! Why didn't we send in troops just inside Ukraine's borders, to stop him from ever entering in the first place? We could have just placed them there on "drills" or "games" and left them there until he withdrew his own troops, or some such thing. But no, we are too afraid to do anything; so the bully gets away with it and the Ukrainian people are the ones who pay the most awful price.

ScribblingPixie · 05/03/2022 01:00

we all just buried our heads in the sand at the behest of our leaders and made ourselves vulnerable and dependant on Russian energy.

The UK isn't dependent on Russian energy - less than 10 per cent of ours comes from there.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 05/03/2022 01:02

@adultingforever, you actually say that he “could not fight against all of us”......which significantly increases him resorting to nukes.

Newdad19 · 05/03/2022 01:10

Why are you all so rude and piling on? The OP is allowed to have a different opinion

puffylovett · 05/03/2022 01:15

He wants a war with the west imo. Someone posted a link to his Kremlin speech the other day, a huge anti American anti nato rant. If all he cares about is secure borders and no threat from the west and NATO have expanded way past the original agreements, I can kind of understand why in his warped mind he’s done this.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 05/03/2022 01:29

@Newdad19 perhaps because people are very anxious and worried right now, and she is agitating ?

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/03/2022 01:33

@Newdad19

She's entitled to her own opinion, but not her own facts.
Fernsinthegarden · 05/03/2022 01:55

OP - enough has been said already by reasonable and rational posters.

To those who have said we are cowards - do not undermine our armed forces and intelligence who have been actively working against the worst case scenario since the Cold War and even before - it reflects poorly on you.

To those who are trying to make the comparison with Hitler and Nazi Germany…honestly. Stop whipping up hysteria and listen to what others have to say. I understand the sentiment and fear behind the comparison but please, let’s not compare one puny dictator to another.

Instead of speculating where this all may or may not go, which is beyond most of our power, we out to continue to support refugees from Ukraine within our means.

Silvergreen · 05/03/2022 01:56

NATO will be trying everything to cause regime change and revolution in Russia alongside promises of asylum and riches to their agents in the Kremlin in exchange for a bullet in the back of Putin's head.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 05/03/2022 02:10

Tbh it's so insulting and immature to be talking about this in terms of 'showing weakness' and 'playground bullies' that you don't even deserve a response. Your time would be better spent reading about diplomacy and humanitarian crises. It's hawkish attitudes that have made the world more unsafe for everyone.
