...for young women?

Apparently she's earned £30 million through TV, books, etc.

OP posts:

If she's made that much I'd say she's a pretty astute businesswoman - does that not make her a good role model for young women then?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 17/12/2007 23:39

I don't see the problme with it tbh. From what I have read/watched about her she is pretty bloody clued up.
So she used her sexuality to make her first lot of money, ok, but she then went on ploughing it into allsorts.
Good Luck to her, prefer her up there to Angelina Jolie.

HarkThegeekymummySings · 18/12/2007 11:35

I don't think she should be lauded, young women could do with role models who are seen to use their brains and talents rather than their breasts.

JolieGirl · 18/12/2007 11:38

I think she's a great role model. She is a mum to three children (inc one with severe disabilities), has a happy marriage, millions in the bank, a loving and supportive family, sporty (owns horses) and is an awesomely succesful businesswoman. What is not to respect? This is the 00's not the 1950's!!!!

Depends on whether you judge success in purely monetary terms, I suppose.

Mincepiedermama · 18/12/2007 11:41

She's great apart from the tits thing. She has so many good qualities and comes across really well. It's just a crying shame that she's ridiculously thin with risible beach balls up inside her skin.

I wouldn't want my dd to aspire to her lifestyle, but then there are plenty of mums who'd be very proud so fair play to them I guess.

There really aren't many good female role models.

ellen macarthur imo

walkinginawinterBundleland · 18/12/2007 11:42

haven't bought cosmo for years, probably 20

JolieGirl · 18/12/2007 11:43

would rather be a soft porn star and IN CONTROL of my image than a saggy titted old feminist working at the Dartford toll tunnel collecting £1 coins

RubySlippedonastraymincepie · 18/12/2007 11:43

does anyone even read Cosmo anymore?

How depressing. OK, Jordan's earned shedloads through getting her tits out for the lads (which is dodgy enough) but there are plenty of topless models who don't earn that much. Or get drawn into the porn industry. And really suffer. It's hardly something to promote.

And what message does it send to young women? Get your tits out... and then you'll be called a slapper. Or don't get 'em out and be seen as unimportant.

walkinginawinterBundleland · 18/12/2007 11:45

either way, edam, tits isn't something i'd want to be noted for. nor my daughters

edam · 18/12/2007 11:46

'a saggy titted old feminist'? You are proving the point about what a bad atttitude towards women our sexualised society is creating.

RubySlippedonastraymincepie · 18/12/2007 11:47

Jordan may be paid a lot for what she does, but she is still objectified which IMHO doesn't make it ok

edam · 18/12/2007 11:47

quite, Bundle. As someone who is 'blessed' with generous norkage, I'd say it is bloody irritating when men talk to my chest. Or drivers of white vans yell remarks at me.

HarkThegeekymummySings · 18/12/2007 11:47

JolieGirl - and that's the only alternative?

JolieGirl · 18/12/2007 11:48

oh fgs you could use this to describe pretty much any highly paid so called role model. Let's take Ricky Hatton. For every boxing hero earning millions even if they lose a fight, there are hundreds of underage/young boxers risking brain damage in illegal bare knuckle fights to earn a pittance. So is Ricky directly to blame? Think not.

SheherazadetheSwedishjulbok · 18/12/2007 11:49

lol @ jordon being a role model. i would weep if dd decided she wanted to follow the jordon route to success and 'happiness'.

but since when have cosmo had role models on their front cover, haven't they always just had vacuous 'pretty' woman.

walkinginawinterBundleland · 18/12/2007 11:49

edam, it's so sad that tits aren't simply credited with the thing they're best at - breastfeeding
