Evan Davies is so lovely I want him for a novelty keyring. And he is going to become a presenter of the Today Programme

This is good news, surely, especially if it means the horrible egotist John Humphries is retiring.

Evan Davies is clever, enthusiastic, and really cute!

One of my most hated sentences: 'This is Phil Williams sitting in for Simon Mayo'. Cue the Afternoon Play.

pointydog · 28/11/2007 22:18

go on! run off hiding behind your guardian

I jest. I'm not one to be hung up on names

Aitch · 28/11/2007 22:20

hang on, 'Giggles' Anand was another one of the reasons i left r5. there's someone WORSE?

margoandjerry · 28/11/2007 22:24

All the late night ones are shocking. Richard Bacon, Stephen Nolan, Doton Adebayo (not sure on spelling but he is not worth a google to check on it, unless policywonk can't stop herself )

policywonk · 28/11/2007 22:28

Oh we did Dotun last night margo . In fact, there really can't be many broadcasters left whom we haven't done.

pointy - I know you love me really. Well, I know you feel reasonably cordial towards me really.

margoandjerry · 28/11/2007 22:36

goddamn you policy and your damn spelling prowess

seeker · 28/11/2007 22:37

Oh, I like Anita Anand. She's my third best friend after Shelagh Fogarty and Jane Garvey.

pointydog · 28/11/2007 22:44

reasonably cordial's as far as I go with anyone

I realise I have come very late to this thread but can I please repeat the fact that the first time I met the divine Mr Davies - we were all about 20 at the time - he was wearing nothing but a very skimpy dressing gown.

margoandjerry · 29/11/2007 11:08

Love your use of "announcers" littlelapin. Very 1940s. Am picturing you reading the news in a ballgown right now.

My mother refers to Zoe Ball as "that children's television announcer"

But then she has also been known to say "Charles and Clive" when she meant "Chas n Dave".

seeker · 29/11/2007 11:09

We need onebatmother with her Bamber Gascoigne story!

seeker · 29/11/2007 11:10

I referenced the lovely Mr Nunes earlier and got no response. I thought I had him all to myself - curses!

Threadworm · 29/11/2007 11:11

I don't like the Neil Nunes voice. Too Brian Sewell-ish a version of the lovely Jamacan accent.

I tune in to the announcers on the wireless in my drawing room every forenoon.

Aitch · 29/11/2007 11:30

lol at forenoon.
i think Neil Nunes sounds like a joke presenter so am always disappointed when he introduces gardeners' question time and it really is gardeners' question time.

so, MI. you met him wearing a skimpy nightie, you say? this is how rumours get started...

puddle · 29/11/2007 11:34

I think Evan Davies looks a bit peeled

Or like he was removed from the oven before he was quite done.

Aitch · 29/11/2007 11:44

YES! he looks like a day-old chick imo.

motherinferior · 29/11/2007 12:18

Oh yes, massively skimpy, and it was in the room of someone who subsequently became an MEP.

onebatmother · 29/11/2007 12:30

couldnt quite place ED so googled and it's all perfectly clear to me now.
from the observer 2005
"Really, life is full of little surprises. Twelve hours before trotting off to TV centre to meet Evan Davis, I just thought of him as the bloke off the Ten O'Clock News who looks like Andrew Marr but isn't Andrew Marr and who's hauled up to explain things like pensions and mortgage rates. And yet, there I am, half a day later, wondering if there's a polite way to ask him if he has a pierced penis."

seeker · 29/11/2007 12:32

Yay - I knew you would be here soon with your Bamber Gascoigne anecdotes!

Did he have a Prince Alber too?

onebatmother · 29/11/2007 12:34

too shocked to continue reading, seeker.
(isn't prince albert same thing though?)

onebatmother · 29/11/2007 12:36

(Seeker, can I ask for your attention to this thread regarding Will Self's merits?

We would value your opinion.)

CatIsSleepy · 29/11/2007 14:14

seeker, I responded re Mr Nunes
you don't have him all to yourself
harrumph

I always suspect I am just talking to myself on here...
