Evan Davies is so lovely I want him for a novelty keyring. And he is going to become a presenter of the Today Programme

This is good news, surely, especially if it means the horrible egotist John Humphries is retiring.

Evan Davies is clever, enthusiastic, and really cute!

I may have to defect from 5 live

dinny · 27/11/2007 19:34

he is lurverly - often used to share lift time with him and he is sooo smiley and cute and kind and considerate

CatIsSleepy · 27/11/2007 19:43

ah, evan is lovely...

like eddie mair too-shame he doesn't do the sunday morning show any more

seeker-I think I know the radio 4 announcer you mean...I love his voice

EffiePerine · 27/11/2007 20:06

Am I the only person devoted to the voice of Peter Curran? If he were on Today I'd set the alarm for 6

EffiePerine · 27/11/2007 20:22

that'll be a yes then

tissy · 27/11/2007 20:25

Aitch, yes Rhod Sharpe's still on Up all Night. I often wake in the night and he lulls me back to sleep. Dotun Adebayo's growing on me as well, although he used to annoy the hell out of me!

Aitch · 27/11/2007 20:27

dotun was the reason i stopped listening to it, he's too irritating for words.

Threadworm · 27/11/2007 20:31

God, I haven't heard of any of these non-Radio4 types. I was born with Radio4 welded to my ears. Middle-aged from birth.

Tell you who I really like on the Today programme. That dissolute Gary Richards the sports journo.

another reason i stopped listening to FiveLive was that HORRIBLE show on saturday mornings with all the buzzing and football crap.

seeker · 27/11/2007 20:47

I am going to have to shoot Dotun - waking up and turning the radio on and finding him on it is like turning on the Archers and finding it's an entire episode about those foul children!

tissy · 27/11/2007 20:48

you can always turn over to the World service!

Aitch · 27/11/2007 20:49

but once you've done that, you can't go back i've found. the world service sucks you in...

Swedes2Turnips1 · 27/11/2007 20:53

my father told me he always thought my first boyfriend was wrong for me "from the very first time i brought him home for the weekend". how was he so certain? He switched the yacht boy in the bathroom from R4.

tissy · 27/11/2007 21:01

who was the Scottish chap on Up All Night before Dotun? He was quite soothing as well!

seeker · 27/11/2007 21:02

Oh no, I did that once when I was pregnant and got a play from Nigeria, I think, about an Ebola outbreak. Everybody died hideously, and I swore a great oath that I would never step into World Service world again!

policywonk · 27/11/2007 21:04

Do they still play that space-y electroclash mix of British folk songs at about 5am? It always reminds me of nighmarish pregnancy insomnia.

Aitch · 27/11/2007 21:14

i've got to be honest, i did sleep a little easier when John Peel died. lovely guy and all that, but my heart used to sink when his show came on.

seeker · 27/11/2007 21:17

Your heart may have sunk when Home Truths came on - it must practically stop when the Fi Glover thing comes on now!

pointydog · 27/11/2007 21:18

I tell you what, I really don;t like Ken Bruce. His voice and manner give me the willies

margoandjerry · 27/11/2007 21:20

policywonk, that scary theme tune has gone. "What shall we do with the drunken sailor" morphing into "In an English country garden" or something equally terrible. I think it was called "UK theme" or something and there was a minor campaign to prevent its abolition, run by the sort of people who listen to You and Yours .

LOL that you associate that with pg insomnia. So do I - and the last Ashes tour with bfing in the middle of the night and listening to the reports from Australia. Hate cricket but quite got into that. They've got a sports presenter called Mark Pougatch who seems to be quite smart and makes cricket actually almost interesting.

Can't stand Doton. Think he's an idiot, but I reserve my loathing mainly for Richard Bacon who just is an idiot.

Aitch · 27/11/2007 21:25

doton did a documentary a few years back about 'sperm bandits', women who shag men in order to get pg. apparently he shagged some dutch bit on a cross channel ferry when he was a kid and she later phoned him to say she was pg but then he never heard from her again. he lives in constant fear, apparently.

i meant the JP wolrd service show, full-on the fall at 3am, it was awful. and i know that the fi glover show is terrible but i kinda like it cos i like her so much.

policywonk · 27/11/2007 21:29

Aaaah well margo, Mark Pougatch brings us back to 5Live I believe. I don't mind cricket on the radio - prefer it to cricket on the telly any day.

Can't believe anyone would campaign to keep that awful thing going. It used to make me feel sick - partly because I'd be thinking 'AAAARGH it's 5am and I have to GET UP in two hours and I haven't GOT TO FARKIN SLEEP YET'.

Don't mind 'lilibulero' though (uncharacteristically cannot be arsed to check spelling).

Dh and I had a couple of astonished mornings, when the radio came on and it was Radio 2 And it was that women whose name I can't remember but she used to be in the thing with Henry Kelly. And she just wittered on and on about large leather pants and things, and she was truly awful and then played awful music.

Then we were sort of ghoulishly fascinated, and said 'let's not change the channel' and back she came the next morning. We giggled for two mornings, and then it wasn't funny anymore.

What's her name? She's quite, large, I think, judging from her remarks about the leather underpants and her dogs or something.

policywonk · 27/11/2007 21:34

Sarah Kennedy. Blimey.
