Evan Davies is so lovely I want him for a novelty keyring. And he is going to become a presenter of the Today Programme

This is good news, surely, especially if it means the horrible egotist John Humphries is retiring.

Evan Davies is clever, enthusiastic, and really cute!

oh dear. over-enthusiastic evan davies?

leaves me cold.

policywonk · 26/11/2007 22:08

Well which Hard News Presenters do you have secret pashes on pointy?

TellusMater · 26/11/2007 22:10

Oh I like a bit of enthusiasm. Not Quentin Cooper levels of course - he exhausts me - but Evan is lovely IMO.

scampmum · 26/11/2007 22:11

I don't like John Humphrys, but only because I read an interview in OM or something in which he got properly irate about people boiling more water than they needed and now every time I boil the kettle in case DH wants tea and he doesn't I shrivel with burning environmental guilt.

mintydixcharrington · 26/11/2007 22:11

I love whoever said they would start watching the today programme forthwith

I can just imagine them staring really intently at the radio lolol

Threadworm · 26/11/2007 22:12

mmmmmmm hard news presenters.

margoandjerry · 26/11/2007 22:14

I read that scampmum. Doesn't he measure it out precisely first? Exactly one mug's worth? Can't bear him.

policywonk · 26/11/2007 22:15

You are beyond help, thready

Flamesparrow · 26/11/2007 22:17

pmsl this is the best thread title in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages

Swedes2Turnips1 · 26/11/2007 22:17

Policywonk - "misplaced apostrophes will kill us all and render our children infertile, or something."
So perhaps Hymphrys becoming a father again at 56 (or so) was demonstrative of his correct apostrophe placement? All greengrocers must be infertile and nobody will be able to say:"I am a greegroce'rs son the son of a greengrocer."

snowleopard · 26/11/2007 22:20

No thready you are right - he's fab. I must say I never thought of him as straight, but I do love him.

seeker · 26/11/2007 22:21

Evan Davis has a pierced "thingy"? Surely not!

You'll be telling me that Joshua Rosenberg has a Prince Albert next!

I second Jane Garvey to be Queen of Everything, policywonk.

policywonk · 26/11/2007 22:22

Ah Swedes, I see you have read his book.

What gets me about Humphrys is that he seems to confuse irritability with interrogation. I once heard Simon Mayo absolutely demolish Mo Mowlam, and you never heard a more polite and chatty demolition in your life. Humphrys seems to think that he is doing the listener a service by being rude. I'd prefer him to hold politicians to account in a more effective way.

seeker · 26/11/2007 22:26

Simon Mayo is surprisingly impressive, isn't he? And so is Nicky Campbell - it must be the Radio 1 tea or something!

mintydixcharrington · 26/11/2007 22:29

now joshua rozenberg wrote me an INCREDIBLY snotty letter berating me for misspelling his name on an envelope (but not the enclosed letter) once. Of course (a) I had nothing to do with typing the envelope and (b) who fucking cares, get over yourself and (c) what self important little tosser would actually write and point out that your secretary put an "S" instead of a "Z" anyway?

GIT

margoandjerry · 26/11/2007 22:29

Agree re Simon Mayo. And Nicky C is so much better on radio. I actually love them both. And this is my question for the day: when you have intelligent, entertaining presenters, why does Richard Bacon exist

mintydixcharrington · 26/11/2007 22:30

oh look the git has his own website - "rozenberg.net"

policywonk · 26/11/2007 22:31

I love Simon Mayo (but not like that, not in the way threadworm loves Evan). I was very surprised as I'd always thought of him as that-bloke-who-was-more-than-usually-excruciating-on-TOTP. I don't really like Campbell - he is a bit too pleased with himself - but I do think he's a very talented broadcaster.

mintydixcharrington · 26/11/2007 22:31

now the rosenbergs of "rosenberg.net" look like MUCH nicer people lolol

margoandjerry · 26/11/2007 22:36

think having your own website may be a key indicator of twattishness minty. Love that he wrote to you and will think of his crapness every time he comes on the news now.

One of my other pet hates, Rosie Millard, also used to have one although now there's just a spoof one: www.rosiemillard.com ripping the piss out of her.

seeker · 26/11/2007 22:37

I have suddenly gone off Joshus RoZenberg! Actually, he must be a bit dodgy if he lives with Melanie Phillips........

TellusMater · 26/11/2007 22:38

Melanie Phillips? Ugh!

seeker · 26/11/2007 22:39

I know. Can you imagine the pillow talk.....!

TellusMater · 26/11/2007 22:39

Eww!

policywonk · 26/11/2007 22:40

Blimey. Gruesome twosome.
