Oh I like a bit of enthusiasm. Not Quentin Cooper levels of course - he exhausts me - but Evan is lovely IMO.

I don't like John Humphrys, but only because I read an interview in OM or something in which he got properly irate about people boiling more water than they needed and now every time I boil the kettle in case DH wants tea and he doesn't I shrivel with burning environmental guilt.

What gets me about Humphrys is that he seems to confuse irritability with interrogation. I once heard Simon Mayo absolutely demolish Mo Mowlam, and you never heard a more polite and chatty demolition in your life. Humphrys seems to think that he is doing the listener a service by being rude. I'd prefer him to hold politicians to account in a more effective way.

Simon Mayo is surprisingly impressive, isn't he? And so is Nicky Campbell - it must be the Radio 1 tea or something!

now joshua rozenberg wrote me an INCREDIBLY snotty letter berating me for misspelling his name on an envelope (but not the enclosed letter) once. I love Simon Mayo (but not like that, not in the way threadworm loves Evan). I was very surprised as I'd always thought of him as that-bloke-who-was-more-than-usually-excruciating-on-TOTP. I don't really like Campbell - he is a bit too pleased with himself - but I do think he's a very talented broadcaster.
