news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7109774.stm what do you think about this?

OP posts:
BigGitDad · 24/11/2007 23:03

oops typo, 18 I mean

Piffle · 24/11/2007 23:03

I for one am sensationally relieved men get no say in terminations.

HeyThereBert · 24/11/2007 23:04

so, ppb, if you fell in lobve, got pg then your partner started beating you and sleeping around or even just suddenly one day (2 weeks later lol) repulsed you... would you be happy that he could force you to grow and give birth to that child? and then what... make you leave coz you hadnt wanted it?

i dont think youve thought this through.

paulaplumpbottom · 24/11/2007 23:04

Yes I unerstand that as well. I do have a daughter Edam get to your point

edam · 24/11/2007 23:04

Same as any other case where the mother decides not to tell the father, BigGit...

controlfreaky2 · 24/11/2007 23:05

err, well if "he's" not the father paula..... he's GOT NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!

expatinscotland · 24/11/2007 23:05

'I don't see what diffrence that makes. '

A whole lot because it changes a woman's body forever, not to mention her emotional and mental state or the potential risk factors to her health from both pregnancy and childbirth.

Being pregnant and having children changed who I was biologically forever.

But it didn't change my husband's body one jot.

edam · 24/11/2007 23:06

The point that this is all about womens' bodies has been made repeatedly, Paula but you seem to be ignoring it. When men can conceive and carry babies, then they will be able to decide whether to have an abortion.

paulaplumpbottom · 24/11/2007 23:07

If you aren't prepared to have a child with someone you shouldn't be sleeping with them in the first place.

Piffle · 24/11/2007 23:07

and big git dad this way it will be recorded as father unknown and that will be the end of it.
When/if the child decides to contact his/her birth mother, then it is up to her to furnish that child with the reasons for her actions.

Elizabetth · 24/11/2007 23:07

She might have been raped. Women do get pregnant from rape sometimes.

controlfreaky2 · 24/11/2007 23:08

paula, there are nmany many children who dont know who their father is...... and a lot of them are in two "parent" families and think the man is their father......

do you think there should be routine compulsory dna testing to make sure fathers are really fathers of children they think are theirs?

Piffle · 24/11/2007 23:08

well let's assume that you chose to sleep with them Paula shall we

And how exactly would this relate to pregnancies resulting from
rape
deliberate tampering with contraceptives in order to try and trick a woman into pregnancy.

Where is the choice in that

BigGitDad · 24/11/2007 23:09

Very sad to me if the child is adopted and she keeps the father identity secret and dies with it, aside from the issue of letting the father know and I am not getting into that discussion but what about the baby who might want to know at a leter date who the father is. Surely they have a right to find out who the father is?

paulaplumpbottom · 24/11/2007 23:09

Oh don't insult me, I'm not saying there aren't exceptions.

HeyThereBert · 24/11/2007 23:10

If you aren't prepared to have a child with someone you shouldn't be sleeping with them in the first place. "

oh i SEE. youre talking about a perfect parallel universe.

well, now it all makes sense.

expatinscotland · 24/11/2007 23:10

are you for real, paula?!

c'mon!

edam · 24/11/2007 23:10

Yeah, right, Paula, let's abolish all birth control because it's made those little ladies get ideas above their station.

Piffle · 24/11/2007 23:11

maybe a mother has the right to protect a child from knwoing who it's father is
We cannot know how or why this has happened, but the father could be anything, good or bad. We must leave the decisions up to those who know the full facts
I am sure that the childs welfare beign paramount would have being the main motivator in the verdict

pastilla · 24/11/2007 23:11

thought it was seriously weird that ss wanted to approach the woman (not girl)s family in the first place if she'd already said they wouldnt make suitable adoptive parents - she'd know surely?
sad but right decision imo

paulaplumpbottom · 24/11/2007 23:12

I'm all for birth control. But everone knows its not 100%. People should be prepared for that.

LittleBella · 24/11/2007 23:12

I think anyone who tells me I should only fuck men with whom I want to procreate, is a) offensively opinionated about my actions - do I tell you what state of mind you ought to be in every time you have a fuck and b) hopelessly unreasonable. We live in the twenty first century with reasonably effective contraception and babies are no longer an inevitable outcome of sex.

controlfreaky2 · 24/11/2007 23:12

paula, doesnt your post re not sleeping with someone if you dont want a child apply to those men who you think should be able to "opt out" of their obligation to support their children financially??

do you really believe that?? most people think sex is about more for humans than reproduction.....

hatwoman · 24/11/2007 23:13

it is difficult but my gut reaction is that he waived any rights when he chose to deposit his sperm in a woman's body and chose not to have any further contact with her.

controlfreaky2 · 24/11/2007 23:14

there's no easy way to say this paula..... but you're WRONG.
