I'd agree OST - but it doesn't sound like it was possible in this case. Either because the mother genuinely didn't know who the father was, or because she was unwilling to tell the court. There isn't much the state can do if a person can't or won't reveal the information needed.

(This is assuming I'm thinking of the right case - if I'm not then I'm just wittering nonsense and should probably be left to it...)

Labor was rough but I couldn't have gone through it without him.

Without him I wouldn't have spent my morning staring at the bottom of the toilet.

Without him I wouldn't be pregnant now

I think that makes him just as importnant in the process
