here

and the police are taking it seriously.

but it's so easy to travel through Europe that it could be the same person? or at least someone with links to both abductors perhaps? After all if this abduction and the other one had something to do with paedophiles, there's a high chance that they may have belonged to the same child sex ring or whatever you call it - often when paedophile rings are smashed by the police they're worldwide with connections all over, so it's not inconceivable that someone could know two different child abductors that belonged to the same ring.

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 16:50

were the belgian girls killed by a paedophile ring then? if they think the letter is from the same person,it's very worrying.it does sound significant to me.it's being widely reported.

wannaBe · 13/06/2007 16:51

I dunnow though imaginary, if someone sent a map with crosses on it indicating a specific area it would have to be investigated. The police simply couldn't discount it, especially not if information was so specific.

NuttyMuffins · 13/06/2007 16:54

Where in the report does it mention a psychic ?? I can't see it.

WendyWeber · 13/06/2007 16:55

It doesn't - some people on here have just assumed it's from a psychic.

NuttyMuffins · 13/06/2007 17:01

Oh right ok, sorry, i missed that bit.

imaginaryfriend · 13/06/2007 17:03

Sure, wannabe, but not from a psychic who remains anonymous ...?!

Or at any rate I reckon the must have had a host of letters from psychics, hoaxers, well-meaning deluded types, etc. etc. This letter seems to be being taken more seriously.

mumemma · 13/06/2007 17:05

BBC says that the letter has been taken to be significant because the words "vermoedelijke vindplaats" were used in this letter and the previous one.

What do those words mean?

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 17:08

the phrase translates to 'where to find madeleine' and with a cross and two question marks, apparently

WendyWeber · 13/06/2007 17:09

It must be an unusual way of expressing it though?

TheDullWitch · 13/06/2007 17:11

It means "suspected findingplace" according to another news report.

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 17:13

i find this creepy and horrible.god only knows what those poor parents are going through.there really are some sick people in the world

wannaBe · 13/06/2007 17:20

means suspected finding place.

angeltoangel · 13/06/2007 17:30

according to this

"It is not the first time Portuguese police have searched an area following a tip off. It is understood their last search was carried out following contact
with a psychic medium in America."

whoever sent the letter i hope they do find her.

if i am honest if it was me i would prefer to know what has happened than spend a lifetime wondering and looking at the face of every child who walked past and trying not to imagine what has happened to her.

this case has struck quite hard as dd is only a few months older and it makes me go cold.

we travelled to ireland at the end of last month and dd was questioned by a police officer as to who she was and who we all were. she does not really look like madeleine and is a brunette but assume they are running checks. we were asked first for permission and it was no problem

TaylorsMummy · 13/06/2007 17:43

i think whatever way this case ends it is going to be hellish for the parents.tbh i think i would rather cling to the small hope that she was alive and being cared for somewhere for the rest of my life, than to have to cope with the reality of her having been killed in cold blood and dumped somewhere, left under rocks

what right have these bastards got to take somebody's child and do this to them?? i am so angry

Lanolin · 13/06/2007 17:48

The SKY link below does say it's a psychic:
"Apparently the letter came from a medium who pinpointed the location of two murdered Belgian girls - I think this is the reason for such credibility."

WendyWeber · 13/06/2007 18:02

Sky doesn't check things out though.

wannaBe · 13/06/2007 18:02

the link also says that there's not going to be any police activity there as the indication isn't specific enough.

If you ask me this is probably just one in a long line of letters/phone calls that have been received and it just so happens that this one has made it into the media because of the similarities with the other case.

wannaBe · 13/06/2007 18:04

also as it's sky, if someone told them it was a lepricorn (sp? they would still print it.

WendyWeber · 13/06/2007 18:05

Well she would know, obviously.

(Gaynor Jesus? Snort)

WendyWeber · 13/06/2007 18:09

Madeleine looks so much like her mother in that pic on the Sky website

mumemma · 13/06/2007 18:26

It does make you wonder why this one has made the news. There are so many hoax and crank calls there must be something significant.

I would be there looking myself if it was my daughter. I couldn't let it go just in case.

Wolfgirl · 13/06/2007 19:22

From what I gather, they say the area is too large and they need something more specific. but why dont they get the sniffer dogs in and.....just start somewhere! As near to the point that the letter suggested.

ELF1981 · 13/06/2007 19:22

Am so hoping this turns out to be a load of shite and she's found safe and well. I know that the probability of that is slim, but it must be so distressing to the family.

On a side note, it was reported in our local news that people have created an online petition for the McCann family to be investigated when they get back to the UK for leaving the children alone - not sure if that has been posted about today. IIRC the authorities are talking about following through on the call.
