does it matter RubberDuck, that is wasn't the exact spot?? the girls were found pretty close and the handwriting is the same. fgs, it doesn't take a genius to work out, does it? maybe the killer/killers haven't told their 'friends' exactly where but just roughly? or maybe the person who wrote the letter saw them go so far with the girls but not right to the exact buriel site?

RubberDuck · 14/06/2007 16:01

No, I was just correcting the hysterical outcry of "the police aren't doing anything" while at the same time propagating erroneous information.

TaylorsMummy · 14/06/2007 17:12

itn reporting search called off. i just don't understand this. it doesn't seem logical to me. the information is pretty specific, imo. only seven officers searched according to the report i've just read. that's just not good enough

akaJamiesMum · 14/06/2007 17:27

Am sure the police know what they are doing though. We are not privvy to the information that they have.
More shocking is that a newspaper publised the reports of this letter before giving it to the police or allowing the parents to be notified.

allgonebellyup · 14/06/2007 18:35

Actually agree with taylorsmummy

TaylorsMummy · 14/06/2007 18:38

wow, allgonebellyup - do you? maybe all hope is not lost then!!

dolally · 14/06/2007 21:54

Taylorsmum, IS the information specific? Have you seen the map? I haven't, but I understand that it shows an area about 15kms Northeast of Praia da Luz, and that the child is suposed to be buried North of the road, around 6 or 7 metres from the road. But what Road, and 6 or 7 metres north of what point in that road?

According to Portuguese News tonight they have neither started nor abandoned a search. They are trying to evaluate the veracity of this clue, which is one of thousands - it's just we don't know about all of the others.

They will be taking more decisions in the next few hours.

lucykatie · 15/06/2007 07:44

On GMTV, they have said that a search of an area is now taking place.....sniffer dogs and team of police are in area.

TaylorsMummy · 15/06/2007 08:25

thank god for that.lets hope they don't give up too easily

jenk1 · 15/06/2007 09:28

says here that police have cordoned off an area and are searching with sniffer dogs.

imaginaryfriend · 15/06/2007 09:53

Doesn't it say that the search is finished?

LIZS · 15/06/2007 09:57

According to BBC Radio news this morning the police are planning to search actively today, whether in the same area as mentioned I'm not sure

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6755587.stm

jenk1 · 15/06/2007 10:28

theyve changed the page since i linked it cos it said it was ongoing.

RubberDuck · 15/06/2007 10:32

And how hard is it going to now be for the sniffer dogs given the amount of journalists that have wandered over that land

ELF1981 · 15/06/2007 10:35

Not to be thick, but what are the sniffer dogs sniffing for? Are they sniffing for traces of her having been there at some point, or a body?

imaginaryfriend · 15/06/2007 10:43

Probably either. Any traces.

ELF1981 · 15/06/2007 10:48

I would have thought then, if looking for the latter, that the journalists wandering around would not hamper the dogs?
Probably would have destroyed any chances of trace if she'd just been there iykwim

LIZS · 15/06/2007 12:44

Called off

allgonebellyup · 15/06/2007 12:44

BBC News update at 11:08 states the searches with sniffer dogs this morning have found NOTHING, and now have now been abandoned.

Have they searched the whole area for long enough though?

compo · 15/06/2007 12:46

why surely that's good news, means she isn't thre?

allgonebellyup · 15/06/2007 12:47

yes i thought it was good news really, just sounded like they only searched for a couple of hours, thats all..

LIZS · 15/06/2007 12:48

Well it means, they haven't found her this time ie. no further forward.

TaylorsMummy · 15/06/2007 12:49

i don't think it's long enough.i really don't.the letter about the belgian girls was 2 km out, wasn't it? it looks like a big area, i can't believe they've called it off already

allgonebellyup · 15/06/2007 12:55

they should spread their search a lot wider, IMO. you cant just search a tiny area of land and give up after an hour. (not that i was there!)
