PinkChick hopefully that is part of an awning

quietmouse · 14/05/2007 20:50

I hope to god this apartment was searched at the beginning of the investigation because if not the police are going to have some very serious questions to answer....

it's 150 yards from the McCann's apartment fgs!

jenk1 · 14/05/2007 20:50

says they are questioning more than one person now on sky news

anniebear · 14/05/2007 20:51

At first I also thought that a nearly 4 year old wouldnt just wander off

But then again, she could have gone to look for her parents?

UCM · 14/05/2007 20:51

Argh I don't have sky as Virgin are arguing with them at the mo.

Please keep updating us.

toomuchtodo · 14/05/2007 20:55

do you mean they are searching an apartment close to the McCann's one?

quietmouse · 14/05/2007 20:56

this is bringing back horrible memories of Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr

the mother had apparently set up a stall by the bus terminal for people to give information and had a green van with a big picture of Madeleine on the side. It was going to be used in a big publicity drive tomorrow.

The son, apparently also used the van.

The van is now being searched.

The son was friendly with police and as he was bilingual chatted to journalists but refused to be interviewed on two seperate occasions. He also spent time with the McCann's immediately after Madeleine's disapperance - covering his tracks perhaps, regarding finger prints etc?

quietmouse · 14/05/2007 20:56

150 yards away

fifisworld · 14/05/2007 20:56

According to bbc news 24 this search f the villa has been going on since early this morning,it was only because a reporter seen something through the bushes surrounding the villa that we know about it

jenk1 · 14/05/2007 20:59

sky talking to a sunday mirror journalist who was very suspicious of robert murat, she spoke to detectives in the uk and they told her to contact the portugese police.
she told the portugese police that robert murat told people that he translated witness statements and the police said that was highly unlikely.
she said when she told the portugese police her suspicions they said we know who you are talking about and she didnt even give his name.

kid · 14/05/2007 21:01

I keep clicking refresh as I don't have sky news either.
I'm really hoping this is the breakthrough they so desperatly needed.

quietmouse · 14/05/2007 21:01

I wonder if he's known to the police here......

popsycal · 14/05/2007 21:01

police with white suits in the property

jenk1 · 14/05/2007 21:02

journalist said that rober murat found out that someone had reported him to the police and he left the area for a few days because he felt he was a "distraction" to the investigation.

kid · 14/05/2007 21:03

I'm sure they said police with white suits were in there earlier, I assume its so they don't contaminate any evidence they might find.

jenk1 · 14/05/2007 21:03

this is awful cos madeleines parents are in their apartment and are watching sky news just across the way

Pixiefish · 14/05/2007 21:04

I hope they're not watching it Jenk

They don't need all this specualtion- por things

ToughDaddy · 14/05/2007 21:05

apparently this guy said lots of things to journalists. But we ought to be VERY sensitive about what we say on this website as we get into sensitive parts of the investigation

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 14/05/2007 21:15

I can't help but think that Sky News are up to something. They are giving away a lot of information on this guy - more then would normally be the case considering he is only being treated as a witness at this stage.

I can't put my finger on it but it's very odd the way they are reporting it.

kittylette · 14/05/2007 21:17

its so horrible

'... draining the pool' >

god i hope they find her alive and well

kittylette · 14/05/2007 21:17

this is dvina

do you think they know something more than they are allowed to say?

noddyholder · 14/05/2007 21:18

This is very reminiscent of soham How awful it doesn't look good

Callisto · 14/05/2007 21:18

This is from the BBC news website:

"Villa searched in Madeleine hunt

A detailed search is under way at a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann went missing.
Police are reportedly questioning more than one person, but no-one has been arrested following the search in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

The BBC's correspondent Jane Hill, who is in the Algarve resort, said the villa, known as Casa Liliana, was the first to be sealed off during the hunt.

Four-year-old Madeleine, from Rothley, Leicestershire, disappeared on 3 May.

Ms Hill said the single-storey villa was owned by a British woman named Jenny Murat and that her son Robert was a frequent visitor.

Mrs Murat, who is believed to be 71 and a widow, has been running a stall on the seafront in Praia da Luz, appealing for information from the public about Madeleine's disappearance.

Local media are reporting that the search has been going on since dawn, she added.

At least one forensic officer has been seen at the property.

Searches had been scaled back in the area immediately around where Madeleine disappeared.

The focus had shifted instead to an international child abduction inquiry, amid suggestions she may have been taken out of Portugal."

I wouldn't trust a lot of what Sky are reporting, they are so tabloid and it all seems to be speculation.

reece · 14/05/2007 21:19

I don't think so. If they knew anymore they would surely be reporting it.
They have to keep the story going until something breaks.
I am hooked to the news.
I feel so sad for the parents

Spidermama · 14/05/2007 21:21

thisisdavina .... it's the way journalists are doing things these days I'm afraid. Remember the prostitute killings in Norfolk? The papers had all sorts of details about a suspect who was never even charged. It's a very worrying trend and I wouldn't be surprised if lawyers manage to get people off the hook because they can't find juries who've been unaffected by these ridiculous levels of coverage.
