For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World
OP posts:

Spidermama, we will of course discuss what we wish to discuss for as long as we wish, regardless of your dummy spitting. And we really aren't so odd you know.. half the country are discussing it and will do whether it bothers you or not. Perhaps you should go shut yourself in a cupboard for a while. I think SallyStrawb has one..

mumemma · 15/05/2007 22:23

Ok, battling on in the spirit of the thread - for those who haven't seen it, latest update on Sky News (take pinches of salt as required):

  • Murat spoke to Sky News crime correspondent off camera
  • couldn't say much due to police restrictions/privacy laws but wanted to profess his innocence
  • police have been visiting him at the villa all day, police seen leaving the house just now on the live news update
  • police took away several items which they will not confirm but his mother told Sky that it was computers, mobile phones and a pair of jeans
Whoooosh · 15/05/2007 22:23

I didn't mean a "new" thread as such-just getting back to the OP and ditching the current 700 odd posts.....

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:23

Your stroppiness is on poor taste really, when you consider what some people are going through.. Go punch a pillow or something!

debbsyandsonn · 15/05/2007 22:23

yes i understand that but as you can see down the thread lotso f us have said stop the specualtion and see what happens.

quietmouse · 15/05/2007 22:24

does anyone else find the mother a bit odd? Sort of like she is enjoying the media attention?

debbsyandsonn · 15/05/2007 22:25

thanks mumemma

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:26

Oh for goodness sake. Speculation does not equal enjoymen or entertainment! I have ocme on here the last couple of night to share thoughts with intelligent people concerned about the same thing as, I imagine, have other. Like a group of work colleagues having a conversation, or friends in a pub. Except we are on MN instead. And?!

morningpaper · 15/05/2007 22:27

Here you are, worry about this instead, which has shocked me:

"Hundreds of African boys have disappeared from London schools, police investigating the murder of a boy whose torso was left in the Thames have said.
Scotland Yard asked London education authorities how many black boys aged four to seven had vanished from school. Between July and September 2001, 300 had disappeared, and police fear thousands may go missing annually.

Despite an international search, police were able to find only two of them.

Child welfare experts say the figures hint at the scale of child trafficking, sometimes for labour or benefit fraud."

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:27

(And sorry if you didn't mean it that way Debbsy.. you are not normally one for slapping people down pettily I admit. The stroppiness of others is rubbing off I think! [bluush])

debbsyandsonn · 15/05/2007 22:28

Hey shiny i agree but there have been people coming in and speculating hasnt there?

morningpaper · 15/05/2007 22:28

(It's a 2005 article btw)

quietmouse · 15/05/2007 22:28

mp - this thread is about Madeleine. Why don't you start your own one?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:28

Er thanks Morningpaper. Think we can probably surf for shocking news stories ourselves if we want to.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:29

We've all been speculating haven't we?! It doesn't make us bad, evil or sick rubberneckers I don't think.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 22:29

I wonder if maybe we should let it lie for a bit. And I speak as someone who has been a regular contributor to these threads, but a, they always, without exception, lead to major speculation and arguments, and b, there seems to be a lot of bad feeling on mn about the existance of these threads and the fact that they keep going up active convos and actually don't contain any updates, which tbh, there are none.

I wonder if it would be appropriate to stop discussing this for a bit and not even have an updates thread but to post a thread if she is found. We do all have access to the media after all..

morningpaper · 15/05/2007 22:30

Yes you can surf for shocking stories but unfortunately you have to dig a bit for the ones that aren't about pretty blonde children

debbsyandsonn · 15/05/2007 22:31

i know,no problem feelings are just running very high.Really have got to go to bed now.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:31

Thank you Wannabe. That was a little more balanced and less dictator-like. You speak sense. But then some of us (like me) only get in around this time and come on to discuss when we can. I'm sorry if some find that annoying and uncessarily speculative.

Bubble99 · 15/05/2007 22:31

Oooh! Yes! QM.

She was wearing shoes as well, and she wears glasses! She must know something.

How you can post stuff like that under the banner of 'caring' is beyond me.

morningpaper · 15/05/2007 22:32

It is like the bloody Secret Seven in here

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:32

Oh MP What's rattled your chain? I can't help but find that a bit offensive even though I rarely find you so. I don't give a rat's arse what that little girl looks like.

quietmouse · 15/05/2007 22:33

oh fgs mp - this has nothing to do with race or Madeleine's looks.

Really, really.

Somewhere out there is a little 4 year old girl, in the clutches of god knows who, that is why she is in the News, because of her age, because of the way she was taken - by a total stranger - and yes, because her parents have kept her in the news - and bloody well done to them, I say.

Just because awful things are happening to children all over the world - does that mean we should feel less or look less for Madeleine??

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 22:37

actually I think it has a lot to do with how she looks and where she comes from. It isn't right but I do genuinely believe that if the parents were from a lower class background, and if Madeleine wasn't pretty or even black, this story would not have received the same kind of coverage.

And I think that if they'd been in butlins and the parents had been out, the headlines would have been vastly different and far more accusing.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 15/05/2007 22:39

Ok.

Well I don't think that way and don't appreciate the implication.

And I have lost the urge to converse now anyway. I will go and stare at the wall! [cue violins]
