For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

• police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
• they have an e-fit of him
• also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
• reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

Is the news still saying he has been released as there isn't enough evidence to arrest him ? If so it's prob best left tp police to do their job rather than playing mumsnet judge and jury. I not sure anymore liabellous situations needed.

Some news on the portuguese press today: Robert Murat visited child porn sites and video tapes were taken from the house. Also his daughter is called Madeleine,
I don't know if this was reported here or not.

Daily Mail has an update - apologies if this is a repeat of any earlier news. I had not seen anything previously about who the other people being questioned actually were and had also not seen anything about the link with the people in the petrol station:

"Police took away a computer, video tapes and blankets from Robert Murat's villa which they are searching.

Mr Murat, 33, his girlfriend and a colleague were questioned by police for several hours yesterday. His girlfriend was named locally as Michaela Walczuch, a German, and the other man was identified as her former husband Luis Antonio.

Descriptions of Ms Walczuch, a blonde, and her ex-husband match those of a couple caught on CCTV at a nearby petrol station shortly after Madeleine's disappearance.

Ms Walczuch, an estate agent, had recently set up a website with Mr Murat to sell property over the internet. The three were all released early today. Police said there were no charges "at this stage". It comes amid reports on Portuguese television that suspected paedophile images have been found at Mr Murat's home."

I'm not optimistic, if he is involved it seems unlikely he would still be on the scene if she were alive. Echos of Ian Huntley 'helping out' and chatting to the press.
Madeleine is the spitting image of my DD, I can't watch it on the news. Am sticking to Mumsnet as her pic is on so many signature strips on other parenting sites.

Theres a huge difference between the statements of 'taking someones pc away' to 'finding child porn on a pc'

Ill bow out of this thread now- if you look properly- you will see that there are many people on here seemingly 'obsessed' with this story. QM being one of them.

i have never been pissed off so much as tonight on here.

As it is very unlikely there will be anymore updates this evening, I don't see any point in going over and over todays 'news'.
Let's all just hope and pray for Madeleines safe return ASAP.

not sure one should be comparing him to Ian huntley really, esp if he's innocent.

I do think that one needs to be realistic. the police said today during their press conference that they could not be sure whether Madeleine was alive or dead.

Quiete Mouse, Iv'e noticed you a lot over the past few days, and have been touched by your concern for Madeleine, and impressed by your sensitivity. Hope you're OK.

I totally disagree with them naming his dd too.

His dd is innocent in this, as indeed he may be also.

I know he is being named as main suspect etc... but hold fire a bit, everyone is jumping on each other like wild dogs.

Wait & see what happens. We all wish Madeleine was home, safe & sound. At the end of the day we all wish for the same outcome.

I really haven't seen anything about the child porn allegations except the report that tugamommy reported earlier and which seems to be where the Daily Mail (yes, hate them too but already apologised for that earlier!) got their info from. I assume it's all just stemmed from the reports that computer equipment was removed from the house and if the Portuguese press have then made this assumption, they're as bad as the UK press! Of course, the papers know it will really get people going if they mention child porn.

As far as I know, the police have not even said what they removed from the house, just said 'some items' were taken away for investigation.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, can't we just stick to the real news. There probably won't be anything more tonight so let's all try and stop the endless speculation about Murat. I have faith that if he is guilty, it will all be proved very soon. In some ways, I am more worried that if he is innocent, an awful lot of time has been wasted but refuse to get bogged down with that thought just now.
