For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

Pea, yes I thought the same about Gaynor and said so last night.

harpsichordcarrier · 15/05/2007 17:48

sorry, just to clarify following on from Wannabee's post: Sean Jenkins was found not guilty of murder and is a free man.

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 17:48

But what exactly do you think about her?

JARM · 15/05/2007 17:58

Not enough evidence to arrest

paulaplumpbottom · 15/05/2007 17:59

I thought her story was all over the place as well

mountaingirl · 15/05/2007 18:03

If this man is innocent then the trial by media will have ruined his life. If he is guilty then surely the police wouldn't have released him? Still praying for Madeleine and her safe return to her parents and family.

sarahinphuket · 15/05/2007 18:06

what was said at the press conference...please?! I can't get it here in Thailand..

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:08

Not enough evidence to arrest him was the key thing at the conference (now live on internet).... but that they are focusing on this line of enquiry. Key suspect a 33 year old male and things taken from a villa for further investigation. They cannot id him under Portuguese Law. Very vague.

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 18:09

No access to TV here atm, what happened at press conference?

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:10

Suspect DID act as a translator at the beginning of the inquiry! (from horse's mouth)

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:12

"Lines of enquiry pointing in this one direction"

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 18:13

oops yes harpsi you're right.. apologies. was simply using that analergy to compare to "people helping at crime scenes are guilty".

paulaplumpbottom · 15/05/2007 18:14

He has hardly given any information

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:15

Very little information - like the last time.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 18:15

he's prevented from doing so under portuguese law though. not allowed to give name or nationality of suspect and rightly so.

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:16

Yes, understand the restrictions. Still convinced this guy is absolutely nothing to do with Madeleine's disappearance.

popsycal · 15/05/2007 18:18

report on sky news website now based on press conference

mumemma · 15/05/2007 18:19
  • Still waiting for the results of forensic examinations.
  • Searched five properties
  • Searches led to questioning of two people, one being the formal suspect
  • Investigations continuing, not enough evidence for arrest at the moment, but doesn't mean he can't be arrested later
Gameboy · 15/05/2007 18:19

I don't know - I still think there might be smething in this. Given that they have to get their facts straight to arrest him, then I wouldn't be surprised if they are looking for the last pieces in the jigsaw to make a strong case?

iammewhoru · 15/05/2007 18:20

who knows. If they've removed something from his villa and other locations then maybe he's been up to no good doing something else he shouldn't be and has dropped himself in it.

I don't think Madeleine will be found alive though.

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 18:22

Please don't give up hope!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 18:22

I'd imagine they are scrupulously careful to ensure they have enough evidence to ensure a case comes to court. Something which they are sadly not always in this country, as people are often arrested on charges and there is then not enough evidence to bring it to trial, so better to gather the evidence before doing the arresting and making an arse of oneself on national television

paulaplumpbottom · 15/05/2007 18:23

Please don't say that. We don't know that

iammewhoru · 15/05/2007 18:24

not a case of giving up hope it's a case of being a realist. These cases almost never have a positive outcome. Whatever has happened to Madeleine she won't have had a nice time of it.

mumof2monsters · 15/05/2007 18:26

Hey not meaning to be bossy.. but instead of thinking the worst why don't we all just take a minute to think of madeline and remember what a beautiful little girl she is and hope that she is still alive and being looked after somewhere. Sorry but have to think postitive otherwise the other option is too feel really sad and sick
