For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

I wonder how journalists sleep at night?

I wonder if it gives them a buzz going out and finding out as much information as they can to get their big, exclusive story?

I imagine those types are probably wannabe private investigators who would never have made the grade ...

SaintGeorge · 15/05/2007 17:04

Doesn't matter what newspaper it is.

Anything in today's papers will be old news. They are printing them by 1.30am at the latest so not exactly 'news update' material are they?

ThatBeetroot · 15/05/2007 17:06

Jools - explain- he did meet him buyt didn't think him suspiciosu yet he said he thought him suspicious? what???

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 17:07

I put the link on here because someone further down the thread said they had read no mention of Mr Murats girlfriend & ex H, so i linked to the page where somewhere had said earlier.

Blimey is it a crime to link to it.

mumemma · 15/05/2007 17:07

It's on the website and they keep updating the story - the photos of the girlfriend and ex-husband have only been added this afternoon. Daily Mail does tend to be on a par with Sky News on these sorts of cases. Trouble is, personally I do look at them from time to time and then wonder whether it was a good idea.

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 17:09

It's all in the newspaper's it is the news people are reading today, weather it was printed yesterday, last night or whenever it is the news of today.

To be honest if it is talking shit then thats not my problem, i was just showing someone who asked on this thread where these people had been mentioned.

Most of the crap spouted in papers is made up crap but it is what people are reading!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 17:09

have just heard the uncle on radio - now I know why it is people think he's creepy - he sounds just like Den Watts!

golds · 15/05/2007 17:13

Its hard to say, who knows, but it does sound a familiar occurance, when the person involved is the person that seems very helpful in the investigation e.g Huntley.

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 17:15

The girlfriend of Mr Murat is not blonde she has brown hair so what a crook of shit that statement was!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 17:18

golds but similarly a lot of people that make public appeals for the return of loved ones turn out to be their murderers, eg that building society manager that was murdered and the husband made the statement/sean Jenkins/there was a little girl... zoe Evans was it? and her stepfather made an emotional appeal and was subsequently found guilty of her murder.

Just because something happens in one situation doesn't necessarily follow that it will happen in another.

mumemma · 15/05/2007 17:19

I'm guilty of putting the original Daily Mail article in earlier today and it was because it was something that had been updated at lunchtime, not printed at 1.30am, and appeared to offer 'new' information, albeit pulling together some strands of information from previous reports, petrol station, etc. Who knows whether it's true?

Anyway, the police are supposedly making a statement at 6pm - maybe something new will come from that although it may well just be confirmation of what has already happened.

Scootergrrrl · 15/05/2007 17:20

There's a police press conference at 6pm according to Sky

ThatBeetroot · 15/05/2007 17:21

what has his girlfriend got to do with it? has she been interviewed?

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 17:27

His girlfriend has been interviewed, along wiht her ex-husband ( a friend of Murats')with whom she still lives.
Similarity to the 3 people on CCVT at petrol station to me.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 17:30

so say the daily mail anyway so it must be true .

I have to say there is one positive thing that has come out of all this media speculation about a suspect... and that is that the family have been left alone for once. Although I'm almost awaiting an interview with one of them from sky news asking "so, how do you feel now that police have a suspect?"

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 17:31

Sorry, I meant, there is believed to be a similarity between th these and the people caght on CCTV at the petrol station.

mumof2monsters · 15/05/2007 17:32

If the girlfriend and her ex are similar to the people linked to the petrol station then wasn't there an article that said the woman at the petrol station had a child with her?
Lets hope they have some news at 6pm.. those poor parents what is all this speculation doing to them?

iammewhoru · 15/05/2007 17:33

I think people feel the need to speculate about this man because in some way they feel that he holds the key and that this will all have a happy ending. That by talking about him and going into all the intimate details about him, bringing up his wife and family in some way paint him as a human being and that as a human being there?s more chance that he will have looked after Madeleine and that she will be returned safely to her parents.

If people thought Madeleine was dead they would be less likely to speculate about what he had done with her.

ledodgy · 15/05/2007 17:36

There is a press conference at 6pm.

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 17:36

Eh? She's not blonde!!!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 17:38

oh no wait I take it back - the grandmother is on 5 live as we speak.

mumof2monsters · 15/05/2007 17:39

Yes I think maybe you are right. Everytime I hear that a woman has been involved I keep thinking that maybe no harm has come to madeline because you like to think that a woman would not do that to a little girl.
I hate all this I just wish there was some news now, I have spent the last twelve days glued to the tv and internet and DH has told me to pull myself together when he sees me crying and upset but as a mother of a little girl the same age as madeline I feel very emotional about the whole thing

mumemma · 15/05/2007 17:41

Shall we just wait for the press conference, see what the police have to say and try and hold off the speculation for now? Not trying to be bossy - I am as guilty as anyone else but it's not necessarily helping things. mumof2monsters - I know what you mean, I am the same.

mumof2monsters · 15/05/2007 17:42

Yes lets hope 4 good news. Off now to bath my little ones!!

apeainapod · 15/05/2007 17:43

I haven't had a chance to read all of this but...please don't shout me down.

Did anyone see Gaynor de Jesus on Sky News last night? (She is the translator for the police and has been helping Sky News).

Maybe she was nervous about being on TV but her story seemed to change everytime she was interviewd.

  1. She said she had't seen Robert Murat for years - later she said 2 years ago.
  1. She said she met him last week in the coffee shop - later it was the supermarket.
  1. She said that they were childhood friends and that they used to go 'BMXing and skateboarding (I think) - later she said she couldn't remember him from back then.
  1. She said she couldn't remember anything about his family - later she said 'I can clearly remember his father had an estate agency (and then she recalled the name).

Today too - there have been other differences - maybe I am just being paranoid and picking - BUT I thought that I would mention it just in case.

I just pray to God that this British man is the lead that the Police need to find little Madeleine.
