For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

Am I the only one whose heart skips a beat when this is within the top 5 active convos. I know someone will start a thread saying she has been found, but the minute I see a paragraph, without reading it, I know she hasn't.

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 15:51

No me to UCM. I've always been convined this will have a possitive ended, and now hope/feel it may end soon.

Wolfgirl · 15/05/2007 15:51

Do you know, I have a picture in my head, of the little girl - been found - the parents rushed to where she is - and then she jumps in her mummys arms, legs wrapped round her waist, arms round her neck, mummy drops to floor, crying unconsolably! well heck, thats what I would do. wanna drop to floor thinking about it now and sob. shit its all got too much. she needs to be back with her mummy, its just too sad

skay · 15/05/2007 15:54

The glass eye was a party trick.

He used to make it pop out of its socket.

EEUUWWWW!

mumemma · 15/05/2007 15:57

Stigaloid - apologies for the creepy references, I admit that's not very fair as I am calling the uncle creepy and he's not even a suspect! Will try and stick to news updates which is really what we all want.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 15/05/2007 15:58

After being named as a suspect in Portugal, nothing further can happen until the Plice have sufficient evidence to go before an court which is their version of an arrest. So I guess being named as suspect there (a formal procedure btw) is equivalent to arrest here, arrest to being charged?

Sorry if thats a repeat of anything

mumemma · 15/05/2007 16:05

The Police are making a statement at 6pm.

PinkChick · 15/05/2007 16:08

any indication as to what they will be saying?

Stigaloid · 15/05/2007 16:11

Mumemma - i'm not having a go at you per se so please don't think i am. I just get a little frustrated by media hype which detracts from the focus of the girl and her parents. I can understand after 11 days that the media will want to start looking at other aspects of following this story and as it is front page news everyone will want to talk about it.

i just hope that they find the little girl and that people have paid attention to the 'Look into my eyes' campaign and that she is found safe and well soon.

noddyholder · 15/05/2007 16:14

The fact that this man has a glass eye is so irrelevant it is making me so cross seeing the media turn this into the circus that the general public seem to want. Why can't anyone just stick to the facts?

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 16:25

I can't help thinking this guy is a complete red herring to the investigation. My gut feel is that he is a local guy who, because he lived close to where this all ,has got very involved, 'bragged' a bit and subsequently got 'stung'.

The only thing that sounds like he COULD be linked is the fact that someone on this thread has said that it was reported somewhere that his girlfriend and her ex matched the description of those caught on CCTV at the petrol station the night she disappeared. I thought some reports ALSO said that a girl matching Madeleine's description was with the couple at the petrol station who were caught on CCTV. Is this right? I can't find ANY references linking the blonde woman on the CCTV to Murat's girlfriend.

paulaplumpbottom · 15/05/2007 16:28

I think so to, Just someone who wanted attention

PeachyChocolateEClair · 15/05/2007 16:31

Because of the way the Portugese Police operates we have no way of knowing what is happening and what evidence there is or is not on this man, who is presumed innocnet atm in our country

However I can categorically state the presence or alck of a glass eye will not feature heavily in a court case

PinkChick · 15/05/2007 16:34

i dont think the statement at 6pm will have much in the way of news, i think they will just confirm he has been/or chosen to be classed as a suspect.
if he is under suspicion and he is roaming free, they will want him to take him to her inadvertantly.
hopefully they will be tracing back his footsteps over last 12 days and getting info from his mobile phone/landline, find out who he has spoken to met with etc..and i am sure they will be doing all this and more.

nailpolish · 15/05/2007 16:35

im sure hes not "roaming free" - instead hes probably hiding at his girlfriends away from prying cameras and bloodthirsty mirror journalists

sarahinphuket · 15/05/2007 16:36

JennyJJ - wasn't there a blonde woman seen lurking outside the apartment on the night Madeleine disappeared?

Also I thought that Murat, his gf and her ex=h ALL fitted the descriptions of the three seen at the police station, and the ex-h fitted descriptions of the bloke who was taking photos of children at the beach....? or am I totally confused?

PinkChick · 15/05/2007 16:38

i cant actually find anything about his gf and exh yet?

sarahinphuket · 15/05/2007 16:39

hang opn let me see if I can find what i was just reading. It might have been in the Telegraph online

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 16:44

If you read here in the daily mail it has alot of information how true this all is only time will tell

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 16:54

according to 5 live the police have stated that robert Murat did not voluntarily make himself a suspect but that he was made a suspect as a result of investigations.

JoolsToo · 15/05/2007 16:57

haven't read this thread so don't know if this has been mentioned but...

There was an ex-Scotland Yard bloke on (can't remember his name) who had been quoted as saying that he's met Murat in Portugal and thought him suspicious.

Half of that is true - he met him. He did NOT think he was suspicious

JennyJJ · 15/05/2007 16:59

Seems the Daily Mail has access to a lot of extra 'information'! Perhaps they are putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5!!

mosschops30 · 15/05/2007 17:01

The Daily Mail - such a reliable source of information ...........NOT!

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 17:02

Oh so sorry it is not the telegraph or something ladies
