Daily Mail has an update - apologies if this is a repeat of any earlier news. I had not seen anything previously about who the other people being questioned actually were and had also not seen anything about the link with the people in the petrol station:

"Police took away a computer, video tapes and blankets from Robert Murat's villa which they are searching.

Mr Murat, 33, his girlfriend and a colleague were questioned by police for several hours yesterday. His girlfriend was named locally as Michaela Walczuch, a German, and the other man was identified as her former husband Luis Antonio.

Descriptions of Ms Walczuch, a blonde, and her ex-husband match those of a couple caught on CCTV at a nearby petrol station shortly after Madeleine's disappearance.

Ms Walczuch, an estate agent, had recently set up a website with Mr Murat to sell property over the internet. The three were all released early today. Police said there were no charges "at this stage". It comes amid reports on Portuguese television that suspected paedophile images have been found at Mr Murat's home."

I thought the people at the petrol station had been completely ruled out. If not it all makes sence.

PinkChick · 15/05/2007 15:10

no girl friend was ever mentioned yet was there? and her exH???, maybe(once again) i may be reading this wrongly

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 15:10

Scooby Doo?

PinkChick · 15/05/2007 15:11

think i caught mark warner at start but lost from there???

BigPantsRule · 15/05/2007 15:13

Quote copied verbatim from the Jacinto Murat website (English translation):

"Lagos is one of Portugal best place's for an holiday"

I would have thought that someone who works as a professional interpreter and has English as his mother tongue would not tolerate this and many other howlers in the translation of his own business website. Maybe this is another person with the same name. Is Murat a common name in Portugal, I wonder? Or perhaps Mr Murat is not quite such an accomplished linguist as he would have everyone believe?

ChocolateFace · 15/05/2007 15:14

Oooh we're a right bunch of private eyes, aren't we.

oliveoil · 15/05/2007 15:15

oh yes

BigPantsRule · 15/05/2007 15:20

Just making the point that there might be some poor individual with the same name and a long-established business, who is now getting hate mail on his website...

Robert Murat's real estate business interests seem to be in partnership with his girlfriend, according to the Mail report. Haven't found that site yet though.

scatterbrain · 15/05/2007 15:22

Sorry to speculate here - but this is really bugging me !!

Could it be possible that Robert Murat took Madeleine to the Uk using his own daughter;s passport ??

Why I have no idea - but it could be poss ?? I presume passport control would have checked coz they scan/barcodes of all passports now dont they ?

mumemma · 15/05/2007 15:23

It's Romigen - www.romigen.com - their names are not on there but there was a link saying they are the contacts for the company.

tiredemma · 15/05/2007 15:26

Murat is a portugese name- his father is portugese.

Im assuming therefore that there maybe other men in portugal with that name.

mumemma · 15/05/2007 15:30

Jacinto-Murat has been established since 1974 which makes it reasonably unlikely that it's Robert Murat's business.

Stigaloid · 15/05/2007 15:30

Have to say i find the vilification of a man who has not been found guilty pretty sickening. Similar to that man who was accused of killing those prostitutes in Ipswich who was found to be innocent. He'd had his life dragged up for public consumption before being found innocent and no one seemed to care that they had ruined his life on mere speculation.

Surely the focus should remain on the family and finding the little girl rather than creating speculation on a man who has not been arrested or convicted of a crime?

littlemissbossy · 15/05/2007 15:33

The Jacino part of the business may have been established in 1974
BTW Murats uncle runs a hotel a few miles down the coast...

Agree Stigaloid. I watched a bit of sky news last night and I nearly choked over my ovaltine when the reporter said he had always thought this guy was strange because he has a glass eye. WTF is that about?

By the way, Gordon Brown has a glass eye.

ScoobyDooooo · 15/05/2007 15:37

I am so sorry, i left the pc on & ds has obviously decided to join in

mumemma · 15/05/2007 15:38

Is that the uncle that was interviewed on TV? Shouldn't say this, I know, but I found him quite creepy. My DH did too.

Stigaloid - I do know what you mean and I think we are doing it in the absence of anyone else, particularly as it's being linked back to the previous events, petrol station, etc. However, I do find it odd that anyone wants to get so involved with police investigations like this.

I hope that if he is innocent, that the police actually move on and don't waste any more time.

Wolfgirl · 15/05/2007 15:42

Scoob - LOL - good contribution! will make a good reporter some day!

littlemissbossy · 15/05/2007 15:42

Didn't see the uncle on sky but he has been quoted in the press

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 15:43

From what I?ve heard on bbc, all this ?naming as suspect and then being released? sounds a bit like when someone is arrested and then released on police bale pending further enquiries. No indication what so ever of any guilt of anything. I wonder if a language barrier is, to some extent, adding to the whole speculation of guilt/innocence.

Leander · 15/05/2007 15:44

Scatterbrain- i had that thought too.

Stigaloid · 15/05/2007 15:46

I just think the press vilify innocent people to whip up a media frenzy and get people discussing it, like on here looking up websites and speculating etc, on little to no substance. Do they are when they get it wrong? No. Does it matter that an innocent until proven guilty person has had their life dissected by strangers who call him 'creepy' etc? No. It's all gossip and not particularly helpful to the situation IMO.
