For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

• police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
• they have an e-fit of him
• also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
• reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

Under Portugese law you can delcare yourself a suspect.

If he turns out to be innocent I feel really sorry for him...

sky are saying it is Robert Murat but there breaking news from police did not name anyone.

and his family. I imagine his ex wife/child have been removed to protect them from the media.

and it doesn't really matter if they've got a suspect does it? They haven't found Madeleine so it's all irelevant.

well obviously the suspect could lead the police to her so of course it's significant

A newspaper saying they have inside police information say the police believe Madeleine is alive and that they've been really careful to make the suspect feel relaxed and not threatened so he wouldn't hurt her.
May not be true but it's a little bit of hope... Due to the secrecy law newspapers tend to be quite well connected in the police.

He is still released though and staying with a friend. I not sure this will lead to her. If he had any idea where she was surely he would have been formally arrested and in questionning ?

dear god plase let this be coming to a happy end!, Madeleine could be anywhere, in any number of hosues he 'works' with being in real state business, they have taken his computor and apparently they have been lectronically(phone tap?) watching him all week??..please god let her be found safe and unharmed.

I really feel for her family, this is a horriable thing that can happen to anyone. My thoughts are with them x

have they let him go in the hope he leads them too her?, would he do that?knowing they will be watching him?

The official news agency (the equivalent to reuters) confirms a man has been accused. They don't say who but I don't think there's much doubt....

accused?, so does that mean he is back in custody? and accused of what? abduction??

his daughter is being called Sofia by the Mirror. Is she really called Madeleine?

They don't say. But apparentely he's not in custody.... Strange isn't it? I don't know. I mean you can be accused of something minor and obviously not be arrested.... Maybe it's the case? Or maybe they want him to lead them to her.... somehow.
Again, I'm very confident they know what they're doing.

why do we need to know what his daughter is called? that's not relevant - even if she's called Madeleine it's a common name.

now he is formally a suspect they can restrict his movements apparently.

if he's been accused it could be any number of things. if, as tuga pointed out earlier, pictures were found on his computer it could simply be that he's been accused of possessing indecent images of children and may not even be related to this case...

and now that he's formally a suspect and it's all over the news anyone who he might have had contact with has been alerted to the fact that Robert Murat is a suspect... yeh, great reporting that, esp considering Madeleine hasn't actually been found...

I said I read ina portuguese newspaper his daughter is called MAdeleine. May be wrong.

apparantly for the police to make an arrest they have to apply for a court order ?
