I am so worried about this little girl, but can't always find out on the tv, so I thought I would start this, as the thread is talking about stuff, I just want the latest updates please. If this offends anyone I am sorry, but I want to know the updates on this case.

was it the clothes Maddie had on?, i cant find it?

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 15:28

I half saw it - and THOUGHT they were showing pyjamas like the ones Madeleine was wearing rather than her actual PJs.

tiredemma · 09/05/2007 15:30

If they were MAdelines Pj's - I highly doubt that a police officer would be strolling around the street with them. I would imagine- for Forensic reasons, they would be bagged up.

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 15:34

No - I think I'm wrong - SKY news just said that Portuguese police have just recovered ANOTHER item of children's clothing - but cannot say whether they are Madeleines' or not.

Mark Warner are doing a press conference at 4pm on sky news

LaCerbiatta · 09/05/2007 15:52

This must be the first time in mumsnet history when posters are 100% restricted to the thread title, no deviations whatsoever. Thank God we have Petronella, Enid, Scatterbrain and everyone else to keep us on track. Otherwise we could, God forbid, discuss the developments instead of just posting them.... this would be incredibly irresponsible and unhelpful, as opposed to a strictly developments thread that would really help bring Madeleine back and the family cope

allgonebellyup · 09/05/2007 15:53

Just want to add that frequently in poorer 3rd world countries,(and especially after the Boxing Day tsunami) children are snatched and taken from their families to be sold overseas for traffiking etc, and yet nobody ever mentions this.. does this week's horrible snatching of a child seem worse as its a British child????

ekra · 09/05/2007 16:00

"None of it means anything unless that little one ends up back with where she should be. In some ways, it feels as though this is being followed like its some kind of soap opera plot. We, the public, do not need to know every bit of the police's investigation - it doesnt concern us so why should we? Surely the outcome is all the matters."

ITA.

People need to be getting on with their own lives. Some people seem to have taken leave of reality. This is someone else's real life. It's totally inappropriate to sit on your computer all day making up scenario and plot lines as if this were a soap opera or crime series Go and spend some time with your own children.

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 16:02

Statement from parents via Mark Warner just on Sky News - they want her to be called Madeleine, channelling all efforts and emotions into finding her, they remain positive and thank everyone fro their efforts.

minkybiscuit · 09/05/2007 16:03

Petronella, I'm sure I dont need to clarify my point re speculation - yes, it does seem to pass time on quite nicely for lots of MNrs - but it's totally non-productive, clearly.

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 16:04

This thread is not meant to be "helping the parenst" - how could it ? how ridiculous ! It is for people who cannot hear/see news to keep up to date with developments.

If you don't like it tough !

minkybiscuit · 09/05/2007 16:08

Exactly - and there is NO NEWS

LaCerbiatta · 09/05/2007 16:08

I actually agree in a way Ekra, but it's interesting that it is precisely the fact that people want to follow the story as if it was a soap opera that is bringing all the criticism on the portuguese police secretism. The media is frustrated with the lack of information because they don't have a plot for their soap opera, they have to speculate.

We are all really feeling for the parents and really really hoping that the poor girl is returned well but in a very voyeuristic sort of way I think.

fifisworld · 09/05/2007 16:08

Theyve just said that the clothes that were found were not really simalar to the ones madeline had on but i think they are checking them anyway just incase.

PORTUGAL
Video tape may show missing Maddie

Wed, 09 May 2007
Have you heard anything about this in the UK news? see below

_
Video from a petrol station surveillance camera depicts a girl who resembles a three-year-old British national who disappeared in Portugal's southern Algarve region, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

A recording from the petrol station along a highway in Lagos shows a girl accompanied by a woman behaving strangely, according to Diario de Noticias newspaper, which cited employees.

Police have not commented on the report and have been tight-lipped on many details of the investigation into the suspected kidnapping of Madeleine "Maddie" McCann, who turns four on Saturday.

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 16:14

That IS news ! No mention of it here !

quietmouse · 09/05/2007 16:15

wow, now that sounds promising.

Please god let it be her!

thedogsbollox · 09/05/2007 16:15

Enid - no she was making the point in a sarcastic tone that keeping the thread strictly to news updates was not going to do any more to bring the child back or help the family, than if it were 'allowed' to deviate.

I find the use of the word 'freak' unnecessary and just because Cod has apparantly been asked not to use it on the boards doesn't mean a space has been vaccated for others to!

LaBoheme · 09/05/2007 16:16

allgone your comment is utterly cynical - of course any child deaths/disappearances are tragic, what on earth are you trying to say?

sarahinphuket · 09/05/2007 16:16

here is the link then (I hope)

PinkChick · 09/05/2007 16:17

fingers crossed and hopefully if it is Madeleine they can pick up car number plate and trace?

Enid · 09/05/2007 16:17

Oh I didnt understand and apologise

will await telling off from mumsent towers

LaCerbiatta · 09/05/2007 16:20

Sorry, I thought the sceptical emoticon was clear in showing my irony. I'm not a native speaker so maybe can't express myself as clearly as I would want to.
I meant that some people, including you Enid, are always saying that discussing the news and speculating is unhelpful. However I think that the purpose of this thread is not to be helpful in anyway, people are just talking about it because it's in the news all the time and we're all really hoping for the best and wanting to share our thoughts and concerns with each other. The argument that it doesn't help the family doesn't make any sense imo.

Please don't you say that you think a thread strictly with developments would help the family cope.... I would find that quite freakish myself....

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 16:22

Enough already !

LaCerbiatta · 09/05/2007 16:24

Yes, the petrol station camera is in the news in portugal. Apparently a woman made a child say 'thank you' in portuguese and it looked awkward... Let's hope it leads to something, but my guess is that it will be a false alarm like yesterday....
