I am so worried about this little girl, but can't always find out on the tv, so I thought I would start this, as the thread is talking about stuff, I just want the latest updates please. If this offends anyone I am sorry, but I want to know the updates on this case.

Scatterbrain - I want to agree with you about the one link because I don't think that we ought to scaremonger and unfortunately we live in world where we can all imagine different scenarios without any direction from the media.

Nonetheless, if a more sinister option is a possibility it does need to be brought to people's attention SOMEHOW because everyone needs to pay extra attention to anyone that might be behaving suspiciously and report it (and I stress that I am not condoning any vigilanti -type behaviour).

To those who don't like that these discussions take place, I reiterate my previous point:

"Speculation is not necessarily a dirty word. In some circumstances, speculation can lead to new ideas and new leads about what has happened and might compel people to come forward with information that they previously had not thought would be important."

and
"People talk about events that happen to other people because we are human; we are capable of empathy and of sharing feelings, emotions and information.

Some people feel that by expressing their concern, their worries and their condemnation that they are uniting with others. If this is not for you, then simply do not contribute."

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 18:34

Sorry - I mistyped there - didn't mean to type "links" meant "reference to" - sorry !

mommajools · 09/05/2007 18:41

well said Rantum
that link lead to another link that stated the boy Rui had been spotted at Disneyland Paris a year after his abduction and a photo taken so even though his case was evil he was still alive.

ChocolateFace · 09/05/2007 18:44

I know this thread is only for news updates, but I'm really worried this may become yesterdays news. Do we as mothers have a responsablity to keep this as head ine news for as long as it takes? This is not a rhetorical question.

DrNortherner · 09/05/2007 19:09

Blimey, the thread police are out in force tonight aren't they?

People are discussing this in RL, in the playground, in my office, in and around town. It happenned in the case of the soham murders too. It's not wrong nor right imo.

No one is doing anything wrong, even the police I'm sure are discussing possible options of where she may be.

Implying that folk who are discussing this have nothing better to do and suggessting they spend time from their kids is pretty condascending imo, especially when it comes from a few prolific posters.

Drawing lines under threads is my pet hate (OLive knows all about that )

oliveoil · 09/05/2007 20:19

well if I want updates I go on the bbc site or flick on sky news

not that I want any updates unless it states FOUND ALIVE

for Northerner___

quietmouse · 09/05/2007 20:25

ok, you do that oliveoil, and leave the rest of us who are finding this thread useful to it

mommajools · 09/05/2007 20:28

we dont all have access to BBC or sky all the time - when my kids are home they want to watch their programmes so mumsnet helps in being th place for udates.
Trolls like Enid who try to turn the dicussion into an arguement or try to dictate what others can talk about is not worth bothering about - just ignore them - there are plenty of other threads they can go on or try to stir up trouble.

oliveoil · 09/05/2007 20:28

fine, but I fail to see how useful discussing paedophile sites and agonising over things is helping anybody at all tbh

and it is hard to ignore threads with MADELINE and millions of posts on them as they are never out of sodding Active Convo

LucyJones · 09/05/2007 20:29

mommajools - if you can Mumsnet you can access the BBC website surely?
And at Enid being a troll, are you new?

mommajools · 09/05/2007 20:29

dont click on them then Olive!!!
Simple!

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 20:30

Enid's not a troll !!

oliveoil · 09/05/2007 20:30

trolls like Enid??? ROFL

if you are on MN you can just as easy go on BBC

NKF · 09/05/2007 20:31

How does it help? Genuine question here. Not the parents obviously. Nor the police. So presumably posting helps the posters. I'm really curious to understand in what way.

UCM · 09/05/2007 20:33

My pc is very very slow though, so if I come off mn and go on the beeb, it takes ages.

Also as someone mentioned earlier, MN can be faster than all of them, so we will get to know the good news very very very fast.

Anyway I wish everyone would stop rowing over it.

Enid came on treads telling people to STOP.
and trying to create arguements. She was told reapeatedley not to post if she did not like the thread title but kept coming back.
There are plenty of other threads for her to post on or to create her own topics. She and others came on to bully other people who wanted to talk on this thread and to my opinion that is disgusting, imtimidating and childish.

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 20:36

But how is her telling you to stop any differenet from you telling her to stop ! It doesn't work like that I'm afraid !

And she certainly is not a troll !

this is a forum for discussion... just cos someone says only talk about this on a thread doesn't mean it has to happen. Enid is entitled to post what she likes unless it goes against Mumsnet phiosophy.

LucyJones · 09/05/2007 20:39

philosophy

mommajools · 09/05/2007 20:41

NKE = you asked how it helps - it doesn't help the family directly involved but everyone has the W's in their mind - , WHEN did she exactly go WHY did it happen, Where is she, WHO is she with, WHAT reason did they tak her for..
It is a topic in the news - we are all parents, we have all holidayed abroad and we are vigilant and worry about our childs safety so for this to happen - near to home - it has raised the empathy in a lot of mothers and we all want answers and we all hope and pray she is found alive and reunited with her mummy and daddy

scatterbrain · 09/05/2007 20:43

Yes but we don't all need someone giving ghoulish details and endlessly hypothesising about what is happening to Madeleine. We all have eyes and ears and imaginations !

Don't exepect everyone to suddemly strat agreeing with you - coz it ain't gonna happen !

NKF · 09/05/2007 20:45

Mommajools - that I understand. And I think the candle/good wishes thread is very touching. What I don't understand about this thread is why people post highly speculative news stories about the awful things that may have happened to the child. Or why someone might find another story about another abducted child and then post that. Isn't it just distressing for you all?
