News Updates only please on Madeleine McCann.....

I am so worried about this little girl, but can't always find out on the tv, so I thought I would start this, as the thread is talking about stuff, I just want the latest updates please. If this offends anyone I am sorry, but I want to know the updates on this case.

there was news at 5.15pm about several sightings of a balding man with an english girl of her description in a northern town Nalad and they had put road blocks around then there was a news conference at 6.30pm - this was pressure from the British interest to do so - it was chaotic but there were no developments and it was a false alarm. They could not give out any news due to their laws

I got so excited that they had found her at about 18.30 from reading on here. But it turned out to be a false alarm.

Were George Burke or his sighting ever investigated? that seemed very strong info. to me.

I fear though that if this thread is for "news updates" only that it will drop to the bottom of the list fairly quickly as reality is that there are no updates, and will be no updates until she is found. Because even the police "updates" are saying nothing, and everything else, ie apparent sightings/links to paedophile rings etc are generally based on speculation and nothing else. plus the other thread is nearly at 1000 posts so will be closed soon, and it would be far more tasteless to start a thread purely to speculate, than to talk on a news thread IMO, because regardless of the fact some don't want this talked about, some do want to talk about it.

Not slating the idea of a news updates only thread btw just my opinion

it doesn't matter if this thread drops to the bottom most of the time as those of us who wish to know the outcome can put it on watched threads and pick it up when there is news.

I would also like to hear of news - and just the news. I check the bbc website sometimes but mumsnet can be faster.

can't understand why there's no report of sniffer dogs at least checking out the area where George Burke saw a couple carrying a child ..& him too of course. scents go cold , why aren't they checking?

GMTV says the road leads to Lagos Marina or the train station, would think it unlikely they'd risk the train but the marina and boats should be sniffed out if poss.

As a port of entry/exit there should be some sort of harbour control plus the fact that boat owners tend to talk to each other. (would sniffer dogs be routinely used to tackle drug smuggling in these ports? can they be used to detect other scents?)

Internet gives sailing times varying from 3 hrs to 6 days for first port of call either direction on the Portugese coast, are these ports on alert.

Would also alert shopkeepers to people buying supplies for a 3 yr old ,(clothes, food etc) especially if they never see the people in question in company of a child.

GMTV says the family were the first to alert british media almost 12 hrs later because Portugese authorities were not taking possible abduction seriously. wtf

doyouwantfrieswiththat - why are you not there! I hope they have done all that but no evidence or talk about it. Maybe like they say they dont want to jepardise anything.
I am sure they are doing it all but it would be nice to know would'nt it.
Its so frustrating and sicking to the stomach to imagine how her parents are feeling.
Must be hard with the language barrier etc.
Really wish there were things we could do!

according to the portuguese press, the only police line of enquiry now is that madeleine was

kidnapped to order

by a paedophile ring.

What an awful article. That poor mother it references whose son was kidnapped and she has since seen images of him on paedophile websites. My god. As a mother I wonder what is worse - knowing your child is being systematically abused or believing they are dead. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Omg i hope they find her. How does that boy's mother cope. It seems bizarre in this day and age that she knows he's still alive but he can't be found.

think as a mother I would rather know my child was dead than going through that. Think it's one thing to believe that your child had been abducted to be sold to a desperate childless couple, at least you would be fairly sure that he/she would be loved and much wanted, but the alternatives ... I wouldn't even want to think about them.

Hi all. This whole thing is heartbreaking. We're flying out to the Algarve Saturday, not far from where all this is happening. I'm not religious at all but am hoping to find a church nearby where I can light a candle for Madeleine and wish her safe.

My god i know her parents aren't being given much info but i'm not sure that i would want to know that this is their main lead! FGS why are people like that allowed to bloody walk this earth.

I actually think that it would take an incredibly brave mother to go looking on such sites in the ... i dunnow, I guess part would hope your child wasn't there but part might so as to confirm they were alive ... so difficult... I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

I can not comprehend that a mother can see pic's of her son on peadophile sites and yet no one can find him. How is this allowed to go on?

I am praying for a conclusion to the McCan's anguish ASAP, otherwise I fear for the parents sanity.
