We can discuss parenting styles in a few weeks

when, nm? i think you were reading the name...

expatinscotland · 05/05/2007 22:16

It's a website. A big, public one.

There's a range of views and feelings which of course may strike a user as usual, strange, distasteful, etc.

Either you find a way to deal with that or perhaps look elsewhere.

But in that sense this site is a microcosym of society.

Horses for courses.

NuttyMuffins · 05/05/2007 22:17

I am not interested in arguing with you Aitch. I logged on this am to see if there was any good news, I didn't expect to have to defend my self for wanting to know if the little girl was yet safe.

This is MN though, I should have guessed.

My list of what can not be discussed on here grows longer yet again.

AitchTwoOh · 05/05/2007 22:18

you're being pretty petulant i think, nm.

NuttyMuffins · 05/05/2007 22:19

Really ? well I don't care much for your opinion so I won't lose sleep over it.

AitchTwoOh · 05/05/2007 22:21

lol.

i want to know if the wee girl is safe, too, you know... but coming on here and banging on about how much i feel for the family isn't going to change anything.

expatinscotland · 05/05/2007 22:22

I'm wringing my hands over those lovely vanilla slice refrigerated biscuits I stayed up past midnight making and DH burned most of them.

quietmouse · 05/05/2007 22:22

so, is this thread being closed then by some of the posters here?

so no more from anyone until the little girl is found - is that how it works?

AitchTwoOh · 05/05/2007 22:23

ouch!

AitchTwoOh · 05/05/2007 22:24

no, it's not being closed AT ALL. god, why is everyone so tetchy round here?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 05/05/2007 22:24

have to say I'm not hopeful of a positive outcome to this now. this morning when they said they believed she was still alive it sounded almost as if they were within sight of her. but they just said on news24 that the police cancelled a news conference planned for this evening because there have been no developments. that's not positive news IMO.

oliveoil · 05/05/2007 22:29

if one more person says they feel sick, I feel I may be

NotanOtter · 05/05/2007 22:29

i think they are in negotiations with abducter

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 05/05/2007 22:32

hmm NAO didn't sound like it. they said the search was still ongoing, even said it had widened to past some road that led out of the village or something. said every empty villa/apartment had to be searched, plus derelect buildings/wasteland. surely if they were in negotiations they would have at least been able to say with certainty that she was ok, but they only said that they "believed" she was.

NKF · 05/05/2007 22:33

Hah, Oliveoil. If one more person says their daughter looks like the abducted child, I will definitely be sick. Particularly if they then call it empathy.

makkapakka · 05/05/2007 22:34

think they keep saying they think she is OK as a tactic to not panic abductor into harming her.

quietmouse · 05/05/2007 22:35

I feel sick and yes, she looks like my dd.

Better all go be sick then

NKF · 05/05/2007 22:36

You didn't claim it to be an example of empathy though. That's the vomit clincher for me.

Gameboy · 05/05/2007 22:36

wannabe - you don't seriously believe that the world's media is being 'kept updated' with what's eactly happening do you??

Like NAO says, they may well be in discussions with the abductor, OR they may have cancelled the news conference in the belief that an abductor may think they are 'off the scent' and e.g. make a move by road etc (where they may hopefully be intercepted).

Who knows? I can guarantee it is not what's being reported though...

totaleclipse · 05/05/2007 22:36

I do think the authorities know more than they are saying, Just hope whatever it is it is hopeful.

NKF · 05/05/2007 22:37

I think we can confidently assume that pretty much everything much we are being told is released with the police investigation rather than public interest uppermost. I hope so anyway.

Gameboy · 05/05/2007 22:39

Absolutely NKF...

quietmouse · 05/05/2007 22:39

and I am supposed to care, am I NKF? I am not concerned with your vomiting. I am only concerned with how that little girl is tonight.

AitchTwoOh · 05/05/2007 22:39

i hope so too NKF.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 05/05/2007 22:40

I do find it bizarre that people talk about this almost as if it's them who are going through it. like expat, could never understand the whole outpouring of grief for Dianna either. but when I was doing counselling training we talked about grief and the tutor explained that a lot of public grief has to do with people dealing with their own grief that they have perhaps previously experienced but have never felt they were able to express publically, and that a public death, if you could call it that, is often a good outlet for peoples' personal grief. that it's not really dianna they were grieving for iyswim.

I too don't want to see the parents. I've deliberately turned over when their statements have come on because I don't want to see it. I'm interested to hear whether there have been developments but their anguish is theirs and its private and shouldn't be portrayed in the media.
