Has everyone seen this Staff At Maddy Resort 'Were Warned Of Suspicious Man' (reported in a few newspapers online today)

lisad123 · 08/05/2007 20:28

I keep checking but so sad shes still missing
Poor child, its just scarcy to think he/she might have been watching the families for a few nights. Adults went out every night leaving the 8 children in bed. I hope they find her soon

LilyLoo · 08/05/2007 20:38

So sad that was a false alarm. Franch we saw that earlier. I am that staff were alerted to this and yet holiday makers weren't aware of it.

toomuchtodo · 08/05/2007 20:43

lisa what do you mean "leaving 8 children in bed"?

I thought there was only 3 in that room?

Do you mean more children were left in the room sleeping alone elsewhere?

Judy1234 · 08/05/2007 20:55

Loads of people on those kinds of holidays leave their children near by and eat. I've often done it and I'd do it again next week. It's safe and normal.

CoteDAzur · 08/05/2007 20:58

"Normal"? Sure. "Safe"?

It might be a 0.001% probability of bad outcome, but not one I will be taking anytime soon.

quietmouse · 08/05/2007 21:00

I have been completely put off going abroad tbh

dinny · 08/05/2007 21:02

disagree totally, Xenia - not everyone thiks it is safe and normal to do so.

NKF · 08/05/2007 21:04

I haven't been able to picture exactly what people mean by eating out on a Mark Warner holiday and the apartment being nearby. Does the restaurant belong to Mark Warner? Is Mark Warner a sort of campus affair and that's why it feels safe?

Dottydot · 08/05/2007 21:05

(please - let's not get into what we think is right/wrong/OK/not OK).

toomuchtodo · 08/05/2007 21:07

that link saying a strange man tried to make off with a pram is a bit reassuring, it sounds a bit like someone desperate to parent a child, rather than a paedophile.

know this sounds silly, but a desperate wannabe parent is better than the alternative

dinny · 08/05/2007 21:07

think a lot of MW are security-protected, campus-style, but this wasn't.

ScoobyDooooo · 08/05/2007 21:08

What link is that toomuchtoodo?

CoteDAzur · 08/05/2007 21:09

Just wanted to clarify that I was not judging the McCanns but only saying that it was not something that I would do.

As parents, we make such risk assessments every day. I have left DD in the car to go pay for the gas and felt that was safe. If anything happened, I am sure there would be many who would say they wouldn't have done that.

McCanns are obviously devoted parents. They made an assessment of the risk involved in leaving their kids in that room and felt the risk was very very small. I am sure that nobody here is blaming the parents for the disappearance of Madeleine.

The women (amanda mills) who said she saw a man acting susiciously at the beginning of april i wonder if she can remeber what he looked like & if she was able to give the portugese police any idea of what this person looked like?

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 21:12

oh for goodness sake the record has got stuck - start a different thread if youwant,. This one is not the place

LIZS · 08/05/2007 21:12

Something like that NKF. MW lease a number of apartments in various areas of the complex , the others are privately owned or similarly leased out. MW then operates its various kids clubs and activities within the complex. I'd imagine that the restaurants and bars are available to all guests staying there but with a dine-around type arrangement for tour operators (ie some sort of voucher system or reservations for meals for their guests)so their guests can choose where to eat. This MW resort seems unusual in that it isn't as self contained and exclusive as others and operates a creche for the evening rather than a baby listening service. For some reason these families appear not to have used it on this occasion.

totaleclipse · 08/05/2007 21:14

I dont think that report is connected, trying to walk of with a pram seems random, a lucky oppotunity if you like, with no real plans where he was going to take it, where maddie's abduction seems calculated and planned.

ScoobyDooooo · 08/05/2007 21:17

Sorry i missed it, she has given the details but obviously does not want to disclose them to the public in fear of anything more.

I also think that this family have been wathed & that this is more planned & calculated than that.

jellybeans · 08/05/2007 21:30

I am so hoping she is found soon. Can't stop thinking about it The poor parents. The only person at fault is the person who took Madeleine. This has brought back memories of the little girl (Leoni Keating) taken from the caravan park, about 1983, her mum had gone out I think but not sure. I agree with whoever said that a determind person watching could have crept in while the family was asleep. I am so hoping she is found soon and that it is a desperate childless couple looking after her.

TeeJaye · 08/05/2007 22:00

Angry Portuguese ask why couple left the children alone

quietmouse · 08/05/2007 22:02

very unfair and unhelpful imo

if i think of this poor little girl i just burst in to tears, and i havent stopped thinking about her all day. i find incredible traumatic. and the horrible thoughts as to what might happen or has happened , its stuff i hate to think exists. how on earth does one carry on with this..she could be somewhere now..and i find that so upseetting.
it just breaks my heart for them.
