We can discuss parenting styles in a few weeks

OP posts:
ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 17:32

yes BBC

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:34

yes it was reported on 5 live about 5 minutes ago. but just saying that they were getting reports from portuguese tv... so still not confirmed reports iyswim.

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:36

strange just called mil and it's not on tv, not on the public channels anyway....

LIZS · 08/05/2007 17:37

I hope they find her soon , and that this comes to something positive. Also that when there is news, of whatever outcome, her parents and family hear it exclusively first and not via the media who seem deadset on preempting anything the police might say or do .

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:42

is it possible it's not on portuguese tv so as not to alert anyone - i mean he could walk past a tv shop and see that police are closing in ... iyswim.

lizs agree that the parents should be told first and foremost.

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:42

no, its not on digital channels either....

geekgrrl · 08/05/2007 17:44

I find it really odd that there isn't anything about this in the media in other European countries - I had a look at the website of El Pais (biggest Spanish newspaper) and there wasn't anything at all.
Also nothing in the German papers (but they're having a lot of their own tragedies involving children at the mo )

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 17:45

they are looking for cctv forma supermarket and wil then show it to the parents - apparently

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 17:46

is it not on Portugese TV becasue theya re not allowed ot run it

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:48

local news block perhaps? and although portuguese media are aware they're not allowed to report locally but can pass to bbc/sky etc?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:49

im not so sure it would have been so widely reported here either though if it wasn't an english child. I googled missing child the other day and came up with several, a young girl missing in sidney, one in the US, a couple somewhere else yet nothing reported here. it's not as big a story to other countries because it's not their story iykwim

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:55

maybe... although i'd find it a bit hard to believe that the portuguese press would hold back...

LIZS · 08/05/2007 17:56

perhaps they could be sued for prejudicing a possible trial ?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:59

but if it's her, and they've got her, the media may not be allowed to report it until the parents have been told.

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 18:00

hasn't stopped them before
unfortunately they're not as respectful as here, or maybe they don't actually sue, only threat? I only know that information that should not be made public before a trial, for example, constantly leaks and the press have no problems in using it

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 18:01

anything new on sky news?

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 18:03

there'll be a press conference at 18h30m

ScoobyDooooo · 08/05/2007 18:04

Is this on the bbc?

mommajools · 08/05/2007 18:05

I think Sky news said it was being 'reported' by Portugese tv - which when I heard it I thought it was being shown on their tv but maybe it is just a report down the wire from them as it seems the portugese police dont/cant report on ongoing investigations for fear of jeapordising a case therefore the local tv crews are not permitted to film or anything?

mommajools · 08/05/2007 18:08

it was mentioned on BBC and Sky but we now have the simpsons on..
theres a news conference at 6.30pm and a special programme tonight with Treveor MacDonald I think

quadrophenia · 08/05/2007 18:09

please let it be good news

PeachyChocolateEClair · 08/05/2007 18:11

I will happily pray for that one

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 18:12

on 5 live news the report was that a man was seen with a child, in a car, driving away at high speed. also police have now confirmed that they are liaising with brittish police with regards to links with child sex rings.

LaBoheme · 08/05/2007 18:15

Had to add my two penneths worth on this thread. I think those who have essentially come on here and mocked other people's compassion for a family with whom they identify with and feel for, need to seriously check themselves. Comments like "if she were not pretty, middle class etc you would not feel the same way why aren't you grieving over mass starvation, infanticide" are callas and really show you ups for the cynical people you are at heart. I have not seen anything that resembles "competative grieving" just genuine concern. How utterly shallow. Stay away if compassion bothers you.
That is all.

mommajools · 08/05/2007 18:15

was this around the town of nelas? hope they have the helicopters tracking him.
please god its her and he is caught
