Erm in the words of this wannabe it is exactly what they have said not what i have said...

""British police are at the forefront of these types of investigations. The way the Portuguese police are handling it is rather like the British police would have done ten years ago," said Mr Williams-Thomas.

"They need the British police's expertise to help find Maddie and they need it now.

I am not saying this is what is being done, or this is what the portugese are saying i was just stating what had been written on this report & what the statement was called which if you read the top is " They need the british help now"

mommajools · 08/05/2007 17:18

it was breaking news on sky jsut now - it is a town in Northern Portugal.
Do hope it is Madeleine.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:19

ah fair enough scooby... where is this story about the town - can't find it on google,

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:19

Where did you here that mommajools? Nellas is not a portuguese name.... are you sure that was the town?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:19

do hope it is genuine - sky aren't exactly known for checking out news before they report it.

ScoobyDooooo · 08/05/2007 17:22

No i also agree about sky not always be great with there news i think the bbc are better.

I just pray something is happening.

scatterbrain · 08/05/2007 17:22

Nelas - north of Lisbon apparently - sealed off, man seen in supermarket with girl meeting Madeleine's description. They've road-blocked etc and are investigating now.

Sky reporting it off Portuguese TV

Everything crossed

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:23

bbc is the opposite though, take forever to check the news and then they're not breaking anymore! (can you tell i'm anxious?)

mommajools · 08/05/2007 17:23

sorry - its spelt Nelas - sky said it is being reported on Portugese tv, man with a english child of her description near a supermarket

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:23

and the only thing on the sky website is that some footballer has made a plea for her return - dear god do these people think that if the abductyor hasn't responded to the pleas of the parents they will be more likely to respond to the pleas of Christiano Ronaldo?

essbee · 08/05/2007 17:23

McDreamy · 08/05/2007 17:24

OMG please let it be her! Everything crossed.

McDreamy · 08/05/2007 17:25

I think they are prepared to try anything! If it works then carry

ScoobyDooooo · 08/05/2007 17:25

I just think they have done it because he is portugese & i suppose it is just showing extra support.

McDreamy · 08/05/2007 17:26

sorry should have read carry on (relating to the footballer appeal)

rumtum · 08/05/2007 17:26

I think anything must be worth a try at this stage. Lets hope and pray they find her.

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:26

I'm trying to call my mom (in portugal) but the bloody line is busy....

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:27

bbc have to double check sources though, and they're now reporting the same ... sorry heard that as I was typing.

when the bombings happened on 7/7 sky reported that 5 busses had been blown up and that two suspected suecide bombers had been shot in canary warf ... aalk about sensationalist reporting off the back of calls from the public...

ThatBeetroot · 08/05/2007 17:28

road blokes around a town in North Portugal as several people has reported seeing a man with a girl looking like Maddy

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:29

I do sooo hope that it's her. that appeal by her mum yesterday made me so and they keep playing it over and over on tv...

LaCerbiatta · 08/05/2007 17:30

Oh I do hope it's her!

(i know about the bbc, it's good to know that it's always reliable!)

Kaz33 · 08/05/2007 17:30

Please god let that be her.

Must admit that having seen all the details of the disappearance thought it was more opportunistic than planned - so more likely to still be in Portugal if that makes sense

mommajools · 08/05/2007 17:30

was that on the BBC beetroot about 'several' sightings?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 17:31

my dh has a friend who used to work for the bbc, and he'd sent him details of stories before they'd even broke, but now he's left - how dare he!
