footballers giving up pay for nurses!

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 09:45

started by west ham skipper, nigel reo-coker, premiership players have been asked to give up 1days pay in an appeal, mayday for nurses...

out of 556 premiership players, just 71 have signed up to this!

an average premiership wage is £12,300 per week... with some of the top clubs players earning up to £100,000 per week.

of the 4 top clubs (chelsea, liverpool, arsenal and man utd) only 4 players have signed up. chelsea and liverpool have no takers!

readigs entire squad have signed up.

their arrogance is something to be ahamed of!

I think some of the comments here are an insult to nurses

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 15:21

im a nurse and i dont feel insulted

maybe i should read it again

are youa nurse noddy?

noddyholder · 19/04/2007 15:28

No nailpolish but I depend on them alot

nailpolish · 19/04/2007 15:29

sorry for being thick, but exactly where does it say anything insulting on this thread?

noddyholder · 19/04/2007 15:32

I think comparing people who do a life and death job with burger flippers etc is insulting.

FlossALump · 19/04/2007 15:35

See I just feel that comments like that are derogatory towards people who do do jobs like that.

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 15:35

not so insulting to me a few comments did make me sad though!

in a kind of, why do i bother to care for the general public, when they so obviously don't care about me.... yes comparing my job to a burger flipper

OP posts:
noddyholder · 19/04/2007 15:36

I don't think there is any comparison and calling them burger flippers is an insult itself I agree but many people working in Macdonalds etc are students who whilst not stupid are not doing it as a career. No ones life depends on them

Mum2FunkyDude · 19/04/2007 15:37

if people didn't bet on anything and everything there would not be a market for over payed footballers.

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 15:37

we do need burger flippers, just don't say that they should have footballers campaigning for them to earn more money in the same way as nurses

Some jobs are more important /vital than others and that is a fact.I used to spend my days humouring rich old bats in their fancy houses spending hours choosing which curtains go with which wallpaper Fun and well paid but not important in the grand scheme of things.

nailpolish · 19/04/2007 15:39

but its a job

nurses are not the martyrs or angels or anything else the Sun/Mirror/Mail calls us

noddyholder · 19/04/2007 15:40

Will have to agree to disagree here.

nailpolish · 19/04/2007 15:41

noddy i do agree with you, honest i do

but i chose to be a nurse knowing what the wages are like

maybe i just dont like people feeling sorry for me

i am determined not to moan about my job! i think its perfect for childcare etc, i do nightshift for example and in that sense its brilliant

noddyholder · 19/04/2007 15:45

I don't feel sorry for you some of you are miserable old bats. But there are nurses who really go the extra mile and I don't mind them being given some sort of 'extra'bonus.I agree it is a job and you chose it x PS am very ill today and a bit short could do with a nurse!!!

FlossALump · 19/04/2007 15:46

i am determined not to moan about my job!#

NP - you'll love going back, I know you will. But I will give you 2 weeks to get cross with it all. I love my job but pretty much every shift something P's me right off, aggressive relatives shouting at me on Monday, yesterday lack of breaks for all of us while one member disspears to do 'non clinical' when we really still needed her.

nailpolish · 19/04/2007 15:46

i like my job

i was miserable a couple of years ago, had a 2 yr break but i missed the clinical stuff and now im enjoying it again

the miserable ones are the ones who get stuck in the dead end work, like everyting else i suppose

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 15:47

i don't want people to feel sorry for me either... i'm bloody proud to be a nurse!!!

but conditions are getting worse not better, lets not sit back and watch it happen because it's just a job

i care deeply about what i do

iv estarted back with doing bank in ITU - at least there the patients are unconscious and dont argue back

FlossALump · 19/04/2007 15:49

I have to say actually NP - I enjoy my job on the ward far more now than ITU, but I did spend a lot less time feeling p'd off!

nailpolish · 19/04/2007 15:52

i dont want to do bank forever tho - i want a permanent night post with fixed nights iyswim

just til dd2 is at school

but then waht do you do in school hols??????

bringmeashrubbery · 19/04/2007 15:56

well I have 'signed up' on the website. I hate football, but admire the intentions behind this campaign...

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 16:24

Yes, I hadn't done any research before commenting on this, if it's a one off for publicity that's quite a good idea
