footballers giving up pay for nurses!

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 09:45

started by west ham skipper, nigel reo-coker, premiership players have been asked to give up 1days pay in an appeal, mayday for nurses...

out of 556 premiership players, just 71 have signed up to this!

an average premiership wage is £12,300 per week... with some of the top clubs players earning up to £100,000 per week.

of the 4 top clubs (chelsea, liverpool, arsenal and man utd) only 4 players have signed up. chelsea and liverpool have no takers!

readigs entire squad have signed up.

their arrogance is something to be ahamed of!

in fact..

even if you can't sign up to it, pass it on to friend, so they can pass it on too!

i alaso work clinically in the nhs,its not only burses who are affected by this non payrise. As someone said earlier, we know what we get into when we take on this voscation (its not a job to me i love it but i hate what it is turning into thanks to Blair)
Another thing to consider is the type of people it would attract if apy was very good, ie people that are just doing it for the money and not the care.......
And if sarahlou, ita a choice to give to charity, its not compulsive, so i think you are being a little bit unreasonable.

hotbot · 19/04/2007 16:54

burses--???? of course nurses

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 17:14

sorry, i think you are mistaken... i did not post this in the aibu! and were not talking about not getting a pay rise.

i also said furher down i shouldn't have written the last line of my op

but i did i can't edit it now

so we know what we take on... yes... but it doesn't me we have to accept the conditions we work in

staff shortages mean unsafe practice

retention of nurses because their working in stressfull conditions

this is linked with money

but its also about raising awareness

and it turns out that no-one actually cares

'Another thing to consider is the type of people it would attract if apy was very good, ie people that are just doing it for the money and not the care....... '

eh ? So neurosurgeons, psychiatrists and other health professionals are only in it for the money then ?

bringmeashrubbery · 19/04/2007 17:21

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 17:24

SL
it's not that nobody cares, but it is a fact that for most people in the uk life can be a bit of a daily grind.

I think there are not that many people that don't have to worry about money.

We're not all premiership footballers or even doctors/accountants/solicitors/city workers/business people.

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 17:38

nope it's just the footballers being asked for money

the general public are just their o show they support

i didn't realise that earlier

i admit i started this only knowing little info, but i've read on since then

As a newly qualified I will earn £17000 apparently we are a 'sub d grade' even though I will have all the responsibility of an actual d grade And then it will rise very very slowly, my friends in other grad jobs on the other hand seen able to move up in pay more quickly.

Oh and I get nothing what so ever for my training, no busary at all.

But I don't know how I feel about this scheme although I do think nursing pay should be reviewed.

Smurfgirl · 19/04/2007 17:56

And nursing is a graduate profession - 3 years at uni, I will have a BSc and other graduate with the higher diploma. I sometimes think that this is fogotton.

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 18:00

agenda for change

that was our pay review

since that came in we have had to freeze recruitment

agency staff cannot be used - even if that means poor skill mix

bnk staff, if you can get them

why don't nurses seem to want this?????

are you martyrs, do you like the stress and poor patient care

i just don't understand this

nailpolish - at your careplan comment, I LOVE writing them from scratch, fabulous.

3andnomore · 19/04/2007 18:17

WBWIWB...how can you compare Nurses wage with Mac Donald Burger flipper wage...
you don't really need any/muhc training to become a Burgerflipper...however, you study 3 years to become a Nurse...

Saying that...not sure if I would feel angry at anyone not giving...in the end, I knew when I started Nursing, what I was in for, and that the pay wouldn't be the best....now, I do find the pay of top footy players rather overrated...of course they work hard physically, but well...I am not a footy fan, so really can't think of any reason for such a high pay, lol! But in the end, they can do wiht it what they want....and most probably just think that they are not reliant on the NHS anyway...I mean, they will all be private, right...

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 18:20

how about if that money goes to help a strugglig student nurse to pay her rent, in stead of leaving her training all together!!

i said i was gonna post here any more!!

OP posts:
StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 19/04/2007 18:26

No, still wouldn't agree. Instead I'd rather carry on campaigning to get the govt to pay an annual 10k bursary to all midwifery/nursing students.

saralou100 · 19/04/2007 18:51

but they are also doing that... their merely helping in the meantime
