I wasn't expecting that! Thought she was going to be the next Princess. Maybe the pressure was too much, they are very young.

Piffle - I think Camilla dumped Charles years ago as she had her eye on someone else but the official story was something about her being a Catholic whom the RF aren't allowed to marry (presumably shagging them is ok).

paulaplumpbottom · 16/04/2007 17:37

I agree Twoifbysea, Its open season now. Poor boy.

expatinscotland · 16/04/2007 20:33

Well, I don't feel sorry for them.

Sure, they can't help who they were born to, but it's not like they were born to Brazilian peasants, gang members or Chinese sweatshop workers.

That whole 'nobility' business sort of gets my drawers in a wad, FWIW, but people understand cuz I'm foreign.

paulaplumpbottom · 16/04/2007 22:36

Well I suppose I do feel a bit bad though, I mean even if he rejected his royal roots entirely and he became a brazilian peasant the press would still hound him.

homemama · 17/04/2007 10:38

All this talk of her being too common reminds me of how andrew was told the same about koo stark. So he went and married a woman who allowed herself to be photographed having her toes sucked by a man who was not her husband. Whereas, koo stark married a very nice man, became a SAHM and model citizen and always kept her mouth shut about their relationship.

You cannot breed dignity.

Enid · 17/04/2007 10:41

who carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrres

LieselVentouse · 17/04/2007 11:08

Absolutely and Diana was once labelled more royal than the royals (because of her heritage) and look what a trollop she turned out

Nightynight · 17/04/2007 13:07

exactly liesel - royal

I agree with homemamma as well though - and Enid too of course!

Greenleeves · 17/04/2007 13:09

LV De mortuis nil nisi bonum!!

Nightynight · 17/04/2007 13:10

I dont care that she was a trollop. she was an ordinary woman driven up the wall by that bunch of nutters

sauce · 17/04/2007 13:27

Trollop? No more so than most other women, myself included. Unstable definitely but who wouldn't be in those circumstances? What a hell of a life. Kate's had a lucky escape.

kimi · 17/04/2007 15:49

Shame he lost his mother so young, I thought Kate was very suited to him from what you saw.
I did feel though that the papers were trying to make her Diana the 2nd poor girl.

The trouble with the royals is they are not good at moving with the times and clearly see two types of women, A} the ones you have your fun with, and B} the type you marry.

It all so hypocritical the whole Charles and Camilla thing, If he loved her and she him (and lets face it they never really gave each other up) then they should have just married 30 years ago even if he had to give up his place in line to go on a stamp, and not hurt the people they did marry and start family's they were destine to rip apart.

Part of my feels sorry for William, as he is always going to have to live towing the line so to speak.
I think Harry will do is own thing more.

expatinscotland · 17/04/2007 15:50

Guess that makes me a trollop then.

Gees. I'd be an extraordinary trollop. I don't think Diana got the chance to put as many notches in her bedpost as I have.

kimi · 17/04/2007 15:56

Also I don't think Di was a trollop.
She was a young woman who was sold the dream of marrying her prince, someone should have told her he had his bit on the side and she was just to be breeding stock as she could say ok yar with the best of them

She had her weaknesses and yes she learnt how to play the press, but come on if anyone was in her shoes, putting up with Charlie boy and his other woman we would all seek to hurt the one hurting us.
Can you see the mumsnet thread.......
I am married to a man who has a lover from before we were married, his family turn a blind eye to this and claim I am unstable, I feel all he wanted me for was to give him children, I am sad, lonely and have started to self harm. I turn to any man who makes my feel wanted and strive to be slimmer and more beautiful in the hope he will love me.

We would have all been up in arms on her behalf.

expatinscotland · 17/04/2007 15:59

Her father certainly played a role in selling her up, too. Remember those letters from Prince Phillip, 'Find him (Charles) some dumb country mouse.'

She wasn't the brightest light in the harbour. Never claimed to be, though.

She was a 19-year-old virgin who fell for it hook line and sinker.

And her dreadful family, too!

The way her brother treated her so cruelly when she begged him to let her stay at Althorp for a bit.

His own sister!

DrNortherner · 17/04/2007 16:00

Who said if William truly loved Kate he would have married her?

That is bollocks.

He will be told who to marry and she will be someone who the royal family deem to be suitable.

Bet Cahrlie boy has more notches on his bed post than Diana ever did. ra ra ra.

I am not ant royal but I do think they need a kick up the backside now and then.
Ok so the future king needs someone suitable to marry so a divorcee with kids who grew up in a one parent family on a council estate is out, (I have had a lucky escape but to say Kate is common because her mother chewed gum (ok it was VERY rude) said toilet not lavertry and pardon not I beg your pardon is silly Ok I admit if I was going to meet the queen I would find out how I was meant to address her first (again RUDE not to)but come on people, it not like she said Hi queeny I need a crap weres the bog, here hold my gum.

southeastastra · 17/04/2007 16:09

oh the 'lav' that was really bugging me for some reason. kimi

expatinscotland · 17/04/2007 16:11

Well, those royals have it all wrong, anyhow.

Because it's the ladies room or the powder room or the bathroom.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/04/2007 16:14

I don't see how "pleased to meet you" is somehow rude. How did the queen expect to be addressed, "Fuck off you ugly parasite"? We should be told.

As regards marrying a commoner, other royals (eg Denmark, Norway, Netherlands) seem to have managed to get over it.

Nightynight · 17/04/2007 16:17

pleased to meet you isnt rude - its COMMON

you are supposed to say Hello Maaaarm

I bet the queen doesnt give a *, it will be the courtiers who are spreading this mean little story around.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/04/2007 16:22

"Hello, Maarm" sounds very silly if you ask me. Which she probably wouldn't.
