While Netflix and producers Media Rights Capital were leaning towards ending the show a while ago, key cast and creatives were only alerted this morning in a series of calls.

“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey,” the companies said in a joint statement today. “In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

It was reported originally that KS allegations had swung it so a little disingenuous if it was never going to be recommissioned for a 7th season. But to shut down production now during filming is surprising, almost unprecedented.

Updated 1.11.17

GruesomeLadyOfMangling · 01/11/2017 01:35

In fact, with Asia and other victims having compiled a comprehensive list and now that wikipedia has an entry being updated (albeit with ten names missing from it currently) it might not be necessary to update again. Suffice to say, with 86 +/anonymous complaints, I do hope that the women see justice.

HadronCollider · 01/11/2017 11:41

My greatest fear is that Weinstein will not see justice. This would send a very very bad message if this is the case. Too many women of high profile status have been involved for him to evade justice and it not send a damning message to all women and men around the world who have suffered sexual assault, that it really isn't worth speaking up. He simply must face justice and there ought to be an inquiry into sexual harassment in the film industry, if not all major corporations. I know there is talk of suing the Weinstein Company, but money should not be considered equivalent justice.

I am really concerned no formal charges will be brought, and that even if there are, it may be become another Bill C situation, and just reinforce the message that if you are a man who is rich and powerful enough you can do whatever the fuck you want to who you want and get away with it.

A lot of people have made statements to the press, but I fear a majority would not be willing to make formal charges/back it up in court and that includes the high profile celebs.

GruesomeLadyOfMangling · 01/11/2017 12:15

I still have hope for the second Cosby trial to come back with the right verdict. Possibly I am naive.
I think HW is now forever known as a sex offender. He no longer has clout, power, status and his children know what he is. There will be payments, a hefty divorce, custody/access issues. Have you seen the end of Dangerous Liaisons? Essentially HW has been stripped of his lifestyle and his reputation will now precede him everywhere he goes as a monster.
It's not justice - that would be time served - but his life as he knew it is over. James Toback is also being investigated by police.
310 women claiming harassment. I hate all that pick-up, negging, Neil Strauss bullshit - sex pests the lot of them. The aim of hassling women until you find one to masturbate over with or without their consent is depressing as fuck.

HangryHanderson · 01/11/2017 17:46

'might have' 'could have' 'not reflective of who I am'
He was 48 ffs. She was 17. It's the equivalent of me grabbing the ass of one of my daughter's male friends. Wouldn't happen because I am not a dirty old woman.
Jeremy Piven going for a complete denial. His is a name that comes up a lot.

Datun · 01/11/2017 17:49

I hope she kept a record of those ‘abusive explicit’ texts.

InigoTaran · 01/11/2017 19:33

Heads are rolling in Westminster just seen this on Twitter:

BREAKING- Michael Fallon has resigned as Defence Secretary, admitting his behaviour in the past may have ‘fallen short’

VivaLeBeaver · 01/11/2017 19:42

Ha at Michael Fallon.....the same Michael Fallon who earlier today said he was instructing a libel solicitor! Guess he will be cancelling the brief now!

Datun · 01/11/2017 20:59

I do wonder if this is the turning point. A little step up for women everywhere.

Suddenly sexual harassment has gone from being normalised and that’s just how things are, to being deeply ‘uncool’.

Which is more of a heinous crime than just about anything else.

Iflyaway · 01/11/2017 21:02

Harvey Wankstain.

Glad it's all coming out.

Westminster, Kevin Spacey too. Et al.

Bunch of fuckwanks! Angry

Yep. Me too.

Mner · 01/11/2017 23:16

It is horrifying how many people have been affected but amazing how many are coming forward. The true number must be so much higher than we'll ever know. It would be amazing if this envokes some kind of wake up call that this kind of behaviour is never acceptable.

#Ibelieve #metoo

Mner · 01/11/2017 23:33

This is an interesting commentary on minimisation:

www.theguardian.com/world/commentisfree/2017/nov/01/westminster-sexual-assault-allegations-already-being-minimised?

HangryHanderson · 01/11/2017 23:40

i think Suzanne Moore has it spot on.

Kevin Spacey "seeking treatment" : www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-41843955

Hmm
OP posts:
Datun · 02/11/2017 13:33

All these people stepping down or seeking treatment before any investigation. Some are being asked to leave.

It certainly suggests to me that their behaviour is an open secret.

PinkTiger · 02/11/2017 13:43

All this "seeking treatment" is an utter joke, a PR fig leaf so thin it's transparent. Do these people think the public can't see that?

Emma Thompson was bang on the money when she said about Harvey Weinstein (in relation to his intended "treatment):

“I don’t think you can describe him as a sex addict, he’s a predator. That’s different. He’s at the top of, as it were the ladder of, a system of harassment and belittlement and bullying and interference. This has been part of our world, women’s world, since time immemorial."

www.theguardian.com/film/2017/oct/12/emma-thompson-harvey-weinstein-no-sex-addict-predator

CaveMum · 02/11/2017 13:51

Re. Michael Fallon: there has to be more to it than the one incident in 2002.

As the BBC have been reporting, this sets the bar very high for politicians and don't be surprised if there are more resignations in the coming days/weeks.

OP posts:
Datun · 02/11/2017 13:53

Are they under the impression that if they resign, they won’t be investigated?

Because that would be a double blow to all the women they targeted.

CaveMum · 02/11/2017 13:58

But he's still an MP, he's only resigned his Cabinet post. I'd hope that any "in house" investigation at Westminster would look at claims against all sitting MPs.
