Ok guys, we have been very lucky to discuss this, please lets not give anyone anything to complain about, Mhq have been more than accomodating.

OP posts:
cjt110 · 26/07/2017 12:53

@Maryz I agree. Very succinct. To the point. I must say I like JR.

BlueNeighbourhood · 26/07/2017 12:54

Sorry if it's been mentioned already but did anyone see the Chris Gard post on the CA Facebook group outing a woman who sent a horrid email to them. Basically she agrees with the majority here but broadcast it in a foul way.

Left her email address open to view and now she's been bombarded by CA. He set out deliberately for that reaction from CA.

Justaboy · 26/07/2017 12:54

Had to unlurk now. I'm a medical student and I've had a message from Charlie's Army asking if I can manage a ventilator. They've also put a message on our year facebook group asking for one of us to ventilate him."

Jeezz!! wonder if there's any mental institution who'd admit the barmy army en masse?

GabsAlot · 26/07/2017 12:54

cjt110 · 26/07/2017 12:55

GabsAlot · 26/07/2017 12:56

SadGuru · 26/07/2017 12:57

Charlie Gard's case has a lot to teach us. But to learn those lessons we must begin with the evidence

Couldn't agree more with JR

cjt110 · 26/07/2017 12:58

No trouble. Happy to repost if all are OK with that?

I assume it will be this link which randomly has stuff about the Magna Carta on Confused

Chestervase1 · 26/07/2017 12:59

Ellie asks where did it go wrong. Look at all the court submissions and you will see. C and C believed that with treatment they would have a normal little boy. That could not happen. All the arguments since have stemmed from that misunderstanding of the truth about his illness and denial of its progression. Therefore they keep asking for what cannot be if any use. Or cannot be done.

Hospitals do all they can to prevent court cases like this and they are fairly rare. They have won every case so far. If people will not see any reason at all and believe they alone have power over their child, then it is doomed to never be decided in an acceptable manner. I have no doubt hospitals will review what has happened but each set of parents is very different and there has been clear disagreement here for all of this year. The parents believed he could be normal with treatment so how does anyone get past that?

smilingmind · 26/07/2017 13:02

Apologies for my error. I have reported my post quoting Pistonheads and sent the following to MN.

Sorry MNHQ but did not know about the forum crossover rules. If this is inappropriate please delete it.

ExConstance · 26/07/2017 13:03

Whatever the science, and I don't disagree with any specific views put forward here, the fact that the parents felt and feel they have to do this shows that a consultative approach, if it happened didn't work. At some point something set this chain in motion. The money might not have bee able to do anything to save Charlie but it is an empowerment for his family. I think that if they fight every inch of the way that actually might be better for them, it will perhaps enable them to think they did everything they could. I don't actually think it is possible for us to understand them, but we should try to understand that. Of course there will be more litigation, it would seem to be inevitable.

BlueNeighbourhood · 26/07/2017 13:03

The full post on the Facebook read 'don't be like the horrible obstructive doctors poor Charlie's family has had to deal with'

I'm speechless that they even survive life.

I struggle to feel sorry for the woman who sent the vile email to the parents.

ArmySal · 26/07/2017 13:07

I can't remember any rules regarding copying from other sites. MNHQ have no problem with quotes and stories being lifted from here, so...

Ceto · 26/07/2017 13:08

They can't seriously imagine that Armstrong would even bother to put forward a care plan based on some unknown medical student who's just turned up this morning willing to give it a go?

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/07/2017 13:08

Beyond you're right. Pistonhead bloke first mentioned on this thread when I said

PS I don't think the Pistonheads bloke is a doctor - he knows his biosciences and explains it well but most clinicians would not be quite so... definite based on photos. I doubt he has much/any experience of patient care.

I then made the mansplaining comment on a subsequent thread

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 26/07/2017 13:10

👍

RoomOfRequirement · 26/07/2017 13:11

In regards to having Charlie moved to another part of GOSH, with a different set of staff. I'm honestly not sure that could ever work. First, finding an appropriate space. There is a LOT of ICU equipment, not just a ventilator. All of which will need specialist ports on the wall and a 'bed space' much larger than the average ward bed.

Also, ICU nursing is very specialist, and PICU even moreso. It's not something any Registered Nurse can do - even if they have years of other experience, it requires even more specialist training. The nurses trained to do that will likely already be the people caring for Charlie.

They will also need a PICU trained medic about. They are already in such a shortage and caring for a lot of children at once. I doubt they'll safely be able to give 1:1 care away from the ICU setting without putting all of the other children at risk.

I think the best bet is to give them a side room in the ICU, which I'm sure they already have, and get minimal nurse/doctor contact. Someone watching Charlie but not sitting in the room writing obs constantly. I know the parents feel animosity towards GOSH but right now they need to forget all of that and spend time with their son. There'll be time for anger, whether justified or not, later.

yolofish · 26/07/2017 13:11

Ceto I think the vile email is a scam, using the name of someone who (coincidentally?) works at GOSH. So I feel sorry for that person who is most likely entirely innocent and some fuckwit has pinched her name. I could be wrong, could really be from that person - but somehow I doubt it.

smilingmind · 26/07/2017 13:11

Thanks Maryz I have never heard of those rules but then am relatively new to MN. I'm happy to have reported, even if unnecessary, as I really don't want to do anything thing to derail the thread.
