I hadn't seen the rumour that Labour were going stop Brexit, is that local to your experience? (Or was it just something I missed entirely I wonder?)

Do you know Labour supporters who were put off because of that?

PelvicFloorTrauma · 26/06/2017 13:02

The neoliberal dream is dying and a socialist dinosaur is poised to win, brought to power by the youth vote. Voters too young and inexperienced to understand the dangers his policies pose. Luke Johnson wrote a brilliant piece 2 weeks ago in The Sunday Times describing his fears for the country. I am resigned to the fact that my family will go abroad. Lots of our friends are also making plans to leave. It will be a complete hassle but we aren't going to stick around so that we can just about scrap through due to the state levying massive taxes. Husband has a stressful, demanding, gruelling job. Can be down abroad. Top 1% of income tax taxpayers pay 27% of income tax - that 1% is very mobile.

Artofnoise1 · 26/06/2017 13:05

You poor thing pelvic My heart bleeds for you and your poor friendsSad

Mistigri If you're interested, here's the lowdown on LVT.

Well, exactly. Impact depends on how it's implemented. Taxing land values is not "socialist" in itself, since it's also LD and Green policy as well as being common practice in Europe.

Not taxing assets is how we got into this mess.

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 13:20

Top 1% of income tax taxpayers pay 27% of income tax

Top 1% by number? Yes, that's what happens when income inequality widens and the rich hold an ever larger proportion of the national income. If the top 1% didn't hold such a high proportion of national income then this wouldn't be the case.

elevenclips · 26/06/2017 13:21

I'm not really interested in what he does/does not attend.

However, I am afraid of him. He presents everything as fairness, equality etc and it sounds idyllic. Everything for everybody. Appealing.

But he cannot pay for it and the people he has lined up to pay for it (the 1% or 5% or whoever) just will not be paying. They are the most powerful and mobile and they will fuck off to another country, dish out their assets to family, start working part time or not at all etc. We will all be worse off, every last one of us, rich, poor or in between.

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 13:25

And given there has been a massive transfer of wealth away from the value of labour towards the value of assets (examples being average pay static or falling while house prices rocket) we have to get to grips with a proper form of taxing of assets.

I wonder if he was at Glastonbury eyeing up Michael Eavis's farmland? Oooh, the land tax on that!

But, otoh, if you offer to host a Labour rally perhaps you will be let off.

Well, no doubt he would pay the tax smile. He can easily pay it can't he? Seeing as he makes an absolute shitload out of glasto. Not sure his neighbouring farmers would find it so easy.

Flumpernickel · 26/06/2017 14:26

The hypocricy is staggering. "for the many not the few" GrinHmm and the ones ramming this particularly catchy and agreeable soundbite down our throats are the very folks who seem to be absolutely fucking rolling in it.

The joke really is on the electorate. They are all a bunch of hypocritical bollock merchants, every last one of them. Dont make the dangerous mistake of thinking Jesus Corbyn isnt as snakey as the rest.

Flumpernickel · 26/06/2017 14:31

The "few", according to Mcdonnell.

@JustAnotherPoster00
Glastonbury, enjoyed by tens of thousands of eco warriors, environmentalists and some anti fracking campaigners, all saving the planet.
~ friends of Ryedale Gas Exploration

"Its still less damaging than fracking so DFO"

A few things to that:

  1. I bet you wouldn't say that if we were in the same room. Smacks of internet courage which isn't courage at all
  2. I think the saying is "DFOD". Look it up.
  3. Do you always respond with sweary aggression just because you don't agree? Doesn't seem like a balanced discussion if you do. Just sayin'.
  4. Peace and love Grin

Maybe they should just pay it then smile? Why wait for hmrc to ask them for it? I would be ever so impressed with the altruism of one of these celebrity socialists just outright volunteering to be taxed at a level they and Jesus C seem to think fairer.
Nothing stopping then voluntarily increasing their own contributions to the government coffers. (They may be doing this already of course... Wink)

Flumpernickel · 26/06/2017 15:16

I suspect however in reality, that however good it feels to preach at the peasants, when these supposedly socialist celebs/uber rich really start to feel the pinch. They will just find better accountants and tropical Islands on which to park their money, meaning even less tax return for the UK.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/06/2017 15:24

Oh I guarantee you I would Grin

Wonderment · 26/06/2017 17:53

Well of course you would make that claim!

Wonderment · 26/06/2017 17:53

Ps: don't believe you though Wink

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 17:57

No one's going to fuck off anywhere.

All empty threats.

Wonderment · 26/06/2017 18:08

We can all see that.

Well, most of us, that is!
