Away - I am pretty sure if JC attended the Somerset event with a Tory MP it would be in the papers

ExConstance · 26/06/2017 11:59

The Tories hate anyone who encourages young people to take an interest in politics because they want to be able to use them to fund the rest of us, exploit in relation to housing and use as a cash cow to pay for pensions etc. What they don't appreciate is that unless all parties tap into the needs and interests of the under 30's their sphere of influence will decrease as people like my mother who are irretrievable staunch Tories eventually die off. Wonder what would have happened if Theresa May had gone to Glastonbury?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 11:59

Away - there is absolutely no proof that he did go is there?? The reason the Tory MP invited him was to expose the fact that if JC really wanted to go to an event he could go and still attend Glastonbury. The fact he chose not to go to the event when it was entirely possible to go says a lot about the type on man JC is. (I'll put my hard hat on now)

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 12:01

Wonderment how very true!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 12:05

Part of TM's problem is that she can't connect with people who are not her natural supporters

Well, yes, and initially refusing to meet with the public after a major fire disaster just reiterates this. Even more so when she used the excuse of 'safety concerns' initially and then the bloody Queen shows up with no warning and a very low police presence. Pardon the pun, she was royally showed up on that one. If it was safe enough for the Queen it was safe enough for TM.

This is not true. In fact, I remember the Tory party had to shut down the Young Conservatives because they were too badly behaved.
Yes, younger voters tend to be mor left leaning and idealistic but there are plenty of young people who start off Tory as well.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 12:08

Away - we can agree on that but I would go further to say that TM can't even connect with her natural supporters. I an a natural Tory supporter and I am totally fed up with her.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 12:08

Exactly Chalpolly

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 12:09

Jezza's problem is that he won't reach out to people who won't adore him.
Maybe because they are old enough to remember some of the arse licking he has done

Glastonbury, enjoyed by tens of thousands of eco warriors, environmentalists and some anti fracking campaigners, all saving the planet.
~ friends of Ryedale Gas Exploration

Its still less damaging than fracking so DFO Hmm

upperlimit · 26/06/2017 12:16

but given that Corbyn's popularity seems to be increasing then he must be 'reaching out' to those who hadn't previously adored him.

Do you mean he is 'reaching out' to the wrong kind of people?

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 12:16

Just, dickheads did this sort of stuff in the 80s too. Google Loadsamoney.

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 12:27

If JC "reached out" to veterans and active service personnel, I would be impressed. I wouldn't like him any more but I would be impressed.

The people who voted Labour in the last election voted as much if not more for their local candidate than for JC worship. And hatred of the Tories.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 12:28

What kind of arselicking clalpolly.

I'm a bit cynical you see, a tory councillor had the misfortune to stop and talk to me whilst canvassing, they started going on about how JC is a career politician and felt a bit affronted when I asked them how long TM had been in politics for, and by default, that makes her a career politician too.

I'm sure whatever JCs arselicking moments were, TM can be said to be winning the arselicking championships at the moment with the DUP. Imagine having to reply on an anti-gay group to prop your party up.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 12:29

*rely not reply.

Do you mean like this clalpolly?

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 12:32

Do you mean he is 'reaching out' to the wrong kind of people?

Yes! He preaches to the converted. Of course he does still needs to keep a high profile amongst his core demographic- but I don't see him making any effort to connect with people that aren't middle class lefties.

Labour should have won this GE by an absolute landslide. Why didn't they?

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 12:34

Labour should have won this GE by an absolute landslide. Why didn't they?

Because a majority of people voted for Brexit, and many were wrongly and repeatedly told that Labour would stop it if they won.

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 12:39

Not a fucking Tory. Despise them. Despise them even more for getting into bed with the DUP.
But JC has, over his career as a back bench refusenik, courted the company of some real scumbags. Not in the interests of peace but in the interests of clocking up "cool points ". He couldn't wait for the dust to settle after many terrorist outrages before getting photos with terrorist supporters. And it was never the "other side " that he wanted to talk to. Show me photos of him glad handing the UVF. Fellow traveller/useful idiot who shows terrible judgment.

lucydogz · 26/06/2017 12:50

Apparently jc plans to scrap Trident ASAP if he gets in next time, after previously committing to it. (From an interview with Michael Eaves, who was talking about a conversation he had with jc). How's that for being honest and honourable?
About the photo - a friend of mine had a job clearing up after Glastonbury for several years. It was very common for people to buy 2 tents. Use one as a toilet. Walk away from both at the end. Truly disgusting.

Artofnoise1 · 26/06/2017 12:51

Corbyn would clean up if there was an election tomorrow. The tories are terrified. They're terrified that he' s speaking to young people in a way that's they haven't a hope in in hell of doing.

Even the right wing press are losing the battle against him. Good to see.
It' s been a long time comimgGrin

Artofnoise1 · 26/06/2017 12:53

.Clap sure you're not a Tory? Your little rant sounds straight out of the mouth of Boris or goveHmm

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 12:55

I hope the government is properly factoring in non-repayment of loans in the accounts, otherwise when the write offs occur in future this will increase the debt burden to our children anyway. A high number of students on permanent low incomes is a potentially massive hit.

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 12:55

Obviously I must be a Tory because it's impossible that I could hate the Tories and JC. What an idiot.
