Ps: don't believe you though

Ok thanks for letting me know not that I gave a fuck anyway Smile

PelvicFloorTrauma · 26/06/2017 18:22

Away with the Pixies. "No one's going to fuck off anywhere". Sometimes it feels as though I am banging my head against a wall - there was another poster on MN during the GE who was similarly 100% convinced that no-one will leave. I promise you that the day JC gets into the power is the day we start packing. Lots of clients and friends are of the same mind, all mega earners. My DH has paid millions of pounds of tax, happily done so, but there is a tipping point and JC's policies are it.

PortiaCastis · 26/06/2017 18:25

How much will the Tories increase tax?

TDHManchester · 26/06/2017 18:25

Clearly he thought Glastonbury was fertile ground. All sheep need a good shepherd.

Flumpernickel · 26/06/2017 18:35

Pissed up sheep on hippy crack no less TDH! WinkHalo

Flumpernickel · 26/06/2017 18:37

Christ, give me 10 pints of strongbow and a couple of canisters of laughing gas and I would probably cheer for the man! Grin

Flumpernickel · 26/06/2017 18:45

Pelvic I agree with you, and what you have just said confirms my fears. Our small business relies on these much maligned upper earners, we employ 10 people as a result of their business. If people such as yourself upped and left, our business would collapse, followed by many others and IMO the economy would not be far behind.

I17neednumbers · 26/06/2017 19:05

The US has quite high property taxes doesn't it? In some places at least. So it doesn't seem inherently a left wing or a right wing idea. One advantage is that they are quite difficult to evade, I think. Council tax is already a form of property tax as linked to values to some extent.

I17neednumbers · 26/06/2017 19:07

Sorry my last post looks a bit random. I was catching up - and commenting on the idea of an lvpt.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 19:41

Pelvic, income-wise, we are in the top 1% - if anything makes us leave the UK it'll be Brexit forcing his job to another EU country - not contributing a bit more tax, or Corbyn getting in.

You shouldn't assume that all high earners have the same mindset as you. This article shows many high earners questioning income inequality and a willingness to pay more tax.

www.theguardian.com/inequality/2017/may/17/voices-of-the-uk-i-should-be-taxed-more-maybe-other-well-paid-people-feel-same

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 19:52

ShoeshaveSouls - it is not just a bit more tax. We are in the top 5% not the top 1% and it is a lot more money. We already pay huge amounts in tax and NI. Rebecca Long-Bailey has stated in 2 interviews that these are "initial" tax increases. There will be more, there has to be to pay for all the sweeties JC and JM have thrown out to everyone. It won't just be tax increases either.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 19:53

So will you be leaving the county then?

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 20:02

Ah I'm glad your back ShoesHaveSouls I'm still waiting for you to tell me which armed forces day event JC attended over the weekend

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 20:11

Thiscant will you be left with not enough money?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 20:12

My DH won't pay any more tax than he is already paying. He has no personal allowance and works very long hours. We do not have a luxury lifestyle. Like I said, the top 5% do already pay huge amounts of tax and NI. We will definitely go and DH has already made enquiries. It will be a massive upheaval but we really can't afford to pay anymore.

These are just the initial tax increases there will be more down the road.

While I am on a rant, maybe if celebrities such as Gary Linekar, Bob Geldoff etc who are so good at preaching to everyone paid their tax instead of joining tax avoidance schemes the public services in this country might not be in the state they are in.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 20:13

As Awaywiththepixies said upthread, Hatties, he has attended these events many times.

The Queen didn't attend either - are you going criticise her as well?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 20:14

Yes, Shoeshavesoles - where is that link?

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 20:17

I don't agree with tax avoidance at all, Thiscantreallybehappening, so we are in agreement there. There's a very obvious scheme my DH could be involved with, but it's immoral IMO (if not technically illegal) - so he doesn't do it, and nor do hardly any of his colleagues afaik.

I've only heard Rebecca Long Bailey talking about reversing tax cuts to the super rich, corporation tax and Inheritance tax.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 20:19

Here it is, Hattiesbackpack Wink

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 20:21

I don't know why they don't just put national insurance up. Earn 11-43k (approx) = pay 20% tax & 12% NI so 32% in total; earn 43-100k (stopping here as declining tax free limit means 100-122k is a bit different) = pay 40% tax & 2% NI so 42% in total.

Total tax & NI costs are only a 10% difference between the lower and middle tax bracket and no one ever mentions it.

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 20:23

*Glastonbury has long been the bastion of the left wing middle classes, there's nothing wrong with that I'm not knocking those that go, but it's fairly unsurprising that Corbyn was received so well is it.

Personally I would have liked to have seen him attend an armed forces day event, he needs to start connecting with people outside of his fan base*

This is my own post from this morning- I am specifically discussing JC and this years armed forces day and why I thought he should have gone to an event.

You immediately came back with
'He did'

Did he ? Can you provide a link please.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 20:25

He has attended these armed forces day things before, Hatties - so give it a rest.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 20:26

5Live - I am not going to go into our personal finances. People across all income brackets work very hard and very long hours but there does come a point where people just think "enough is enough" - the brain drain is well documented. I have already stated we don't have a luxury lifestyle. My children do not go to private school, we don't have private health insurance, treats at birthdays are budgeted for, our car is 9 years old, we try and have one modest family holiday a year. We do not have some luxury over excessive lifestyle.

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 20:27

I'd like to know what the breakdown is across the population for payment of national insurance. It can't be the same as the split for income tax that we are always hearing about. I thought that's where the NHS budget comes from not tax.
