My ds ( 17 ) just rolls his eyes at Glastonbury.

The sourness of the Glasto-haters really makes me laugh. Like you think it shouldn't be allowed to exist or something.

My DSs age 15 & 12 say they can't wait to go - so it depends on the young person doesn't it? If you're a sort of Farage-loving UKipper type, you're probably not going to be tempted. It's not compulsory.

And to the poster upthread proscribing what Glastonbury should and shouldn't be - Michael Eavis can invite who he wants to speak at his festival.

SloeGinRocks · 26/06/2017 09:41

Ohh Jeremy Corbyn! Grin
grins and runs away

glastogal · 26/06/2017 09:56

Glastonbury has never been just a music festival and anyone that thinks otherwise has clearly only ever experienced it through the eyes of the Beeb!!

JC pulled a big crowd because they wanted to be there.. trust me, there were hundreds of other things they could have been doing at that time!! Lovely to see so many people interested enough to attend (although I didn't, as I had to go off site for a wedding that day!!)

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 10:07

MerryMarigold try reading the article.

It's from a reputable fact checking site and that quote was from the daily express. Not me.

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 10:07

Glastonbury has long been the bastion of the left wing middle classes, there's nothing wrong with that I'm not knocking those that go, but it's fairly unsurprising that Corbyn was received so well is it.

Personally I would have liked to have seen him attend an armed forces day event, he needs to start connecting with people outside of his fan base.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 10:08

Sloegin Grin

I don't hate Glastonbury. I just think it's full of middle class, middle aged, lefties. & there's nothing wrong with that!
Ds ( 17 ) just wouldn't go because he thinks it's for people my age. & he's kinda right.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 10:33

He did.

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 10:40

Link?

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/06/2017 10:42

Have you RTFT? It was posted yesterday at 8.35am.

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 10:45

Sorry that came across as quite rude, which event did he attend?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 10:45

ShoesHaveSoles - please could you link to the armed forces event JC attended?

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 10:46

Oh do you mean the one he was invited to but didn't attend?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 10:47

JC was invited to one in Somerset by a Tory MP but that was an invite he didn't attend that event

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 10:51

Sorry posted too quickly - The Tory MP was exposing the fact that JC could go to one, even though he was due to attend Glastonbury. He didn't attend that event. There is also no mention on JC's twitter of attending an event it is just full of Glastonbury photos. Happy to be proved wrong though, if JC did attend one.

Like I said he needs to start connecting with people outside his own fan base.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 11:04

It isn't compulsory but as leader of the opposition and in JC's words (Prime Minister in waiting) it would have been the "right and respectful" thing to attend. I am no fan of TM but she gets vilified for not doing the "right" thing constantly by JC and his merry men.

However, the point is posters keep insisting he did attend one and yet I am still waiting for a link to confirm that he did. All I keep seeing is an invite - he didn't attend that event.

Happy to be proved wrong and hope he did make it to an event.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/06/2017 11:05

Who knew redistribution of wealth is a terrifying prospect?

Depends which direction its going, since 1979 wealth has slowly being redistributed from poor to rich, although Blair did it slowly but he still did it.

Since 2010 that was increased by the austerity narrative, but redistribution from the rich to the poor very very scary stuff apparently, especially when you see how a Tory/Kipper sees it Hmm

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 11:09

Part of TM's problem is that she can't connect with people who are not her natural supporters.
JC is making the same mistake.

Bad news for politicians in a democracy is that if you want to lead you have to reach out to people who aren't your fan base.

You might fail. You might get boo-ed but at least it shows you have some moral courage.

JEREMY Corbyn is to play to packed stadia across the world, reading out bits of economic policy from the Labour manifesto.

Tour manager Nikki Hollis said: “This is the biggest production I’ve handled since The Rolling Stones. Jeremy wants a 150-foot mechanical Nye Bevan and a group of 200 miners singing a medley of angry folk songs.

“Fortunately his rider is just a jug of tap water, a jam sandwich and an old woman he can empathise with.”

Fan Tom Logan said: “I’ve got front-row seats for the London gig. I can’t wait to stage-dive while he reads out the bit about international trade agreements.”

Tour merchandise will include ‘J-Co’ branded pushbikes, cardigans and fake beards, while the support act will be Guardian intern Owen Jones reading out a 4000-word essay about renationalising British Airways.

Hollis added: “Tickets are for the many, not the few, so long as the many can afford £80 plus a £15 booking fee.”

lucydogz · 26/06/2017 11:18

with the appearance of Nikki Hollis, I guess it's Daily Mash. I love the Daily Mash

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 11:19

surferjet Grin I especially like the rider!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 11:47

JC attended several AFD events throughout the week. He apparently went to the Somerset one too but there's apparently no clarification that he either went or didnt go. But people have decided he didnt anyway even in the absence of any proof. (The reason the Tory MP invited him was so that he could still attend both events). He also sent someone to represent him at the AFD event in Liverpool because it's a bit difficult to be in two places at once.

Wonderment · 26/06/2017 11:51

This is going round Facebook today. It just goes to show that people say they're one thing and then do another. JC is one minute the unpopular and the next everyone's hero. It will change back. People, on the whole, are fickle and unreliable creatures en mass.

Glastonbury, enjoyed by tens of thousands of eco warriors, environmentalists and some anti fracking campaigners, all saving the planet.
