Trump's "Muslim ban"

I can't believe he's actually done it, these changes are happening so fast, even green card holders are not allowed to reenter the country if they leave.

But muslims from Saudi Arabia are fine? Hmm

Fair Point Pity

TreacleTreacleLittleStar · 28/01/2017 23:14

I'm shocked but I can see his reasoning behind it. Reduce the possibility of terrorism during that period

tribpot · 28/01/2017 23:14

Right. So Farah is either back in the US where he trains, and thus can't leave as he won't be able to get back in, or he's not in the US and thus can't get back in. Hence hoping that, whichever circumstance he finds himself in, his family is where he is.

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2017 23:15

Wouldn't it be ironic if he was shot by a white Christian American. Preferably a pro lifer too.

Chippednailvarnishing · 28/01/2017 23:15

"I''m shocked but I can see his reasoning behind it. Reduce the possibility of terrorism during that period*

What reasoning?

FelixFelix · 28/01/2017 23:16

Here's one for you stealth Smile

tribpot · 28/01/2017 23:17

Treacle, there's no correlation between the countries whose citizens are banned and the countries whose citizens have committed acts of terror in the US.

Chippednailvarnishing · 28/01/2017 23:18

Stealth I'm hoping Melania steps up to the plate.

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2017 23:19

Thanks Felix. Actually I'll go for the lawnmower or falling down the stairs while putting his stars n stripes pants on

Mrsmorton · 28/01/2017 23:19

I'm almost scared to go to sleep... it's quite literally like watching a bizarre film. So sad to see what is happening.

Trump's pro life supporters are being oddly quiet about the lives of refugees...

Stealth he's more likely to be shot by a USA only passport holder than a green card holder!

It's just such an awful idea and I cannot believe it's been enacted.

Everyone I know in the US is a first or second generation immigrant and/or a Democrat. So they're already outraged.

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2017 23:20

In what way chipped? I don't think she gets close enough to him to be a viable option.

Chippednailvarnishing · 28/01/2017 23:23

Maybe she'll snap and do.it at the next press conference whilst he is telling her off...

llangennith · 28/01/2017 23:27

Maybe Trump is trying to protect his country from another 9/11.

PickAChew · 28/01/2017 23:28

My political head in the sand teen has been sitting up and taking notice of trump and not liking what he sees.

He was listening to the news story about a woman with a green card who went away to visit her sick father then couldn't get back in, earlier and asked why he was doing it and I actually found myself lost for non-sweary words to explain it, given DS1's lack of understanding of nuance. I need to have a further conversation of six with him, I think, but the only explanation I could give him in words I wouldn't have to extensively define (communication disorder, so all nuance is lost on him) was" because he's an ignorant arsehole". He agreed.

PickAChew · 28/01/2017 23:30

I hope that Mrs Merkel turns out to be made of sterner stuff. Can't see her holding his hand somehow.

There are some things I love about that woman and one is that she's more likely to be dragging him by his ear!

TreeTop7 · 28/01/2017 23:33

I'm saddened but not surprised.

ExplodedCloud · 28/01/2017 23:33

I wonder what the German archives hold about the Drump family?

justicewomen · 28/01/2017 23:39

Langennith

The perpetrators of 9/11 were from Saudi and UAE. Neither country is on the list; presumably because Trump's businesses do a lot of trade in those countries.

He is likely to make a 9/11 more likely as this will be a massive propaganda coup for ISIS who will paint this as a religious war.

tribpot · 28/01/2017 23:43

Yes, the ban excludes a number of countries in the region where Trump has business interests.

Lorelei76 · 28/01/2017 23:45

Treacle - seriously?!

Would you have banned all Irish people from entering England?

ExplodedCloud · 28/01/2017 23:45

justice I was at an event when Dubya was up for re-election and I was talking to Republicans. They were utterly convinced that Iraqi nationals flew into the Twin Towers. Beyond any doubt. Terrifying.

Valentine2 · 29/01/2017 00:11

It's great that other than nearly three posters here, mumsnet is unanimously anti Trump! Love you all!
I am really really hoping that the Irani movie is given Oscar and it becomes Hollywood's middle finger to Trump.
I also think he must be challenged at all the world forums, both morally and legally.
I strongly suspect Trump has been proving inhuman stuff like Fuckrage
and Piers Morgan a permanent and relaxing holiday up his arse because EU is far far more strong/vocal bloc than United Nations. He is using "divide and rule".
it would be amazing if US courts could be moved somehow to declare this illegal which it is essentially. British courts moved to stop May becoming a dictator. US courts should do that. Duty bound to do this.

Abraiid2 · 29/01/2017 07:49

If that three includes me, you are very wrong. I despise Trump.

But I am pointing out the folly of thinking we have the luxury of not needing to negotiate with him,

Brexit voters are to blame for this situation. Not TM.

GinIsIn · 29/01/2017 07:50

Now that the courts have ruled against him on this, there will hopefully be a snowball effect on his other Executive Orders.
