I can't believe he's actually done it, these changes are happening so fast, even green card holders are not allowed to reenter the country if they leave.

But muslims from Saudi Arabia are fine? Hmm

You may be educated but you are also a vile racist. Donald.

netflixandsleep · 28/01/2017 20:54

donaldtrumpshair You appear to be thinking about extremist Muslims as opposed to Muslims.
Every religious text I am familiar with could be seen to be hateful towards non believers.
I've never in my life met or heard about a Muslim not wanting to integrate or not respecting British law.
In the media or on Facebook perhaps but never in real life.

LouKout · 28/01/2017 20:56

Its abhorrent that racist views like these are practically mainstream now.

Years ago people who said things like that would have been ostracised as far right extremists.

The world is a worrying place today, and not because of Muslims.

Figure17a · 28/01/2017 20:58

Every time you tell people like this that they're stupid, you reinforce their view that their opinions are being ignored. Which is what we have UKIP, Trump and Brexit. If government/press etc had tried harder to understand why they feel this way, we might not be in this position.

theothercatpurred · 28/01/2017 21:02

Figure17a so WTF are we supposed to do? When people act like they're stupid?

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2017 21:06

We're not supposed to call out stupid racism because we might upset stupid racists? Shock

PenguinRoar · 28/01/2017 21:07

These views shouldn't be ignored, they should be called out and discredited at every turn.

It's not the people who are stupid; it's the abhorrent drip, drip, drip of vile, fascist media channels feeding fears and channelling blame.

Fox, sky and daily mail are key culprits and media watchdogs with teeth would seriously help. (Remind me again exactly where the Daily Mail published Katie Hopkins pathetic apology for lying about a Muslim family?)

justicewomen · 28/01/2017 21:08

Have you seen this?
www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/a-yazidi-refugee-stranded-at-the-airport-by-trump

It shows that Trump is not motivated by terrorism (as Yazidis are victims of terrorism) but blind racism

And donaldtrumpshair, I work with British Muslims who are significantly more tolerant, peaceful, liberal and moral than you come across- and they do not make generalisations about whole communities. Learn from them

StarUtopia · 28/01/2017 21:08

Have any of you people ever lived in Dewsbury, Blackburn, Bradford? (just off the top of my head) Or are you all in the lovely capital?

Just genuinely curious (as you all lay into Trumphair poster for being racist)

LouKout · 28/01/2017 21:08

It sort of is stupid to believe that because the actions of some Muslims are bad, that all Muslims are wicked. Sorry

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2017 21:10

What's your point Utopia?

LouKout · 28/01/2017 21:10

Personally I live in an area with a large Asian population.

Surely you arent saying that its OK and understandable to be racist if you live in those places, Star?

PenguinRoar · 28/01/2017 21:12

star behave yourself!

Are you presuming the body of people commenting are White Londoners, whose skin colour or geographic location bars them from having an opinion?

Seriously...

EmmanuelleMumsnet · 28/01/2017 21:13

Thank you to everyone who has reported racist posts - we won't tolerate them and we appreciate your reports.

Figure17a · 28/01/2017 21:22

Work to understand what makes them feel that way theothercatpurred and to improve their lot.

Poor people in the US and UK genuinely feel aggrieved at the way they feel immigration has affected them. I don't think it's disadvantaged them as much as they think it has, but it's true their situation has in many cases worsened over the last decade or so. The only views they hear are those of people who haven't been affected, telling them they're wrong to feel the way they do and the extreme views of people who agree with them.

Thinking dismissing their views as stupid is going to change them is pretty stupid!

BabCNesbitt · 28/01/2017 21:27

But it's pretty obvious what makes them feel that way - they've been fed racist bullshit for years and it suits them to swallow it wholesale. Easier to focus on scapegoats than to admit that you're powerless in the face of a collapsing economy. Frankly I'm tired of being told that if we'd only just been more sympathetic to white people then they'd be a bit less fucking racist.

Figure17a · 28/01/2017 21:32

Doesn't really matter if you;re tired of it Bab. It's becasue no-one listened to them that we have Trump and Brexit. You don't have to like them or agree with them to recognise that they and their attitudes were a threat that needed dealing with, rather than patronising and ignoring. Maybe they didn't deserve listening to but the rest of the world deserved some effort being put into preventing this surely?

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2017 21:33

Is it just me, or wouldn't it be the case that if somebody who was condemning racism suggested that "poor people are racist", they would be roasted alive for such a revolting prejudice? Whereas here we have somebody defending racist attitudes suggesting precisely the same Confused?

Figure17a · 28/01/2017 21:34

Is that aimed at me Element? i am certainly not defending racist view not at all. I'm saying that ignoring them got us into this mess.

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2017 21:40

Defending the holders of racist views, then? On the basis that they're poor?

How about if they're not poor? Like, um, Trump? Or most of the people who voted for him, who in fact generally were higher earners than Clinton voters?

BabCNesbitt · 28/01/2017 21:42

So what does listening actually do, Figure17a? If it's not followed up by the kinds of restrictions, of human rights abuses and economic self-immolation that they're demanding, then they'll start banging on about patronising liberals and the will of "the people" being ignored. We can nod our heads and listen sympathetically all we like, but if they're still buying into the Daily Mail/Express/Katie Hopkins-type bollocks then what difference does it make? Do we just have to go along with their ignorance?

Figure17a · 28/01/2017 21:43

There's no point getting cross with me. That's exactly it isn't it? We know loads of people voted for him and we don;t understand why. No attempt was made to understand why anyone might vote that way because people who would were dismissed as stupid. Who looks stupid now?

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2017 21:43

I'm just not getting your point, Figure.

Figure17a · 28/01/2017 21:46

The understanding needed to come much much earlier when changes could have been made. But the "liberals" didn't really want change because their lives weren't affected by the problems these particular voters face.

Restrictions are the problem, not the answer. These people feel repressed as it is. We needed to prove to them that the Daily Mail was wrong but the politicians and the more liberal press refused to discuss the issues.

StumblyMonkey · 28/01/2017 21:46

I'm from Stoke star, significant Muslim population. I think this 'Muslim ban' is disgusting.

What is your point?
