Two year old murdered

I've just read on the net about the 2 year old who was sexually assulte and murdered. why does this have to happen? I'm very upset as i'm sure you all will be once you hear/read about this. Have a look at \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/6356009.stm}

A considerable number of paedophiles have been abused themselves.

This should not be seen as an excuse for their crimes though - lots of people have been abused but DON'T go on to become abusers themselves.

if they were they should know the horror and pain of it, not go and do it themselves

this to me was not even what I would call a paedophile. It's not like (that we know of) he has been abusing the little girl.

It looks like he's just gone in to her bedroom, done what he wanted to do to her and killed her in the process.

At what point did I say I wanted him executed, Hunker? Sorry, but I thought I said I didn't support the death penalty and wanted him to endure a living hell for the rest of his days.

I did say I could tear him apart with my bare hands, but that was an expression.

I agree with Mumof3, let them rot and give them the rest of (what I hope is actually a very long life) to pay with misery for the evil they have done.

Maybe im not a cute and fluffy "lets talk to them and they will regret what they have done" liberal but you know what, I have never raped, abused, murdered or even stolen anything...so this opinion is my worse vice.

I didnt say "no one" who was a pedophile had been abused I said it was not generally believed to be the sole reason for it now. May be some men are sexually attracted to children in the way some are to blonds, maybe it is a power trip - I'm not an expert. I did grow up when the all abusers have been abused theory was believed...I thought that opinion had changed - feel free to educate me if not.

This is a horrific story but agree the death penalty being bought back would just be asking for trouble,sadly,in my opnion there is no place for it in todays society.

So it leaves the question,what punishment for these sort of crimes?prison?
Nowadays child sex offenders and murderers are shut away from 'normal'prison society,so have nothing to fear.

In my opinion they should be castrated,that way the hormones that 'urge' these crimes is taken away.I know its not just hormones that make these supposed human beings commit these crimes but if the sexual/hormonal urge was taken away then perhaps they wouldnt re-offend so easily.

Prison isn't much of a deterrent to 'proper' criminals nowadays,perhaps at least for child offenders it would instill some sort of 'fear' in them.

I wouldnt have a problem with life in prison if it werent for the fact that we are supplying plasma screens, x-boxes blah, blah, blah. Some of these people are from the bottom of the social pile these are luxuries they wouldnt have had on the outside so all we have done is temporarily deprive them of their freedom.

Did you read the report recently about the actress (Samantha Morton) who grew up in a chilrens home and said the conditions there were far WORSE that in prison. Oh yeah we are such a civilised and just society!!

Agree with socci, we don't act like that because we're better than that. We decide collectively, if sometimes imperfectly, how to deal with perpetrators of crime because few of us would be in any state to make good decisions if something like this happened to someone close to us.

I know that prisoners do, so I don't see why it's any different for them. They are still allowed stuff sent in, I'm assuming?

Socci - they should NEVER be released. Something as terrible as this deserves LIFE in prison.
I don't consider TV/playstations/top of the list health care (to name a few) as human rights.
Our government pays more for prisoners food than it does for those sick in hospital - that's not right.
