And now Germany - an axeman has attacked people on a train.

True, and they've been persecuted in the past, maybe that's how he came to be in Germany?

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 08:16

It sounds like he's been there for a while, not in the recent wave of refugees. His neighbours are talking about him being in school for some time. To be honest from the video I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of serious mental problem there. He sounded really deranged, and not really in a religious fervour sort of way, just....mad. Hopping from one subject to another etc. Although ISIS killers tend to get [word edited out by MNHQ] on drugs beforehand so who knows.

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 08:17

Don't really expect the German authorities to tell the truth though either way.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2016 08:19

Wtf..did you mean to use such an offensive word there?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2016 08:23

And given that he was recorded saying he was German and denying the connection I think k we should just wait and see what transpires.

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 08:25

No, I've just looked it up and seen the origin. Entirely unaware, apologies.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/07/2016 08:26

OK:)

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 08:42

Now they're saying he was a recent migrant in the last few years. Not great for Merkel.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2016 08:52

At the moment, speculating how long he has been in Germany, whether he was born there are not are just that, pure speculations and not helpful.

WidowWadman · 23/07/2016 08:58

To have German nationality he would have been there for at least 8 years. It's pretty irrelevant though. Whilst being a dual national people shouldn't keep jumping on islamism as main reason for someone running amok.

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 09:05

Well go and censor the TV stations and press outlets reporting it. Nobody knows why he did it yet, but Islamism has to be pretty high on the list of likely candidates.

Interesting nobody was complaining last night about speculation when they thought he was right wing though. I suspect it's not speculation that bothers people but the wrong sort of speculation which doesn't suit their agenda.

WidowWadman · 23/07/2016 09:08

Actually, according to the police reports islamism is pretty low on the list and there are no known links to extremists of any kind, going by what is known about the perpetrator so far

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2016 09:09

I wasn't on the thread last night :)

The papers and news sites I've read are reporting responsibly and not speculating - I haven't read ones that are.

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 09:13

Well, let's wait and see after the press conference at lunch shall we?

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 09:15

He's been named as Ali Sonboly. The Spiegel article is a bit behind.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 23/07/2016 09:16

I don't think being a Muslim (if he is), nor an immigrant (if he is) prevents 'flipping' and an American style 'I'm angry so I'm gonna shoot a load of people' type shooting.

WidowWadman · 23/07/2016 09:21

What's your source for that name Bill Sykes? The Spiegel article is hot off the press, and Spiegel is generally a trustworthy publication. Google didn't find the name you claimed in any news story.

You seem to be desperate to link it to islamism. Why?

WidowWadman · 23/07/2016 09:25

Ah, found it. British papers picking up name from Facebook. That of course must be more accurate than police naming him as David S.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2016 09:46

I think it's very sensible to wait until the news conference :)

What ever the motivation behind it, it was an absolutely hideous thing to do.

recall · 23/07/2016 09:51

How about this Richard Gutjahr bloke ...filmed the Nice incident, and also the Munich one...dodgy ?

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 23/07/2016 09:56

I haven't seen that any footage was filmed by the same person? That said, it's possible - one incident in a popular beach resort and one in a large city - it's not like either were in the back of beyond.

IonaMumsnet · 23/07/2016 10:11

Morning folks. Just popping in to let you know we've edited out a disablist term earlier in the thread. We can see BillSykesDog didn't meant to offend and wasn't aware of the meaning but we thought it was best gone nonetheless.

recall · 23/07/2016 10:11

Even if he didn't film the footage outside McDonalds - it is a massive coincidence that he was there taking pictures and reporting it. and also happens to be married to an Israeli politician who was a Mossad agent...something dodgy there surely ?

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 23/07/2016 10:13

Okay, so he's not even a random bloke, he's a journalist. So that potentially answers the 'why was he filming mcds rather than running away' question. And as I said, big European holiday destination and big city.

Does that make it a false flag? Lol.
