why aren't MN names being shown anymore?

I have German relatives, "alle weg da" does NOT sound similar to "allah akbar"

bonnie1981 · 22/07/2016 22:12

ah the usernames are back..must be just my pc

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 22/07/2016 22:13

That Reddit thread explains my unasked question of where a suspect list would come from.

GarlicStake · 22/07/2016 22:13

No, Bonnie, it happens a lot with the usernames. They're there, but in the same colour as the background. For some reason the stylesheets aren't always loading.

Have a look at the Reddit thread I linked re what's happening in Munich.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 22/07/2016 22:15

Bonnie, it does when you have confirmation bias.

Cantgetmyoldnameback · 22/07/2016 22:15

Bonnie

Well my German DH says it does sound similar!

I guess people expect to hear particular things when they are in a terrorist attack.

But who knows what is going on? There's very little confirmed information right now.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 22/07/2016 22:16

Yes it does, and what does having relatives got to do with it?

allthemadmen · 22/07/2016 22:18

Beyond where does it come from

bungleknows · 22/07/2016 22:19

On the video posted on the thread they definitely said alle weg da. Also if you look on Twitter the videos are still up and one of the shooters sounds native German and is white.

Totally understandable in the current climate that anyone would assume it was ISIS

GarlicStake · 22/07/2016 22:19

what does having relatives got to do with it? - I kind of wondered. Reminds me of a phase MN went through, when posters were delivering medical opinions based on their DHs being doctors Wink

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 22/07/2016 22:21

Osmosis.

mistery · 22/07/2016 22:22

"Also if you look on Twitter the videos are still up and one of the shooters sounds native German and is white."

The suggestion was that he is German-born of Turkish ancestry.

bonnie1981 · 22/07/2016 22:22

because they can translate what is being said? [hmmm]

and some of them live in Munich? (but are safe)

its not a f*cking competition as to who hears what, I simply repeated what they heard.

People are dead, and people on here are arguing over who heard right FFS

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 22/07/2016 22:24

It's implied that part of the shouting is re failed schooling. Results are not long out, and if that weirdo in school seemed to have nazi sympathies, there's a whole school year that potentially knows about it when they flip.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 22/07/2016 22:28

If they are translating then they can't be of help with what's been said.
You need an interpreter for that.

Some of us can manage that without any help, thank you very much.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 22/07/2016 22:29

of any help.

oh and I forgot an Hmm

shins · 22/07/2016 22:31

No point-scoring about the words, we're all just trying to figure it out. I speak German so was able to pick up what the police said, but if I didn't, I could easily have thought it was something else, especially considering the depressing similarities between recent attacks.

The second video in which the police yell "Alle weg da!" was taken in a completely different location (right in the city centre on Kaufinger Strasse, one of the main shopping streets) to where the McDonalds shooting happened (opposite a mall about a 20 minute drive from the city centre). So while we don't know if the Lauretta woman is a reliable witness, the second video definitely has nothing to do with whatever she may have heard.

BeyondBeyondBeyondBeyondBeyond · 22/07/2016 23:16

It seems the ninth victim is believed to be the shooter, and that it was only ever the one, neither Islamist nor far right. Takes a while to find that out though, and from my unspecialised viewpoint I think lockdown was utterly the right thing to do. I expect to see a lot of people in the morning complaining about it though, as they always tend to do with hindsight!

News conference at 1am

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 01:31

Police confirmed a German Iranian.

sportinguista · 23/07/2016 05:27

Completely baffling. The police are saying that his motive was unclear. Now he has killed himself I expect some things will never be known. It appears he was a dual national so I'm guessing mixed parentage. He does appear to have acted alone and they don't appear to be looking for anyone else. But the fact remains that 9 people including him are now dead, others injured and the whole of one German city and indeed the country terrified about what could happen next. This is beginning to feel like the new reality, I'm afraid.

shins · 23/07/2016 06:49

Also, Iranians are Shias and enemies of ISIS so no straightforward motive there either.

BillSykesDog · 23/07/2016 06:54

There are Iranian Sunnis.
