Labour and anti-semitism

Apologies for DF links but ignoring the lowbrow style 'journalism' for a minute, I am perturbed about these reports.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3531852/Labour-councillor-20-suspended-claims-called-Hitler-greatest-man-history-latest-anti-Semitic-scandal-hit-Corbyn-s-party.html#comments

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3532042/Ignorant-Godless-Hateful-Corbyn-s-contempt-Jews-disgrace-withering-attack-Labour-leader-donor-backed-party-400-000-2015-Election.html

I like Corbyn a little bit but judge his cavalier attitude to anti-semitism harshly.

Has anti-semitism become cool among labour supporters or something? What is being done about the anti-semitism coming from some labour politicians and how to deal with the Islamist flavour of anti-semitism as displayed by Labour councillor Aysegul Gurbuz (and others) for examples who posted statements such as this on twitter :

"Ed Miliband is Jewish. He will never become prime minister of Britain."
"Adolf Hitler was praised as the ‘greatest man in history".

Shock Sad

I see Gurbez has resigned. Presumably that's not the end of the matter? Does anyone know if it's been handed to the police?

Helmetbymidnight · 11/04/2016 12:08

Florian, I must say your contributions have been brilliant.

To para-phrase:

  1. Anti-semitic attack? - ooh probably they thought he was muslim.
  2. Anti-semitic attack? - ooh, there was a fella who made one up. I bet they all do!
  3. Anti-semitic attack? - ooh it probably was the Jews! They did that right.

You're awesome. Legend.

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:08

Helmet, if you are going to refer to a swathe of attacks don't use examples of people faking it that's all
It delegitimises real events
And I think the assumption that Labour endorses or supports this woman's crazy tweets is offensive and disingenuous, as is the implication that Labour is intrinsically anti Semetic with its Jewish leader!!

LeLaluifleur · 11/04/2016 12:09

"Does anyone know if it's been handed to the police?"

Good question.

Wow. Did I say that?

So you deny that there is a problem of anti-semitism in the extremes of the Muslim community? Even though many members of the Muslim community are saying that!

This denial is a problem for everyone, and one Labour ARE going to have to face.

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:15

Sorry Jewish Ex Leader of the Party!!

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:16

There is massive problems with hate crime overall and it does need to be tackled
As a whole IMO

LeLaluifleur · 11/04/2016 12:16

not really relevant but how I wish D. Miliband would become labour leader.

OP posts:
florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:17

Please answer to what I actually say, not what you are imagining in your head
It makes for a far more "real" discussion than you deciding what you imagine I'm saying

Helmetbymidnight · 11/04/2016 12:18

Florian, digression, I know, but do you admit that there in the extremes of the Muslim Community in Europe there is misogyny?

Will you deny that too?

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:18

I agree about D Miliband , he would be great

LeLaluifleur · 11/04/2016 12:19

yes he really wood. Sad

OP posts:
LeLaluifleur · 11/04/2016 12:19

oh my, would rather

OP posts:
florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:20

Helmet I'm not here to say what you are directing me to say, sorry
I am against all forms of extremism , religious and political
That's all that needs to be said really

LeLaluifleur · 11/04/2016 12:23

"I know, but do you admit that there in the extremes of the Muslim Community in Europe there is misogyny? "

Of course there is!

VeryPunny · 11/04/2016 12:26

Wasn't Gurbuz (SP?) involved with the Bedford Police and Crime Commissioner somehow (politically)? Which makes her views even more worrying.

By my earlier comments, it's fairly common here in a student town to see "Free Palestine" posters, boycotts of Israeli produce etc. Not a dicky bird about any Islamic country.

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:32

Maybe you could start a thread about Muslims Helmet?
You can ask your questions about your issues with ""The Denial of the "Muslim problem with Misogyny" in a honest discussion stating your views?
Just a thought

prh47bridge · 11/04/2016 12:40

Why do you think Labour might not be 100% robust in their dealings with anti-semitism within their ranks?

I think there are elements of all three reasons you suggest.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/04/2016 12:43

Yeah maybe.

Is this your response to all types of racism or just anti-semitism?

  1. Racist attack? - ooh probably they thought he was someone else!
  2. Racist attack? - ooh, there was a nutter who made one up. I bet they all do!
  3. Racist attack? - ooh it probably was their own people! They do that right?

I can't quite believe what you wrote. And the fact that you have never heard (or are pretending not to have heard) of attacks on Jews in Europe - just Wow! Keep on posting, even though I am truly mortified for you.

LeLaluifleur · 11/04/2016 12:43

somebody upthread said claims Labour does not deal with anti-semitism among members appropriately are negative propaganda and that current reports on tho topic serve to undermine Labour. I am interested in this, what sort of evidence is there for this claim, if any?

OP posts:
florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:46

I think that is the US Media technique
Frame a statement as a question and then answer it yourself in multiple ways which all reinforce the supposed "question"
Therefore removing yourself from "actually claiming it to be definitively true"
"Are all Jews Zionists"
"Are the Majority of Muslims Terrorists"
Very Fox News

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:48

Helmet you are continusly misrepresenting my statements and are being quite hostile, can you discuss what I am ACTUALLY saying?

Mistigri · 11/04/2016 12:49

it's fairly common here in a student town to see "Free Palestine" posters, boycotts of Israeli produce etc. Not a dicky bird about any Islamic country.

This is because there is a long list of predominantly Islamic countries that are already under sanctions. This includes Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, and Egypt.

It would be a bit odd to agitate for boycotts and sanctions against countries with whom we do little trade and are already on the EU sanctions list.

florianblossom · 11/04/2016 12:53

Helmet I have reported you for misrepresenting my statements and being extremely hostile and inflammatory on a sensitive subject
I have not said the things you are claiming me to have said, it's just untrue and very aggressive IMO
