Lumela "I grew up in the shadow of immense trauma (just one example: my father's aunt and uncle were victims of a massacre). It affected how I see the world."

My parents' respective families were annihilated, so I grew up understanding that anyone's life can change in a matter of hours. One moment the family is getting on with life, the next men come to your home, take all food, farm animals, shoot your pet dog, dig up vegetables and go.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 13/01/2016 11:05

Sorry that was to Lumela.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:07

Yeah its David Davies the Monmouth MP who seems to have an interest in this topic

Constancegardner · 13/01/2016 11:09

I've emailed David Davies, not a constituent of his, brought up the issue of voting to stay in or leave European Union. I would vote out if this is the future, it certainly looks like the present at any rate.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:10

If anyone's watching pmqt let us know if they mention cologne
I wonder how we can find out if there are any other MPs, apart from the Monmouth guy, cwho have an interest in this issue...

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 11:11

Many Women would vote out, if these filthy Men, practicing group sexual assaults are free to roam across Europe.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:11

Good point Instance gardener
This totally affects the Europe vote,

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 11:13

I am out re Europe - made decision years before what happened in Cologne. I think the membership fee is far too high for few rewards.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 11:14

Can you take an early lunch? It's on bbc parliament for half an hour at noon.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:15

So maybe we should be contacting MPs who have an interest in...
Britain leaving/staying in Europe
Women's rights
Immigration issues
Violence against women
Freedom of speach

TheNewStatesman · 13/01/2016 11:15

The BBC Women's Hour thing.

16.20 minutes in, one of the commenter is starting in with the weasel words suggesting that the assaults may be part of a conspiracy by the far right.

34z67y90 · 13/01/2016 11:15

Acknowledgement of email sent to Mr Davies. Will send it to my MP too.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:17

Yes I've got an acknowledgement from Mr Davies,
We should all email him

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:19

You used to be able to comment on women's equality party facebk page, but this week they've changed it so you can read anything or comment 😕

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 11:22

WEP deleted some posts to page about this issue, earlier in the week. They are only for UMC or UC Women.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:23

Are there any people in public eye, not just MP's, celebrities? Who have an interest in this area? Some of them have thousands of twitter followers, we need to get people talking about it, keep it in the News, keep it on social media etc

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 11:24

Please look at this report and transcript of the trial of the woman who knifed MP Timms. You can see that there is no regard from her or her supporters for the court process. What I see expressed here is the total disregard for courteous behaviour in a courtroom and the notion of Right and Wrong.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 11:25

WEP also support Women's prisons welcome convicted rapists on Women with their with Penis, so probably avoiding all that too.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 11:30

Sorry my last post wasn't clear. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3390705/Transgender-rapist-sent-male-prison-GUILTY-raping-teenage-girl-man.html WEP support Davina.

iPost · 13/01/2016 11:33

Sonya

I think we are legion. Those who are ignored when they protest, body and soul, at any minority, more at risk group being hurled under the bus in the defence of the indefensible.

Which is an issue.

Because while strong arm silencing and ignoring techniques have been very effective in creating wide spread self censorship in times of relative calm... the same techniques tends to act like a tanker of petrol on sparks when tensions run high.

If moderate people (left, right, centre politically) feel censored in the face of an extreme act of sexual violence suffered by hundreds of women and no plan to stop hundreds, mperhaps thousands more joining the ranks of victims...their temperature will increased. If their temp. increases that will green light a temp. increase at the end of the spectrum that tends to debate with fists and boots.

Far from calming things down, those who wish to cover up, make great leaps of mitigation, deflect and deny are acting as tinder being hurled at sparks in the vicinity of a ruddy great keg of black powder. In that respect they are no different from the sections of the media who would employ deliberately inflaming reporting.

And I am not entirely convinced they don't know that. Some will honestly believe they are being helpful and moral. They are the generation who genuinely (but erroneously) believe no platforming and inducing self censorship changes hearts and minds ... with no silent, simmering resentment and outrage left in their wake.

But others, they know. They know their choice of defence style and cover up will inflame and increase the possibility of their opposite extreme blowing up and spilling over into violence on the streets. Without violence on the streets from the right, where is their excuse to go and ruck ?

Meanwhile, the rest of us get to await being collateral damage while two extreme tribes psych each other and themselves up to go to war. Again.

There is a saftey valve on the current pressure cooker. It is the release of moderate voice, who are the majority, having an honest look at events and taking action to reduce the possibility of contagion. Becuase the
last thing we need is for European lads to get the idea that mass sexual assault is now the new normal.

At the moment the extreme right are turning up the gas ring under the pressure cooker and the halo polishers are smirking while they hold down the safety valve. They are working in tandem.

They want this to go pop with the biggest bang possible. Just like they always have. Just like they always will.

So it doesn't really matter how much genuine emotion you, I or anybody else brings to the table. The people determined to get their explosion of violence on the streets of Europe and create political instability that they can exploit....will steadfastly ignore anything we say.

34z67y90 · 13/01/2016 11:35

MEP emailed too..

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 13/01/2016 11:38

Thank you iPost. Food for thought.

DespicableBee · 13/01/2016 11:43

smartraveller.gov.au/countries/germany

Australian government travel advice to Germany
They mention the cologne attacks

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 13/01/2016 11:45

As authorities in all of those cities will not do the right thing, my current fantasy is that some wealthy person (doesnt have to be European) hires a hotshot lawyer and files against the police depts of all of those cities, incl any talking head who has been quoted mnimising. The prosecutions would be Jointly and severally.
