Let's group tomorrow. Tired.

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 22:05

On NYE, women across the EU were sexually assaulted by gangs of men.

We ask the government to debate this issue and put in place measures to prevent similar attacks from happening in the UK.

Women's rights must be upheld even where they may conflict with religious or cultural traditions

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 22:05

ditto

whataboutbob · 14/01/2016 22:06

Just coming back onto this thread which i contributed to last week. Well done with the evident progress in the debate. Like many others i am heartened by the fact that it has not been silenced by the usual accusations of racism. Something I have known for a long time, having grown up in a muslim country, is now OK to talk about and I can't say how relieved, vindicated and even just a little bit hopeful that makes me feel.

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 22:07

Right now, i am so tired and have my mind on too many things i might just petition for free holidays for all or some such nonsense...

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 22:10

From the article bee posted

"Taharrush (which means sexual harassment) is also used to terrorize women off the street and out of the public sphere. It is a symptom of a more general misogynous ideology, which includes the idea of “punishing” women for dressing “improperly” in public or even just for appearing in public. This ideology needs to be dismantled."

This is what I do not want to happen anywhere in the UK ever. I do not want women to loose their liberties to appease the religious sensitivities of men.

fourmummy · 14/01/2016 22:12

what about that's a lovely post. Can you imagine if this became a worldwide campaign? Dare we even dream about that?

polentapies · 14/01/2016 22:13

OK working with above, this is 299 characters

Women must be free to travel, work and live, without intimidation or sexual violence.
We ask the government to debate and put in place measures to promote and uphold women's rights regardless of religious or cultural traditions.

Not sure of the regardless, but it's very tight

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 22:15

The laws are just not enough adherence to current laws protecting the rights of women when they clash with other groups.

polentapies · 14/01/2016 22:15

Sorry, I was down for a couple of moments and there are new ideas. Gah, ok more feedback please

unlucky83 · 14/01/2016 22:22

I'm trying to keep up but real life keeps getting in the way ...
I think this is great

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 14/01/2016 22:22

"Even where they conflict with" sounds more powerful than "regardless of" but I guess it's down to the word count.

I think that's the crux of it. That women's rights are something that we should be proud of and shouldn't be sacrificed

Should we use Cologne 2016 in it? Was going to out it in Mumsnet campaigns, pending approval. MNHQ - can we put it on that board?

Still need best articles which sum up the whole topic. 2 or 3
