Word to convey both? fear, possibility, being sexually assaulted or raped?

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 21:45

It's not just sexual assaults though it opression, spitting etc by groups of Men who think it's acceptable and nobody will say anything for fear of being called racist.

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 21:50

I must apologise in advance people, real life has caught up with me and I am pretty tired, so my thinking may not be the best at this point in time.

Here are my ramblings and please ignore if this holds the process up...

  • Women's rights must be promoted and upheld even where they may conflict with of religious or cultural traditions
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 14/01/2016 21:51

If the objective is specifically to prevent such large scale sexual attacks in the UK, rather than a more general one of holding onto our current rights and freedoms, maybe we need to insert something like this between sentence 1 and 2, so that the original sentence 2 becomes a general final comment.

'We urge the government to debate this issue and put in place measures to ensure that the risk of similar attacks in the UK is minimised.'

The onus is then on the government to identify the appropriate measures.

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 21:51

sorry thats not very well put
I will give this some thought now and post again soon

polentapies · 14/01/2016 21:52

How about either:

All women living in liberal democracies must be free to travel, work and live, without encountering/experiencing/suffering? sexual violence

Bryt · 14/01/2016 21:52

Question Time is on tonight. Let's see if someone has been allowed to ask this question.

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 21:52

That was in response to my pp.

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 21:52

Yes

polentapies · 14/01/2016 21:53

or abuse?

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 14/01/2016 21:54

"Women's rights must be promoted and upheld even where they may conflict with of religious or cultural traditions"

That's good.

polentapies · 14/01/2016 21:55

I like that out

Bryt · 14/01/2016 21:56

I like this: 'We urge the government to debate this issue and put in place measures to ensure that the risk of similar attacks in the UK is minimised.'

I would like there to be a debate and to know that measures are being considered by our government to prevent or deal with such events happening in the UK.

polentapies · 14/01/2016 21:57

On NYE, women across the EU were sexually assaulted by gangs of men.
We urge the government to debate this issue and put in place measures to ensure that the risk of similar attacks in the UK is minimised.'

318 characters - what to lose? (My head is sprung(

Pinkchampchoccies · 14/01/2016 21:57

I am lost with how many characters for which part part here is what I think..

All women living in liberal democracies must be free to travel, work and live, without experiencing intimidation or sexual violence.

We urge the government to debate this issue and put in place measures to promote and uphold women's rights even where they may conflict with religious or cultural traditions.

kesstrel · 14/01/2016 21:59

Suggest dropping the "of" before "religious" in the next to last line.

fourmummy · 14/01/2016 22:00

kesstrel · 14/01/2016 22:00

Oh, you've done it, Pink!

fourmummy · 14/01/2016 22:02

Pink that's really good but I still think ask instead of urge (too reticent)

Pangurban1 · 14/01/2016 22:02

sexually discriminatory religious or cultural traditions

Know you're trying to tighten up, so may be too much.
