Just in case people want to continue discussing this.

OP posts:
Constancegardner · 09/01/2016 17:38

Don't know who the left represent, according to the radio this morning, Labour cabinet mostly from Islington, none from areAs such as the North East.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 17:40

I was wondering why it's not in Discussion of the Day as well Hmm

InionEile · 09/01/2016 17:42

It is certainly entertaining to watch educated women of the left-wing media tying themselves in knots to grapple with this clash between their right-on values and their feminism. That article by Deborah Orr is a particularly impressive example.

So depressing that women with a voice are too afraid of offending men of colour to use it. Angry

MamaMary · 09/01/2016 17:43

Dogstrummer that's appalling. A Labour party meeting with segregated seating...Where was it?

LumelaMme · 09/01/2016 17:44

Free speech is a concept to some people.

By the way, the old thread is still in 'In the news on Mumsnet Talk'. Can we get hold HQ to ask for the link to take anyone to this thread (or, by the time it happens, to the next one?)

unlucky83 · 09/01/2016 17:44

dog that picture irritated me at the time. Not just the segregation but there are fewer seats for women and they seem to shoved to the side -the main table seems to be in front of the men. I see that and I feel like going and sitting right in the middle of all the men. The fact that none of the women present did I find even more worrying..
(but then as an older teen I went to a club (north west working men's type of club) where women weren't allowed 'on the snooker tables' - I think a friend will still have the photo of me lying on one of the tables..prior to me playing snooker on one Grin)

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 17:45

I've asked in Site Stuff why it's not in the Duscussion of the Day list.

carlajean · 09/01/2016 17:46

I've just emailed my MP - Thangham Debonnaire in Bristol West. I'll let you know what she comes back with.

polentapies · 09/01/2016 17:47

Ok. Some clear thinking requested.....

I'm still pissed off with the LBC James O'Brien programme and his proposal that the protests re the Cologne attacks are inherently racist, because women are attacked and raped every day. He quoted 12 rapes an hour (I think but ?) Anyway, while being v right on and condemning any attacks on women, he was also saying that to complain about it was hypocritical as it happens every day. Plus, he argued that many people defended the Ched Evans case and that these people are the same people who are decrying immigrants on NYE(according to his twitter search 'research'), but IMO anyone who defended Ched Evans is a misogynist bastard anyway, regardless of gender.

Anyway, I think this argument is flawed. Are women not allowed to complain about women being assaulted by large groups of brown men because white men attack us every day, albeit in private?

2016IsANewYearforMe · 09/01/2016 17:47

It doesn't even "trend."

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 17:48

My MP is a useless Labour parasite, so I don't think it'll do any good emailing her. My son wrote to her once and she didn't even bother replying.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 09/01/2016 17:50

Wow to James O'Brien. Nasty slur.

I find it quite easy to condemn Evans et al.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 17:51

Not racist to complain.

White rapists = scum sucking bottom feeders
Brown rapists = scum sucking bottom feeders

Spot the difference.

There isn't one Hmm

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 09/01/2016 17:51

That's the party line on the left then I guess.

onthephone100 · 09/01/2016 17:52

This is an interesting article by Der Spiegel, translated into English. Has some interesting eyewitness accounts.

MamaMary · 09/01/2016 17:53

Why isn't this trending on Mumsnet? It's been one of the most active threads for the past few days.

And the old thread on this is listed at the bottom of 5 stories under 'In the news': it should be the top one, going on activity.

Constancegardner · 09/01/2016 17:53

Polenta, so we're not supposed to complain because sexual assault is a commonplace? Eh? Anyway, this was unusual given that is seems to have been co ordinated and en masse, and part of a campaign? I don't know.

Idiotic.

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 17:53

Without meaning to sound err, racist, some people in the media are really showing their true colours eh? Hmm

2016IsANewYearforMe · 09/01/2016 17:54

Wow, never heard of James o'Brien or LBC before. Don't think I have been missing much!

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 17:55

Mama I've asked in Site Stuff section. Come over the complain - anybody who wants to Smile

2016IsANewYearforMe · 09/01/2016 17:56

An organised sex attack against over a hundred women by a thousand men during a traditional celebration in public is hardly "common place." What goes on in Mr O'Brien's world?

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 09/01/2016 18:01

James Obrien also presents Newsnight sometimes these days.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 09/01/2016 18:02

So that's the only place I had come across him.

hefzi · 09/01/2016 18:03

hidden I wonder if yours is the same as mine!

Lumela thanks so much for that - super-fast and super-impressive Grin

There was a thread about that segregated Labour meeting, but the Corbyn/SWP posters insisted that it wasn't segregated but that men and women had chosen separatetly, and that the women probably appreciated the chance to be able to sit away from their husbands Hmm

hiddenhome2 · 09/01/2016 18:04

He presents Newsnight? I thought he was a loudmouth numpty. Why have they got him presenting that? Confused

(I don't watch tv)
