New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

I also agree somewheresafe it's been the most educational thread I've read ever on mumsnet and has got me thinking all the time. It would definitely be hideous to get it shut down. I'm going to stop rising to the bait.

www.theguardian.com/world/live/2014/jul/30/gaza-another-un-school-hit-in-further-night-of-fierce-bombardment

The guardian updates are very informative, and most of the comments today were too.
As well as reporting, there's loads of excellent links.

ReigningQueen · 30/07/2014 20:29

It was a cathartic exchange but I need some normality back. There's only so much bs I can tolerate.

AishaHosseini · 30/07/2014 20:29

justasecond. You seem to know so much about my faith, join Islam and you will understand I pray to Allah for strength and courage and I pray for the moral guidance of the holy prophet PBUH so I can be at peace with myself in ANY situation that gets difficult for me emotionally.
You know nothing about me.
When my family and I first arrived in the UK in the 90's we integrated mainly with the community from Pakistan who say mOslem when they speak in english, this is something I have kept with me.
I will no longer justify myself as I owe you nothing and you do NOT know me.

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 20:30

If it is shut down, and there seems to be a concerted targeted amateur effort to force closure, can someone please restart thread 3. It would be a shame to stop discussing pertinent issues.

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 20:33

The UN and unwra have also condemned israels actions stating that bombing children asleep with their mothers in a UN designated safe place is an absolute abomination and violation of international law.

Sadly it seems international law applies to, and protects all except palestinians.

AishaHosseini · 30/07/2014 20:33

Wasabimonster, we pronounce it Allahuackber it's more of an E than an A sound, the same with Hamas, we pronounce it Hamess.

Springheeled · 30/07/2014 20:34

I also like the guardian updates, though twitter is brill for updates- I had never really seen the point in twitter before.

Backinthering · 30/07/2014 20:36

www.independent.co.uk/news/people/israelgaza-conflict-sarah-palin-uses-joan-rivers-as-source-of-foreign-policy-wisdom-in-video-urging-support-for-israel-9637007.html

Sarah Palin wades in. Another moral and intellectual colossus supporting Israel's actions.

Springheeled · 30/07/2014 20:37

Something that has worried me, and maybe I'm being naive, is the apparent impotence of the UN. Do they have any powers or ability to intervene? Why can't they/ aren't they?

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 20:38

Al jazeera reported that baby shaima born by c section would have survived if Israel had not bombed the electricity supply. This resulted in her incubator being switched off. She died. The senselessness of it all. The utter inhumanity.

She represented hope for us all. Is there any hope left?

JanineStHubbins · 30/07/2014 20:39

The US veto, Springheeled. No resolution would get past the Security Council because of that. Mind you, the European members of the UN have been pretty useless as well in the past few weeks.

AndHarry · 30/07/2014 20:39

Right... I've reported the personal attacks and troll hunting posts. I've also reported the thread again and asked MNHQ to lock it while they investigate. Personally I'm disengaging until MNHQ can tell us what's going on. Judging from previous reports that might not be until the morning, sorry.

If the thread does get deleted I'll open a new one as soon as I can. Hopefully not though, it would be a real shame to lose the links, information & opinions shared here.

With the power off, many more will die from injuries and infection too. It is ethnic cleansing.

lk14 · 30/07/2014 20:41

Yes I do accept that about Iran - there was a huge backlash against the government here - what I do not understand is why people can't see both sides of this story - there are obviously innocent people in Gaza who are caught up in this - but surely you must understand that Israel has to defend itself, the three boys were the straw that broke the camels back, Israel suffered rockets coming over incessantly without retaliating, why can't you people see what Hamas are really doing? Why are you so blinkered????

Backinthering · 30/07/2014 20:41

Springheeled some of the twitter stuff is almost unbearably sad and horrible. The real face of the human suffering behind the posturing and rhetoric. Heartbreaking.

Springheeled · 30/07/2014 20:42

So seriously, if one country votes no then nothing can be passed???

Backinthering · 30/07/2014 20:42

somewheresafe I saw that as well today. Poor little girl.
All the dialysis patients will die as well now.

Springheeled · 30/07/2014 20:44

Yes backinthering- it's overwhelming at times. I do get a bit of a laugh at people's responses to IDF official sometimes, though a very hollow laugh- it's good to see their nonsense challenged

JanineStHubbins · 30/07/2014 20:45

Only permanent members of the Security Council have a veto - US, UK, China, Russia and France

somewheresafe · 30/07/2014 20:48

Andharry thank you for your efforts. Wise decision to ask for thread to be locked. I won't post further until I know what's happening.

If Hamas is just a welfare organisation, why does its Charter call for the destruction of Israel?
