New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

yes, france was a bad example especially as they ended up occupied themselves - then again egypt has reason to fear being invaded again i suppose.

what i mean is the aggressor cannot palm off blame onto others for their own acts of aggression.

donnie · 31/07/2014 08:43

Yup, reckon it's time for thread number 4...

BTW PigletJohn As Dame SP had stolen people's homes and was a resident of Israel I did see her as a kind of microcosm of the Israeli govt's policy on Palestinian homes/land theft.

Sadly for us she is now back in the UK although according to wiki she is 'based' in Israel, no doubt because homes are so damn easy to steal.

somewheresafe · 31/07/2014 08:44

So, israel has been pressuring eu MP's to curb anti war protests (link provided by me upthread), Jewish groups criticise the tower hamlets mayor for raising the palestinian flag (they might need to also pay attention up north where the flag is flying outside various town halls), new deniers and apologists on this thread by the dozen.

I wonder why israel is running scared? Is that why it has bombed electricity plants and mobile and tv networks? It wants a complete blackout. But dear israel, the world already despises you and what you represent. You may silence the palestinians, the news channels, the organisations you control worldwide, the countries you pressure, but you can't silence every voice.

halfdrunkcoffee · 31/07/2014 08:45

That's why I don't agree with what Israel are doing. I understand they want to defend themselves but I think the best way of defending themselves would be to provide justice for the Palestinians. There just be a repeat of this every few years unless both sides can start talking and work out a political solution that meets the needs of everyone.

timbucktoo · 31/07/2014 08:47

The FB propaganda has really stepped up today, has anyone else noticed this?

somewheresafe · 31/07/2014 08:50

Yes, as has the attack on John Prescott. All annual leave has obviously been cancelled at mossad.

An interview with the wonderful Henry siegeman. It's very poignant to read. He states tthat one of the most shocking things to realise is not that there is evil in the world, but that ordinary cultured good people allow it to happen and support it.

It is worth a read as it captures the essence of this genocide. This is about land and colonialism and the worst possible argument to level at an oppressed and dehumanised nation: that they brought it on themselves and that the palestinians are forcing israel to kill them.

Springheeled · 31/07/2014 09:00

I can't make it to the vigil cat but I'm in London early next week and hope something will be happening that I can pop in to.
The thing I saw on fbook suggested 1-2 pm outside parliament on Saturday.
I'm seriously missing Tony Benn!

timbucktoo · 31/07/2014 09:19

Israel mass murdering civilians while ambulances and Press are clearly present

PeachyParisian · 31/07/2014 09:37

I love the idea of everyone flying Palestinian flags in solidarity. I live in the jewish quarter of paris and there have been quite a few pro-israel rallies which have turned violent in the last few weeks. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to put a flag by my window but i am boycotting israeli produce.

AndHarry please make a new thread, i am learning so much.

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 09:46

gosh. that is hard viewing.

imagine getting you and your kids out of your house and far enough away to avoid that carnage with 60seconds warning. then bear in mind once you and your kids are on the street, and even if you get far enough away to not be killed by the incoming missile - then what? you could be stood right next to the next target.

do you stop and pray over the dead and try and help move the injured or run, when you have no idea where is safe to run to anyway and even UN schools are being hit.

how anyone can defend this stuff or believe this is any kind of way to create peace or move forward is beyond me.

will any of those young men feel more inclined towards peace with israel after seeing their friends killed, after dragging bodies through the streets, after seeing old women screaming in grief? and when it's over and there is no infrastructure left what will they have? and therefore what will they have to lose?

emma2277 · 31/07/2014 10:07

harrowing video timbuktoo...the chilling reality without the add on nonsense explanations comments and propaganda..wanton destruction of powerless people

:(

sherazade · 31/07/2014 10:37

860,000 reservists called up by ISRAEL to wage this massacre without laws, boundaries or accountability. Unlimited funding and ammunition from the world's super powers. Censored, biased media continues to create the biggest spin in history. The UN gives Israel the green flag to go ahead and 'defend itself'. And they're getting nowhere.

from the river to the sea PALESTINE will be free

Thanks for that link crescent.

In our millions
In our billions
We are all palestinian.

Feeling the need to keep internally chanting this today. Feeling helpless.

funambulist · 31/07/2014 10:51

Me to somewheresafe. This poem, by John Donne, keeps going round my head.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

ReigningQueen · 31/07/2014 11:10

I still can't get over the cheering of 'there's no school in gaza, there are no kids left' by Israelis. Something is seriously wrong if you gloat over the slaughter of children.
How fucked up

Springheeled · 31/07/2014 11:11

Have always loved the Donne poem.

I also like, from GCSE chestnut An Inspector Calls 'we don't live alone. We are members of one body.'

We are all Palestinians. If the world sits back on this, it will sit back for all of us and all our children.

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 11:21

can you imagine a world in which we weren't ruled by psychopaths?

DieselSpillages · 31/07/2014 11:22
TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 11:34

get this through your 'thick head'???? that counts as interviewing in the US now? jesus. dear lord!

DieselSpillages · 31/07/2014 11:42

I liked Russel's ridiculous image of Hamas walking round with children strapped to wooden boards in order to protect themselves..... The bullying in this interview is indicative of the Israel's bullying stance in general.
